"The cottage owners are very welcoming and helpful & Catherine sorted us a local Turkey and vegetables for our Christmas stay. The cottage is listed as having central heating but there is only one radiator upstairs outside bed 2 and controlled by next door, the listings also state that the kitchen has an Aga cooker but it is in the lounge at the bottom of the stairs, cooking is very difficult when the work surfaces, water, fridge and everything else is in the kitchen 20 feet away, also the Aga has been preset at a low temperature and the thermostat disabled so you cannot achieve the correct cooking temperature of 230 in the top oven, this sets the correct temperatures for the hot plates and simmering oven, the top oven was at 150 and cooking anything took a long time. The cottage desperately needs a cooker in the kitchen. The stairs are extremely steep and the warning at the top recommends you come down backwards, upstairs the carpets are thread bare and open gripper bars are ready to rip into your feet in the night (be warned) the beds are comfortable but upstairs is very cold, the bathroom is large but the shower pressure is really poor, the taps are loose and the hot water is extremely hot, we had a bit of fun in bed with our two year old daughter counting cobwebs on the ceiling (torch required). The farm supplies wood for the log burner at a cost but unfortunately you dont get seasoned dry wood its wet fence posts that struggle to burn and the cottage is seperated from the main house with adjoining doors so conversation is clearly heard. We cut our stay short and went home a day early."

"Great holiday cottage and location. The beach is 10 min walk away and is pebbles at the top, then sand after 20+ meters. We walked for a good hour and only saw 4 other people during that time. We tried the pub (1 min walk) a couple of nights and had a good meal, would eat there again. All roads were quiet and it was easy to get around the Lakes. Highly recommend a visit to Eskdale and Wast Water - much quieter than the usual tourist hot spots further away.Comfort and equipmentThe mattress was truly dreadful; probably the worst I've slept on during my 49 years of life. It was so bad, we had to come home a night early so we could get some sleep. If the mattress were replaced, I'd definitely score a "9".Local amenitiesThere are no shops or any facilities in Silecroft apart from the 1 pub. Nearest shops we could find were in Bootle (shuts at 5.30pm) and Millom.Overall, I'd recommend this cottage if the mattress is replaced."

"Whitecombe is one of the largest cabins at Brockwood Hall and was well suited to our large party of 4 adults and 3 children. We arrived at 4pm and were checked in by the friendly staff very quickly. Within 10 minutes we were in our lodge. The lodge is well equipped and had all e-suites in each room which was an added bonus. On site, there was a sauna, solarium and swimming pool situated in its own building. It was very clean and kept the kids entertained. There was a free cheese and wine evening on Sunday which allowed us to talk with other guests and find out what Brockwood Hall and the surrounding area had to offer. Would we go back to Brockwood Hall? Yes. Its now under new ownership, with big plans to upgrade & expand. All the cabins / lodges are currently being upgraded over the newt year or so. I would recommend to anyone,"

"I would recommend this cottage up to a point BUT it is not as advertised in that the WIFI is very flaky and unreliable and the road between the A-road and the cottage is only for experienced drivers as it is like a corkscrew ride at a fairground. Having said that the cottage is very comfortable but it is right on the main road of the hamlet and not very private unless you keep the blinds down. That didn't faze us as the conservatory was ideal to sit out in and eat, and the garden was nice to look at. Unfortunately it was rather overgrown so we couldn't actually use it. The location is very quiet as it is very rural but quite close to the South Lakes, specifically Coniston Water, Windermere Water with its Railway and to Ravenglass and their miniature railway."

"The cottage is immaculate and the owners show a real attention to detail. Everything you’d need in the kitchen utensil wise is there. Plus cleaning products and also tea, coffee, sugar, salt & pepper. As other reviews have said, there are a number of signs up re dogs, bits of advice etc. Please don’t be put off by these, we have a big dog and it’s basic hygiene not to allow them on the beds so I loved the signs. Local pub is ok, great butcher in Broughton which is the closest village about 10 min drive and Coniston which is a 25 min drive has some nice pubs and restaurants. Great location for exploring, forests, lakes and the sea shore."
