Unfortunately we do not recommend a stay at Appletree Cottage.
The main reason for this is the beds. The double bed has a foam mattress. Only this is so sturdy that it literally feels like you're lying on a board. We therefore moved to the other bedroom halfway through the first night. However, the mattresses in this room are not much better. High in the middle because of the springs, only a few centimeters thick on the sides. So every time you turn over you practically roll out of bed. As a result, you don't really get a good night's sleep. The cottage itself has been refurbished and decorated with much love and attention. Yet you notice that the owner himself has never camped there for a week, because there are quite a few points that could be improved. ⢠There is a smart TV in the living room, but it will not connect to the WiFi in any way. So watching Netflix is not an option. ⢠The central heating is off in the summer. But that also means that the towel rail in the bathroom is off, so towels don't dry and you have to dry off with wet towels. ⢠There are not enough plates, so you actually have to run the dishwasher every day because you keep getting wrong, especially on plates. The cylinder of the front door is loose and the closing mechanism of the front door does not feel very reliable.

Pros: Overall this is a lovely cottage, very cosy with plenty of nice walks nearby.
The Wi-fi was good and the TV fine for a holiday cottage The kitchen and bathroom are both perfect for the job, with a few tweaks (mainly information/instructions) this would be 5 stars all round. We would quite happily stay there again Cons:The property is listed with off road parking, there either isn't any or there is no information in the cottage as to where it is. To some people including myself this can be a factor as to cottage choice. The cottage was cold on arrival as the central heating was off, but once we put it into operation the cottage soon warmed up. Unlike previous holiday cottages there were no logs/kindling/firelighters provided for log burner (expected a few and only a small amount of coal) but we brought our own logs expecting supply of possibly one nights worth to some this would be very disappointing. The toilet flush button is in a stupid position behind the toilet seat, obviously only minor but is just oversight as the bathroom is most spacious.Pros definitely outweigh the cons which could be easily corrected.

The road is quite tricky, and tight.
Our car was scratched quite badly due to this. On the photos it does not show what the actual full road looks like so I would say the photo is deceiving. The property itself was georgous and cosy and comfortable, however we did not feel it was very clean. The number of cobwebs and spiders everywhere really let the place down. We found 2 used face masks under the bedroom on the top floor, which was really off putting. The previous people that stayed clearly could not be asked to dispose of thier used face masks in the bin and decided to throw them behind the bed. This obviously was not spotted when it was being cleaned for our stay. We had to dispose them and gave the bedroom a good vaccum. Some of the dishes were dirty, the teapot was filthy and the bathroom/toilet was also not very clean. Bed in bedroom in first floor not comfortable at all, very noisy and squeaky, however bed in top floor was very comfortable. But overall a good comfortable and cosy stay and close to some beautiful spots, the garden was lovely.

A lovely getaway cottage in a quiet area off Snelston, we really enjoyed what Adelaide Cottage had to offer.
A very private location, farm animal encounters and a lovely host. More than enough amenities, anything needed was supplied when asked for. The cottage was clean, nicely decorated and very cosy. Helen made sure we made the most of our stay and was so kind. We especially adored the pet cat and ducks. Pool is extremely well kept and we were given plenty of opportunities to use it during the week. Welcomed with complementary goods, the host mentioned sheâs planning to introduce a welcome pack for the cottage. The area has nice walks but you must be devoted to walking about at least 40 minutes to reach nearest point of interest - the national trustâs Manor and the Norbury Church. With a car, you will make the most out of the area with quicker access to the surrounding villages and sites. I would recommend taking a bike as we found the nearby roads are perfect for a bike ride. Overall a fantastic and well needed stay, we truly wish the best for the owners on their future endeavours. Thankyou!

Would highly recommend Foxgloves.
A great little annexe attached to the owner's home. The property is spotlessly clean and well thought out with everything you'll need for your stay. The owner has thought of everything and it has been very nicely done, very comfy bed, with even a washer and dryer provided (should you need it) and a little private area to sit outside (weather permitting) It is very central and a great bolt hole for exploring the Peak District with many places and attractions only a short drive away and plenty of walks nearby if that's what you're looking for. Whilst the excellent facilities provided mean you can cook if you prefer, it is only a couple of minutes walk from Castleton village where there's no shortage of places to eat and drink. I ate at The George one evening and would recommend, friendly staff and good food. If you're planning a trip to this area, I would definitely recommend Foxgloves for your stay.
