About this property

Resting in Ambergate, a quaint village in Derbyshire, is this fabulous two-bedroom cottage, Riverside Cottage. Paces away from River Derwent, with direct views from the rear garden, and conveniently positioned near an array of amenities, this contemporary and characterful abode welcomes four guests and one well-behaved medium-sized dog, perfect for families and friends alike. Take advantage of the well-stocked kitchen/diner, featuring quirky floor and sleek navy cupboards, where you can prepare your meals and gather around the six-seater table; if you're a lover of the outdoors, why not opt for alfresco dining, choosing from several patio spots, dotted across the tranquil garden. If you can tear yourself away from your outdoor retreat, venture into the chic sitting room, to lounge in front of the Smart TV, or head upstairs and be greeted by two spacious king-size bedrooms; a bathroom completes the property, idyllic for an evening soak after your countryside adventures. Reaching the centre of Ambergate, enjoy a meal at The Hurt Arms, or perhaps an Indian inspired banquet at Anilia, whilst the essentials can be purchased at the local Morrisons. A short journey from Riverside Cottage, arrive at Belper River Gardens and its calming setting, the charming exterior of Heage Windmill, and Strutt's North Mill Museum, showcasing industrial heritage across the valley. Matlock is accessible by car, with the chance to visit the stunning Lumsdale Waterfall, gather your family at Matlock Bath Aquarium and arcade, or aboard the cable car up to the Heights of Abraham, offering views across the Peak District. There's also plenty to do in Carsington Water, including bird watching experiences at Bird Hide, Alpaca Walking Adventures, and visits to the Carsington Water Visitor Centre, offering fun-filled water sports and charming woodland walks. Enjoy Derbyshire by booking Riverside Cottage.

The village of Ambergate is located in Derbyshire, close to the confluence of the Rivers Amber and Derwent and within easy driving distance of the Peak District National Park. Like the neighbouring town of Belper, which is the location of the Derwent Valley Mills and Strutt's North Mill Museum, Ambergate is a part of the Derwent Valley Mills unesco World Heritage Site. The railway station, takeout joint, store, and tavern in Ambergate can meet all your self-catering requirements. Travel to Belper to discover its history, enjoy riverside strolls, and explore the Belper River Gardens. Go for a stroll at Heage Windmill or travel to Ripley. The milk, wine and crisps were much appreciated as a welcome gift. We liked the seating outside as the weather was wonderful. Friendly neighbour too. Ambergate is surprisingly well connected for such a small place, with regular train/bus services. We enjoyed several days out, including to Edale (High Peaks). We missed food service in the Hurt Arms so were very pleased to find Anila Indian restaurant open across the road https://anila.uk/dine-in/. Delicious meal, and they also do takeaway. Riverside Service Station is open early-late and has all the basics, including newspapers. Ambergate Chip Shop is strongly recommended. Riverside Cottage has a nice walk nearby, up through Shining Cliff Woods and out into open countryside with peaceful views. Everyone was friendly and helpful.

You are very lucky if you can park close to the property, you are parked on the busy A6 Derby to Matlock road. Parking in the cul de sac opposite is on a very steep slope and A6 has to be crossed. Instruction on how to use the key safe and especially the high tec yale key should be given to the guest before arrival and not on the back of the leaflet about house rules. The instructions on how to operate the heating should be clearly displayed by the control on the mantle piece and not left for the guest to find the small red book in the drawer in the kitchen in the folder. A mat should be provided for safety reason in the bath. My suggestion is the owners need some one to go round with them who has had plenty of experience of staying in holiday cottages and pointig things out to them.
