Barn Cottage is praised for its cleanliness, spaciousness, and beautiful location in the Peak District. Guests appreciate the secure garden and field for dogs, and the property's charm and character. Some concerns about comfort and facilities are noted, such as the lack of Wi-Fi and uncomfortable furniture. However, the overall experience is positive, with many guests willing to return.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The cottage receives high marks for cleanliness, with multiple reviews mentioning it being 'extremely clean', 'spotlessly clean', and 'well maintained'. This indicates a high standard of cleanliness that guests appreciate.

The location is generally praised for its beauty and proximity to local attractions in the Peak District. However, some guests mention a busy road and limited walking paths, which slightly affects the score.

While the cottage is described as cosy and spacious, there are several comments about uncomfortable beds and seating, and issues with heating. These factors lead to a moderate comfort score.

Facilities are well-regarded, especially the garden and field for dogs. However, guests have noted the lack of Wi-Fi, small kitchen size, and issues with shower pressure and temperature, which impacts the score.

There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the hosts. Therefore, this category cannot be scored.

About this property

A lovely, detached stone cottage in the heart of Peak Forest, near the town of Buxton, boasting style and charm in a traditional home. The cobbled access pleasantly leads you straight into the well-presented kitchen, attached to which is a lovely open-plan sitting room with a dining area set for four and sumptuous seating arrangements around the TV. This makes the perfect social space for dining and entertaining friends during an enjoyable visit. Finished to a nice standard, the two delightful bedrooms ooze character among the classic furnishings. The king-size double bed sits under the eaves of the roof, with a skylight directly above for you to enjoy some romantic stargazing on a clear summers' night, whilst the double room enjoys a vaulted ceiling with dark wooden beams off-set with whitewashed walls. Out on the patio you can enjoy an afternoon over drinks with a light breeze drifting through the garden; the shared access takes you through to a patchwork of verdant fields beyond the enclosed farm land. Countryside encompasses the property so you can get lost in the natural surround, whilst the road at the end of the drive takes you directly into Peak Forest, where you can delight in the Devonshire Arms local pub and gain a real taste for countryside living. Nearby you can visit the pretty villages of Edale and Castleton and there are horse riding and cycling opportunities in Hathersage, should they take your fancy. There are walking opportunities wherever you turn and excellent pubs to stop at along the way. Barn Cottage is an accommodating property from which to enjoy many an attraction with the family.

The village of Peak Forest is situated in the heart of the Peak District National Park, boasting an excellent pub. The village is named for the Royal Forest of the Peak, which was an open area used as a royal hunting park rather than a forested area. Eldon Hole, one of the seven wonders of the Peak, is surrounded by walking country. Nearby are the villages of Edale, the start of the Pennine Way, Castleton, with four caverns to visit, the ‘plague’ village of Eyam, and Tideswell, where the church is regarded as the cathedral of the Peak. Enjoy a day out at Alton Towers or visit the Chatsworth House estate, Haddon Hall, or the house and gardens at Lyme Park, all within easy reach.

I couldn't understand why there were no bins in the bedrooms or living room. Otherwise we loved the spacious cottage and garden with field for walking dog.

The cottage was very clean and well maintained , with a pleasant secure garden for warmer days. The real bonus however was the use of a large field for the dog. Would happily book this cottage again.
