We had a fantastic week at Cuckoo Cottage.
So cosy and well-equipped. Took us a while to spot the very apt hourly clock function and was a lovely surprise when we did (which I wonât spoil by detailing but people may guess!). Looking at the photos and comments I was concerned about the size of the telly but it was fine. Perfectly visible & worked well. Also Iâd seen comments regarding parking but we got parked right next to the cottage every time we returned and when we arrived. Cones seem to have been provided to help with this. The kids loved the games room, enjoying the darts & air hockey table. We loved the Royal Oak which was even closer than we expected and ate there 3 of the 5 nights. Great service & food. A very warm welcome there too. Pateley Bridge had all we needed and more. Nice big playground, chippie, pancake house, a few shops for souvenirs, food etc. petrol station very handy for the last day. We enjoyed trips to Harrogate, Ripon, Coldstone Cut & Brimham Rocks. All worth a visit! Loved the fire. Great bathroom with bath & shower & comfy beds. Very noisy floorboards but as youâd expect in a property of this age. Kitchen was very well equipped. Book exchange & bookmarks were a nice touch. Just a couple of minor niggles: Heating was set very high! I tried to lower it from 24 degrees but it seemed to revert every time a new cycle changed. Didnât want to fiddle with settings other than temperature & just kept on top of it. The oven was very difficult to figure out since it seems to have non conventional settings (eg no âfan ovenâ) and to compound this many of the symbols have rubbed off. We got round it after a fair bit of googling in conjunction with the instructions provided. Ended up searching up an image of the Smeg dial. Would be useful to include this image with the instructions so people can see which position each setting is on the dial or mark them on the oven itself? Also the velux window in the back bedroom leaked during heavy rain (luckily just onto the floor rather than the nearby bed so more an issue for the owners than us). Thank you for having us, we had a very relaxing & enjoyable stay. Wouldnât hesitate to recommend or return.

We had a lovely stay with our daughter and granddaughter The cottage was wet equipped however the furniture was a little tired Parking was an issue.
We couldnât park near the cottage as there was a bmw parked outside the cottage all week. It never moved and ended up parking at the end of the one way street this meant as we took 2 cars one of the cars was rarely used and consequently ended up covered in sticky tree sap The games room was a big hit with our 6 yr old granddaughter We do feel that many cottages say they are dog friendly but when you arrive there are a list of things dogs canât do ie get on the furniture or go upstairs. This criticism is not only aimed at cuckoo cottage Or dog is allowed on our furniture and sleeps on our bed. It makes any holiday more stressful than it needs to be when youâre trying to keep the dog off the sofa and from going upstairs. She doesnât understand why she has to stay downstairs when we go to bed Overall the cottage was lovely. The underfloor heating is a nice touch and the bathroom is modern and spacious. The floors upstairs feel a little less well supported and are very noisy and creaky The cottages back seating area though small is a sun trap but could do with a tidy up On the whole we had a lovely time and would recommend the cottage to our none dog owning friends

Very helpful info from the landlord, going above and beyond.
The listing was good. Provision in the cottage is excellent, with good books, games for children, videos; space for food storage (so often absent in holiday cottages); a good utility space. However, potential guests should be told to bring a plug-in nightlight for the top of the (stone) stairs as the only toilet is downstairs. Maybe also advice to bring a gazunder if there are children (though there was unfortunate evidence that others had done that on the polish of the bedside cabinet in the twin room). The sofas are OK for sitting (and the lounge is not large), but I was lying on the sofa with a heavy cold for three days - one of them to be a three seater would have been nice. However, if you do have to be ill in the house, the view is pleasant and soothing. The hot water system was playing up. The plumber who came (speedily organised by the landlady, thank you) who knows the cottage, made a comment, and I did not know if he was saying that he had suggested that it was time for the boiler to be replaced, or whether he was saying it in general about holiday cottages.

Swift Cottage is hidden away up a narrow lane, but in a way that is good because it is quiet.
It is only a short 200 yard walk to the pub and about the same distance via the short-cut footpath to the large Nisa supermarket and filling station and bread shop. So, a very well located cottage. Pateley's high street is only a 7 minute walk away. Well blessed with excellent tea/coffee shops and other facilities. One of the friendliest little towns we have stayed near. The cottage is well appointed with really good kitchen equipment. It is all there if you are self-catering. Gas hobs. Owner and cleaner were outstanding. Very helpful and friendly. Bottle of wine and cake at arrival time was a very generous welcome present. You do not have to drive, there are a large number of walks from the cottage and Pateley. But, the old railway line to Wath and back along the road is worth doing. Also How Stean gorge, Brimham Rocks and Cornerstones Cut are also well worth checking out, but the weather was against us to do anything more.

Swift Cottage was one of the best locations we had ever stayed at.
It was a delightful cottage with all the facilities and comforts required. It is located within less than a few minutes walk to one of the most beautiful villages in the dales. Pateley Bridge in Nidderdale is a beautiful location with houses built in Yorkshire stone and set on the banks of the bubbling River Nidd as it tumbles through dales and hills of emerald green. Apart from its delightful little shops and pubs it also plays host to the oldest traditional sweet shop in the country. The jewel of Yorkshire, York City, is within an hours reach as is Harrogate and the famous Fountains Abbey. The owner of the cottage was delightful to talk too as was the lovely chocolate cake and wine we arrived too. Despite the the September rain, an occupational hazard of any Autumn break, we still had a wonderful holiday in the dales and found plenty to entertain us on our holiday.
