About this property

Resting in the rural village of Thornton-Le-Dale in North Yorkshire is The Old Coach House, a charming, sympathetically restored barn. Well-positioned to explore the delights of the North York Moors National Park and the coastline, whilst adorning a stone-fronted exterior and original features throughout, The Old Coach House makes the ideal base for a family getaway, inviting four guests. Benefit from two off-road parking spaces before entering the home, reaching the spacious open-plan living space, boasting lofty A-framed ceilings, an original fireplace with electric fire, plush seating, a formal dining table, and a well-equipped kitchen; here you can spend time as a family as you prepare meals, dine, and unwind. When sleep calls, retreat to two well-appointed bedrooms, including a double with en-suite, and a twin with en-suite, the latter ideal for the children of your party. Awaken to a coffee upon the front courtyard, before exploring the village and surrounding attractions; start off by grabbing a bite to eat at Lavenders Tea Rooms or the Brandysnap Bistro, before grabbing the essentials at the nearby Nisa supermarket. Travel the national park, starting with a stroll through Ellerburn Bank Nature Reserve, or a nature-filled hike through the North Riding Forest Park, before an exhilarating, family-friendly afternoon at Go Ape Dalby. Flamingo Land Resort is also nearby, possible to reach whilst aiming for the Howardian Hills AONB, home to Castle Howard, a stunning stately home, and The Yorkshire Arboretum, sweeping with woodland and walking paths. For a day at the beach, head to Scarborough, with the chance to hike up to the castle, visit Peasholm Park and its oriental landscape, or book tickets for one of the many events held at the Scarborough Open Air Theatre. Round off your break by touring York and its city walls, brush up on your historical knowledge at the York Castle Museum, discover the remains of St Mary's Abbey, or enjoy an immersive afternoon of archaeology at DIG: An Archaeological Adventure. Experience all of this at The Old Coach House.

Just two miles east of Pickering, in the Dalby Forest and North York Moors National Park, is the picturesque village of Thornton-le-Dale. This exquisite spot at the top of a lovely valley is a haven for walkers, bikers, and nature enthusiasts. Despite being 13 and 20 miles apart, Scarborough and Whitby provide all the services and amenities of two of the top coastal destinations in the nation. A one-hour drive from each other, York and Castle Howard provide all the history and culture a vacation might want. Pickering, Malton, Kirkbymoorside, and Helmsley, nearby market towns, are fantastic vacation spots and the focal points of numerous summer events and performances. There are numerous chances for a fun day out in the National Park and Coastline. There are miles of open moor to roam through in the nearby North York Moors National Park.

A few more touches and it would be perfect. Needs a mat in the bath, very slippery when getting out and a grab handle. Iron was provided but no ironing board? WiFi would have been great.

It would have been nice to have a welcome/information pack with some information about the area and property. Bin/recycling info, recommendations of places to eat/visit.

    G. a teapot, bath mats in the two bathrooms (which had quite slippery floors), baking trays. There was a lack of information both about the house itself (e.g. which rubbish goes in which bin) and about the surrounding area - we know the area well but other visitors might not. The house itself was comfortable and well decorated, the owner was welcoming and helpful, and the parking space was excellent. With just a few adjustments (wi-fi perhaps?) it would be a really good place to stay.
