It has everything one could possibly want and more for a relaxing break away. It was spotlessly clean (and we are very picky about cleanliness), extremely comfortable and peaceful. The owners are so lovely and have great, fast communication. The whole process from booking, checking in and leaving was a breeze. The owners have also gone the extra mile on little touches, from personalised The Lanterns items and decor (which made the accommodation feel more like a luxury hotel) to really thoughtful and very generous welcome gifts, all from local Buxton sources. You can tell that the owners genuinely care about their product and that you enjoy your stay to the upmost. The location of the property is perfect, just a short peaceful stroll into the hustle and bustle of lovely Buxton and equally a perfect location for anyone visiting the other wonderful delights the Peak District has to offer. We found The Lanterns to be very comfortable and well appointed with everything we needed for our stay.

The apartment is very close to the centre of Buxton with easy access to the Pavilion gardens and town centre. Despite the clear arrival instructions it is not the easiest place to find on arrival in the street and a suggestion would be that the small lantern sign at the entry to the lane is a bit more obvious. When we booked originally the information on Sykes stated that bed linen and towels were supplied. I checked this information on various occasions after booking. We then discovered after we had left home a week before our booking that towels being provided was no longer on the Sykes information. Fortunately the owner supplied them for us without any problem and we were very grateful for this. It was easy to contact the owner if necessary.

The owner was lovely and allowed us to go in early and kept us fully informed about the cottage. 10/10 Customer Service. The cottage was just so beautiful, very very clean, and just so cosy. The welcome package, cakes and mulled wine was very welcomed, thank you so much. The beds in the cottage were just so comfortable and very well needed after a day walking around the beautiful village of Tideswell. We had the most wonderful weekend and the local people, including Amy the owner, were some of the most friendliest people we have ever met! Thank you once again, and we hope to visit again sometime soon. Finally, we will be sure to recommend Angel Cottage to all our friends and family.

The apartment is in a very central location and extremely comfortable.

The bedrooms are top class and the living room very spacious. It was great to have a dishwasher and a washing machine. The off street parking is convenient too but a little awkward to park in. After the 2nd or 3rd day I was able to park there without difficulty. The only suggestion I would have is to improve the WiFi in the apartment if possible - it worked well in the living room but not in the bedrooms. Overall the apartment is very comfortable and I will probably rent it again the next time we go to the Peak District. As noted above the apartment is close to the Buxton Brewery Bar, and nice restaurantsâ¦ Greek, Spanish and Thai.

We enjoyed our week in this peaceful little cottage.

The owners have thought of every comfort and it was very clean and welcoming. We sadly didn't get any decent weather to enjoy the beautiful countryside but it is somewhere we will return to and give another go. Buxton is a nice little town and Longnor was lovely to stroll through. Some nice little pubs close by where the food was good and the welcome freindly. I recommend the Pack Horse, scrummy food. I guess WIFI would have been nice but we did know this before we went and to be fair the cottage is in a very secluded area, which is why we chose it. Thank you for sharing your lovely quiet retreat with us. Also the cheese was lovely!!

Things to do near Buxton

Thor's Cave

This natural cave in the valley of Wetton dates back to the Stone Age and is fairly accessible from the footpath below. Excellent walks abound, but you'll want to take care that there can be some steep drops and slippery surfaces in the cave itself. Car park and toilets are available. Dog friendly.

Ladybower Reservoir

This large reservoir was built to help supply the water needs of the East Midlands. Now a tourist attraction, there's a visitor's centre and lovely walks in the surrounding area that are suitable for all ages and activity levels. Dog friendly.

Bruntwood Park

Stockport's Bruntwood Park has a variety of leisure activities to suit visitors. As well as open space there is an 18 hole par 3 course, a children's playground and a BMX race track. Refreshments and a restaurant ensure everyone is fed and watered in the original Victorian conservatory. Dog friendly.

Dovedale

National Trust property. Limestone ravine, home to plants and wildlife, with interactive exhibits. Beautiful scenery, ideal for walks.
