"Our 15th stay at Brookside Cottage in the beautiful village of Beeley which we love. Lucky to stay here twice this year including a week back in May. We are well used to some of the cottages quirkiness but it’s starting to feel a bit unloved in places. We hope that the few comments we made in the visitor book (see below) this time get addressed as we love staying here.1. There had been a clothes aerial dryer in the garden for years, albeit a bit cronky. This visit it was rusted and broken / snapped and had been moved into the garage rendered useless. No replacement. Beautiful dry sunny weather all week and nowhere to dry our bath towels (only thing we had was a small clothes horse in the cottage which is broken also)2. In May when we stayed, the lights above the gas hob didn’t work. This visit still the same so we took the liberty of purchasing two new bulbs and replacing them ourselves. Job done! Very little expense but guests shouldn’t be expected to correct these things. Attention to detail is certainly lacking in places.3. Upstairs wet room still intermittently leaks water through the kitchen ceiling above the fridge freezer. It’s an on-going problem we’ve experienced before and the ceiling is badly stained. Obviously needs looking at!The new boiler is a massive improvement and is nice and quiet. The Devonshire Arms pub in the village is fantastic and food excellent and would highly recommend. Lots of walks from the door including to Chatsworth House (and back across Beeley Moor). We bring our bikes and enjoy the Monsal Trail, High Peak/Tissington and Manifold Way routes). Chatsworth Farm shop and café also excellent.Despite the comments we still love the cottage and hence keep coming back. Next year will be the first time we won’t be back for our usual week at beginning of May as it’s part booked already that week so we look forward to our 16th visit in 2020."

"We really felt at home in Wood Cottage. It is really comfortable, well equipped and just about everything is thought of. The only 'complaint' we had was it was too warm to use the stove in the living room! I would definitely recommend Wood Cottage to family and friends. Plenty of room for 5 of us to spread out and feel like we had our own space, without having to go to the bedrooms. As others have said, the photos do not show how spacious it is. Our 2 dogs were also easily accommodated and the office made the ideal room for them to sleep in at night. Communication with the owner, Rik, was easy and he was very quick to respond. The canal is a very short walk away, as is Tesco's and the local pub, the Navigation Inn. We had 2 meals at the Navigation and they were delicious. There is lots to do in the surrounding area, with most attractions etc being no more than around half an hour's drive at the most. I can also recommend the Bridgehouse Bakery in Whaley Bridge too - amazing cakes etc. All in all, a great holiday in a wonderful setting. We would love to return for another visit."

"It was advertised as having a freezer and a tumble dryer (neither present at the property) and with ‘ample parking’, whereas we could not park in the area meant for cars as it was far too small for our car and inaccessible due to its tight entrance and the narrow street on which many other cars were parked. To your credit, you offered us a small goodwill payment to compensate us for the errors and importantly you have agreed to change the description of the cottage on your website. The kitchen and the bathroom were very clean, but the common areas were dusty and a bit grubby, with threadbare carpets and dirty walls throughout. Worryingly, there was a climbing rope left at the window of the loft room bedroom, which I can only assume was meant to be the means of escape in the case of a fire - access to the loft room was extremely tight and I did wonder whether the house meets fire regulations. Wheelie bins were full on our arrival so nowhere to put rubbish. Sykes - try to check what you’re advertising, this was the first time we have used you and we won’t be using you again."

"We really enjoyed our stay in the Regency! It is a lovely period apartment on two levels, decorated to a high standard with a lot of care. All the bedding, kitchen equipment etc were of a much higher standard than we usually find in a holiday home. Because of this, we did a lot of cooking in the apartment - there was a Waitrose nearby. There were also plenty of good restaurants within a couple of minutes' walk - we would especially recommend the Thai restaurant. Buxton itself is an attractive market town. We spent a day exploring, and we went to the Opera House for a play one evening. We spent the other days further afield, visiting local caves, eating Bakewell pudding, seeing Chatsworth House etc. There are also a lot of good walking routes but the weather wasn't nice when we were there, so we'll save that for another time. When we arrived home, being in such a beautiful holiday home has inspired me to redecorate our own home soon! Thank you to Jane for such a great welcome and a lovely home for a week."

"Would have liked warning about entrance to property; very narrow and bumpy track. Disappointed with cleanliness of property; dirty floors (dropped water in kitchen on arrival and when we cleaned it up the cloth was filthy), toilet brush holders were with filled with dirty water and downstairs plug was very grotty. On a positive note, we had a lovely week there with 4 adults and 2 dogs: easy walk into Wirksworth - with a nice pub (Hope & Anchor), superb chip shop, lovely butchers, coffee shops and supermarket/petrol station - so amenities handy. We were in just right spot to explore canal boat trip (Birdswood), Carsington Water (reservoir), Crich Tram Village, Ecclestone Steam train (based in Wirksworth - walking distance from cottage) - all of these were lovely and dog-friendly. Also popped to Bakewell - quaint place. The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped. I would recommend it to people for a peaceful, beautiful place to stay."
