Alternatively, if it’s peace and tranquillity you’re after, head to the 2-mile stretch of golden sand at Widemouth Bay: even in the height of summer it’s easy to escape the crowds on this vast beach. Heading inland, Dartmoor National Park is within touring distance (just under 30 miles), where you’ll find hidden beauty spots and remote walking trails in abundance.
