"The cottage was clean & tidy on our arrival. However, the cottage could do with some refurbishment and I for one would be prepared to pay more for that privilege. The bathroom was a huge waste of valuable bedroom space and could be made en-suite very easily. The shower over the bath could disappear and a proper shower cubicle could easily fit in the bathroom. The furniture in all the bedrooms was basic and in need of renewal. Not sure what you could do about it but the stairs to the top floor were difficult and dangerous. There is a need for a downstairs W.C. The property is meant for 7 people so this is not an unreasonable expectation. Lounge was adequate but the kitchen could do with a total refurbishment. The cooker top does its own thing (being electric) and the oven is untameable. I have got used to much better quality accommodation and was disappointed with this cottage. Myself and my family will not be back here until it has been refurbished. I'm sorry if this sounds offensive, - it is not meant to be but I believe that it is better to be honest. A lick of more inviting colour on the outside window and door frames would do much to lift the kerb appeal. The photographs on line flatter the property. Location is good and this would encourage a return stay if/when the property is refurbished. Housekeeping could be more diligent as we found three broken glasses hidden in the utility room - on a window ledge which is below counter height, beneath pile of tea towels. We were lucky not to injure ourselves on these. Fortunately, the beauty of the area was undiminished by the sub standard accomodation."

"This is a great cottage in a good location for accessing Keswick and the surrounding hills. The cottage was clean, tidy and well decorated with most things in good condition. As regulars staying in cottages it was pleasing to have a well equipped kitchen and especially welcome to find sharp knives. The lounge was homely and the wood burner a lovely addition especially in winter. Had it been warm enough the outside space and picnic table would have been a real treat ( we will come back in summer)There were some nice touches- the desk and reading area, suggestions of where to go/what to do and some lovely pictures and photos on the walls. It felt homely. We had 4 adults staying in the house and although it sleeps 6 we felt it would be a squeeze with any more people (downstairs and especially in the lounge and kitchen). The bedrooms were however all good sized and the bathrooms too.We found the sofas to be a bit too slouchy and all would have perferrred a more supportive seat and maybe a foot stool or two. The lack of designated parking is a bit of a bind but most evenings we secured a spot not too far away. Overall Vergers Cottage is one of our favourite finds in 15 years of staying in the Lakes and we will book again!"

"The cottage was ideal for our family - 2 adults, 3 children - age range 6 to 13 and our dog.It was well equipped and the rooms were of a fairly good size. The master bed room and the double room were particularly good in terms of size. The furniture and decor were tasteful but not fussy so we felt at home there and did not feel worried about children or dog being around expensive ornaments etc - i.e. it has a lovely lived in feel. The separate lounge and dinning room allow for flexible living. The utility room was a good size and particularly useful in terms of boot and coat storage. It was also an ideal place to dry off a dog.The woodburing stove was a treat and kept the downstairs very warm when lit.The village is quiet and lovely. I was very relaxing to work from the cottage to different parts of the village. There is a good shop and lovely places to eat in nearby Askham. Penrith is also within easy reach. This was a corner of the Lake District that we have not explored before and we enjoyed it as a less busy place compared to the central lakes."

"Arrival at the cottage was easy as knowing the area well it was easy to find. The parking space is tight but adequate but you might find someone in the space if our experience is anything to go by. if you do, try asking in the barbers shop two doors up!The cottage is excellently placed for quick access to Keswick town centre and was clean and reasonably well equipped apart from the lack of towels. The road noise drops significantly over night and did not interfere with sleep in any way so no worries there.Everything worked well and the heating was a godsend to dry out our clothing after 2.5 hours in the pouring rain at Honister.Apart from the parking thing everything was good so would definitely think of using this property again, we usually use Ambleside as a base but this property has changed our minds and we will return."

"Excellent property upgrades and extremely clean and comfortable as ever. BUT... A holiday is about arriving to a destination set up to give you a terrific experience for a short period of time. Whilst we brought the usual things we need, there was no milk, no coffee, not even a tea bag to make a cuppa when you arrive. You also need to remember to bring items like cooking oil and everything else as there are NO store cupboard items, and no hand soap to wash your hands in one of the toilets. It would also be nice to have a couple of bath sheets and / or bath robes as all that is provided is a regular shower towel per person that does not even hold around your waist (and I'm only regular in build..). Otherwise a wonderful stay!"
