    Brassington Holiday Cottages

Positioned snugly in the rocky limestone uplands of the southern White Peak in the Peak District you’ll find Brassington, a holiday cottage destination that feels timeless. Set back from any main roads, Brassington is surrounded by lush British countryside on all sides. This is quintessential British beauty, with the Church of St James overlooking the pretty cottages set in its narrow streets.

Holiday cottages in Brassington are very popular for a relaxing retreat. Once a bustling lead mining town, Brassington is now a tranquil village, although evidence of its mineral extraction history remains across the landscape. The village has two great pubs providing food and drink. It's also close to the brilliant High Peak Trail as well as a variety of walking and cycling routes for all abilities.

At Snaptrip we have real-time availability on Brassington holiday cottages in all shapes and sizes. What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mr Teall - Verified booking

The site manager responded very quickly to our request for a shower stool. She definitely put her customers first which is what I call top notch service. Thank you Karen. This cottage has been well designed and is very comfortable. It is well equipped and the Wi-Fi speed is very good. So long as you position your seat correctly, there is a lovely countryside view across the valley with both livestock (sheep and cows) and wildlife (rabbits, hares and many different birds) to keep you entertained. We did that a lot and thoroughly enjoyed it. In the other direction there is a factory building in the yard you drive through to reach the cottage, three wind turbines and a row of pylons and cables. The factory building was quite noisy with constantly running machinery during working hours. As it was quite cold for our visit this was not a problem as you cannot hear it inside the cottage at all, but I suspect it would detract from sitting outside in better weather. The downstairs bedroom has the most storage space and a much larger shower room which is very good indeed. It has a king-size bed. The upstairs (only half-a floor up really) has a super king-size bed but a much smaller shower room and no wardrobe - just a row of pegs with hangers. Both bedrooms have a good amount of drawer space. As we rented the cottage as a couple (just two of us) we slept in the upper bedroom to have the advantage of a cosier room with a bigger bed, but kept our clothes in the downstairs one and used the downstairs shower room. It is a shame they did not put a super-king downstairs as well as there is plenty of room, but using the two rooms in the way that we did worked well and we were very happy with the arrangement. As usual, there were a couple of quirky aspects to the design like the hand-woven carpet in the downstairs bedroom which was extremely rough to walk on in bare feet and, because there was such a huge amount of cooking equipment, there was not actually any cupboard space to store food - just one empty drawer. We enjoyed our stay in Griffedale and we would recommend it to those of our friends who we know, like us, would enjoy the views on its good side. For the future, the addition of a charging point for electric cars would be much appreciated and, within a few more years, will become essential.

We honestly cannot rate this cottage and the owners more.

The cottage is a short distance from so much that even though we only stayed for 3 nights, we were able to explore so much and make some great family memories. The cottage itself was like a home a way from home. It was clean and comfy with so much space. The facilities that the owners provide were honestly above and beyond what you would expect from a holiday let. From kitchen appliances, cutlery, pots, pans and the necessities to everything you could need in a home to have a no worry stay. We holidayed with family so the two floors that included a separate bathroom on each is a dream to share the experience but have our own little bit of privacy. The decor was outstanding and so fresh but also charismatic, you can tell that the owners have put a lot of thought and love into it. There was so much space throughout for our family of 7 including a sweet, comfy little snug which the kids in particular adored. Claire was so accommodating and welcoming from the get go of our booking. The location was spot on too. Although close to a busy road with the pub opposite, it was so quiet and peaceful with everyone surrounding so polite. We are already talking about booking again and I have already recommended this place to a couple of friends and family members. Do not hesitate to book, you will not be disappointed! We cannot wait to come back for a longer stay next time in the very near future.

We were impressed with the modernisation, decor and fittings, as well as the personal contact from the owner to ensure everything was how we wanted it when we arrived.

Brassington is a great place to stay, with it's history and for walkers. The two top floor bedrooms have great views of the surrounding hills with their traces of former mine workings and rock outcrops. Overall, Brassington is an excellent base for exploring the Devonshire Dales and Peak District, remaining a relatively quiet and authentic former mining village. The odd lorry whizzing past the cottage before 9am was the only interruption to the overriding sense of calm. The hospitality provided in The Olde Gate Inn across the road is worth the cost of the stay alone - the quality of the food, in particular, is outstanding! Overall, we would rate our stay and the cottage 4.75 out of 5, with just a few practical points which bothered us a little (we're being 'picky' here and commenting in the hope our feedback will be useful) - a taller lamp in the lounge to provide a reading spot on one of the sofas, a shaving point in one of the bathrooms, a powerpoint near a mirror (for my wife's hairdryer). We would very happily return, however!

      Picture-perfect!

My family and I enjoyed a wonderful few days staying in the Royal Oak Cottage located in the beautiful village of Brassington. We hired bikes at nearby Carsington Water and enjoyed a pleasant ride around the reservoir (bookings to be made online). We had a trip to Castleton and climbed Mam Tor followed by coffee and cake in one of the pretty tea rooms in the town. Matlock Bath and Bakewell are a short distance from Brassington making this the perfect location to explore the Peaks. The village has two pubs both serving excellent food. We had a particularly warm welcome in the Miners Arms and arranged a 'takeaway' from the main menu one evening to take back to the cottage, the food was so delicious that we went back to eat the following evening. The locals are delightful and we loved walking around the village admiring the pretty cottages and scenery, this truly was the most relaxing few days. The cottage is spotlessly clean, spacious and has everything that you need for a comfortable and cosy stay. We cannot wait to return!

A charming and comfortable cottage in a stunningly beautiful and very peaceful location on a steep hill farm. Perfect for three (as in our case) or four adults. Rooms are very well appointed, and the beds are extremely comfortable! A few minor remarks: the state of cleaning on arrival left something to be desired (cobwebs everywhere, food debris and broken glass in dishwasher filter, hairs in shower drains) - from this and the visitor book, it looked as if we were the first guests for a while and it hadn't been cleaned on the day of our arrival. There were only just enough glasses and cutlery, so we had to wash up/run the dishwasher frequently (only 5 teaspoons!). Finally the photos may give the impression that shower gel is provided, but it isn't so remember to bring your own. But apart from that, this is a lovely property and very well situated to explore the southern half of the Peak District National Park. We had an excellent week here.
