However you want to spend your time, our North Yorkshire holiday cottages provide the ideal base. Choose cottages tucked away in scenic countryside, ancient stone houses overlooking the sea, or sweet traditional homes nestled in sleepy villages.

Why choose a North Yorkshire weekend break or staycation?

North Yorkshire rivals anywhere else in the UK for its charm and natural beauty. With dramatic landscapes, famous historical landmarks, coastal towns, and spectacular countryside, this county has something for everyone.

The North York Moors is a registered National Park and makes for an amazing day trip. The wild beauty is made even more remarkable with miles of wild heather and a rugged coastline, perfect for memorable walks and enchanting views.

This stunning region is also home to some truly picture-perfect towns and villages each with its own charm and character. You'll fall in love with the village of Staithes, which is built right in the gap between two rugged cliffs and has the loveliest high street filled with boutiques and cafes. Knaresborough is a larger market town built along the River Nidd and boasts numerous historic landmarks, such as the remains of Knaresborough Castle.

The popular and historic seaside resort of Whitby falls within North Yorkshire and is well worth a visit, not least to stand in awe of the spectacular ruins of Whitby Abbey and enjoy a relaxing day on the coast. This is the town that inspired Bram Stoker to create his famous vampire novel, so watch out for vampires, as this is where Count Dracula landed!

While staying in North Yorkshire, a trip to the city of York is a must. Have an adventure as you march along the medieval walls of the city, discover the history of the Vikings in the Jorvik Viking Centre, explore what life used to be like in the region at the York Castle Museum, and enjoy a well-earned cuppa and a scone at the famous Betty's Tearoom.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mrs Wilkinson - Verified booking

We stayed for seven days in May 2022. The cottage was well situated for visits to places of interest in the Dales and beyond. As we are mobility-impaired, we spent half our time sitting in the conservatory looking out at the beautifully landscaped garden and watching the many varieties of birds flying back and forth between the trees, bushes, and pond. These included goldfinches and yellow wagtails in the garden, and swallows in the courtyard. Everything we needed for cooking and for relaxation was provided, and we arrived to find a cherry cake and some chocolate cookies, plus fresh carnations from the garden, which was a lovely surprise. There is a petrol station at the end of the lane as you approach the property. There are good Farm Shops nearby which provide take-out and eat-in meals as well as fresh local produce. A tranquil holiday, and we would recommend it.

    • Mrs Baston - Verified booking

Cottage was not quite what I expected It was quite comfortable and the beds and shower room were good, however lack of adequate space to use table was a pain so we had to eat on our laps not something I expected.. The garden being separate from the house caused us problems as our old dog sometimes needs a toilet break during the night and in the wet and windy weather we experienced taking him outside on the lead was far from ideal. This was not made clear on the cottage details and I would have not chosen to stay here had I known. This was not made clear in cottage details. Parking was also not ideal in the bad weather we experienced. Garage was old and tatty and difficult to park in so we parked on the road opposite, also not ideal in bad weather.

The Old Stables is the perfect location for a couple looking to spend a relaxing few days in the lovely Yorkshire Dales. You can step out of the front door and experience the picturesque countryside with lots of local walks right on your doorstep. It's very quiet with hardly any traffic. The property looks newly renovated with everything you could need in the kitchen. The lounge/bedroom is comfortable and the ideal place to relax in after a long day's walking. The bathroom has a lovely shower. The layout of the property has been very well considered. We had a great stay. Thank you Ruth and Mike for your hospitality.

    • Miss Hartshorne - Verified booking

We have stayed in around 20 holiday cottages over the years and this was the best. It was ideal for my mom who is registered disabled and has mobility difficulties as it has parking right outside the property, disabled access, rise and recline chair and higher chairs and beds. The cottage was extremely comfortable and clean. It had everything we could ask for including a fantastic conservatory, beautiful garden and stunning views of fields. The hosts were friendly and helpful and ensured everything was to our satisfaction. We cannot recommend Garth Cottage enough and hope to return before long.

    • Mr Buckham - Verified booking

We would definitely recommend this cottage. We always say as soon as we walk into a cottage, we know whether we are going to like it, this one is just 'Excellent' and ticks all the necessary points we look for such as cleanliness, presentation, comfort, 'No Pets'. More that enough items for four people to stay with plenty of room for everyone. Plenty of cupboard space, with good fridge & freezer, never used the washing machine. The bedrooms are large as is the living room and kitchen. The conservatory finishes everything off, thoroughly enjoyed our stay here even if the weather was C..p!!
