We stayed for a week in March.
My husband is 6ft 6inches and could not really stand up in any room, especially with his shoes on. If you are taller than about 5ft 9 in you risk banging your head. The cottage is in need of some tlc - esp as next door is for sale and has been cleaned up and painted. The shop/cafe down the road was very handy and The Bush Inn pub was lovely as advertised. Main issues for us were the bed which was very lumpy and bumpy and didnât make for a great nights sleep - a new bed or mattress is needed. Also the hot water - my husband likes a bath every morning - there was not enough hot water to fill the bath right up and I would then have to push the button again to try and heat it up for a bath or shower myself - these usually resulted in one of us using it in the morning and one of us in the afternoon or evening and on the day we left we couldnât get the boiler to come back on so after packing and getting hot and bothered I had to have a very Luke warm strip wash as the shower was freezing! On the plus side there was ample things such as wine, chocolate biscuits and things like dishwasher tablets and laundry pods - also tea and coffee which was appreciated. Another thing we are not a fan of is a 5pm check in - you pretty much lose a days holiday as you have to check out before 10am - that gives them 7 hours to clean a small cottage ? Travelling with children or dogs you want to get there and get in - a 2pm or 3pm at latest would I am sure be appreciated by most people and perhaps an 11am check out? (even though we were out by 9am). Also in the winter and dark I imagine locating the key safe could be an absolute mission - it took us a while to find! The logs left made the first evening a nice a cosy one. The beaches around this area that we saw didnât seem to be sandy - more pebbly. We drove to Saunton Sands a couple of times as they have a fantastic beach there.

The location is very peaceful on a working farm but is remote as we expected and you do need a car.
The hosts Mr and Mrs Hobbs are great there if you need them but not intrusive. The description for the bedroom in the eaves I think needs to be made clearer for the round house. It is completely open to the seating are below and there is no door on the bedroom. If someone is in bed and there are people in the kitchen/seating area they would be disturbed as happened for us. I do not sleep well but did not want to get up in the middle of the night and disturb my daughter in the upstairs room. Some of the property is looking tired - the bathroom is very dark and has dark wall covering and there is no natural light and the seal around the bath is looking very tired - I found the bathroom rather depressing. The kitchen is also looking rather tired but has plenty of items for any kind of cooking and the cooker and hob worked fine. The settee is also very old and rather uncomfortable. The surrounding grounds are lovely on this property and there are a number of picnic tables you can make use of but no seating area outside this property as it opens up onto the side where cars park. There is a table outside the window to the side of the kitchen which we used a few times. There can be a number of large trucks passing through to the next farm and they do go rather fast - more a warning for anyone with dogs and children - not enough to spoil the amazing peace of this property. We would stay at Lee Barton Farm again but not in the round house if there were more than 2 of us due to the bedroom being so open and the bathroom. Had a great week and walked to Duckpool a steep walk but lovely when you get there.

Arrived at cottage, in a lovely quiet village location.
First impressions good however immediately noticed grass had not been cut for some time and was approx 6 inches long. Weeds were everywhere and the patio table outside was filthy. Entered property and now the good points. The kitchen was clean and well stocked with quality cooking equipment. as was the lounge, bathroom and bedrooms with nice clean linen and towels.Bed comfortable. First trip to the toilet we found the toilet seat was broken after texting the owner ( a lovely lady but who lived miles from the property ) she arranged for someone to come round and replace it. There was no welcome pack, and no logs in the basket . Further the oven was filthy again rectified ,but as the lady who cleaned it said,it needed a deep clean. The fridge freezer needed defrosting and took 2 days to get to a reasonable temperature. Two of the window pains were also cracked. The door to the cupboard containing unusable vacume cleaner was also broken. I feel horrible to give such a negative review as the weather was great and we still enjoyed ourselves at the cottage despite its shortcomings. However I would be horrified to pay over One Thousand pounds at the the height of the season for a 2 bedroom property.

Carrows Stables is a wonderful location because it lies very remote and we enjoyed seaviews as well as the fact that the South West Coast Path is only a 5 minutes walk away from the cottage.
With The Rectory Tearooms and the Bush Inn close by, very good food was always at hand. The kitchen was very well equipped. Paula, the owner of Carrows Stable, was very kind and always helpful (she also cut the plants so that we had a great view from the window in the living room). Her dog Seamus was absolutely adorable and a highlight of our stay. Nevertheless, I agree with Carolyn´s review (August 2023) concerning the condition of the cottage: it needs redecorating and the cleaning was not very well done (cobwebs, empty dogfood tin from a previous tenant in the dustbin ...). The second bedroom and bathroom in the first floor are very small. Although the cottage is supposed to host six guests, I think the eating table is too small for more than four people. The pictures of the art deco window are not really accurate, because the window sill is not wide enough to sit there comfortably. Since old houses often smell musty, it would have been nice if the house had been ventilated and heated before we arrived. We also missed hooks in the entry hall for our jackets - luckily it didn´t rain during our stay so we just put them over a chair. In terms of price, I would have expected

We have just returned from a 2 week stay at carrow stables.
If you love walking and want a complete get away from hustle and bussel this is the place for you but be aware you will need your car alot. We met the owner and the renowned seamus the dog on day 1, very friendly and helpful. The cottage has all you could want but is getting a bit tired around the edges I think some tlc required soon and maybe just a tad better cleaning as dusty round edges, however only minor issue. We walked along the cliffs on many paths my 2 sons did a few longer yomps where they walked back from other places we visited such as sandy Bay. We visited Port isaac, tintagell, Eden project, lanhydroc House and gardens, Padstow. The Bush inn a short stroll up the road does lovely food and very nice staff if you don't want to cook, nice local cider too. It would have been lovely if tree could be pruned so sunsets could be seen out to sea from big window in lounge. It now obscures most of view and sunsets are quite spectacular. Better sheets would also be good, again clean and OK but they are rough even my 15year old commented on them. Thankyou for a lovely holiday we have all returned home much more chilled than when we arrived.
