What our customers say about their holidays

    • Testimonial - Verified booking

"Probably the best view we've ever had of any holiday villa we've stayed at, this includes the south of France, lake district, Devon, Germany etc.

Just amazing! The house was very comfortable and had some little touches that we really loved - binoculars, really well equipped kitchen and lots of mugs, so you don't constantly have to wash up. The large fridge freezer was great and made sure we enjoyed the best of the local produce. The beds were all really comfortable and the linen good so we all slept really well. Carbis Bay is a great location, really quiet being residentail but a short walk to St Ives for all the hustle and bustle, perfect. Porthmeor beach cafe - we saw two seals swimming past whilst eating some of the best tapas and fish I've ever had . Magical! The Queens hotel St Ives - we pitched up on a rainy night and had some wonderful food, check out the menu it is just superb. And then to top it of they had an open mic night, a great time for everyone. Godolphin - we went for the bluebells and spent a great time at the property having a tour of the house and enjoying the local arts and crafts at the food and crafts fair.Glendurgan gardens - beautiful and with a great history.Clamoring over the rocks at Godrevy point and again we were joined by a seal for just a few minutes but they were very special moments. We always find Cornwall a special pace but this property made sure we could make the most of out time, even if just walking down to the beach and watching the waves roll in." We have being staying with Carbis Bay holidays for a significant amount of years, and this is the first time that we feel we have cause to complain.

Photographs and property description are somewhat misleading, especially the ones showing the tables outside, as they face directly on to a road, with no privacy. The small courtyard at the rear was in a untidy state with most of the flower containers having dead flowers and weeds in them. When we arrived the lawn was totally overgrown and the borders needed weeding and a general tidy up. Other points to note:- Toilet roll holders in un-appropriate positions, one of which my husband had to fix. Toilet seat in main bathroom was loose and rotated when you sat on it. One of the oven shelves had brown stuff dried on it and looked like it would drip if warmed up. I noticed the gravy boat in the bottom drawn had brown splashes up one side. The sofa and cushions had seen better days, and one of the remotes looked like it had been chewed. On a safety note I felt the bannister going to the utility area should have been on the left hand side and not the right. Also steps, leading up to property need a hand rail at the beginning. We hope you find these observations constructive, as we wouldn't want other guests to have the same disappointment as we had.

The location of the sail loft is ideal, you are less than 2 minutes walk to beaches and the harbour but still in a quiet location tucked away behind a little Cafe.

We didn't hear any noise from the cafe at any point. Property has no outside space but with us being so close to the beach this wasn't too much of an issue. The sail loft is accessible down some steep stone steps, we had a 2 year old with us and I myself am pregnant and found this a little tricky. Once down stairs into the property the kitchen and living space are specious, clean and lovely but not really any natural light with it being below ground. The bedrooms and bathroom where clean and fresh and a big bath tub was a bonus. The stairs however are in my opinion a bit dangerous. They are open wooden stairs with no rail or barrier at one side to stop you falling off. We had to be extremely careful with the 2 year old and I was very conscious myself going up and down. A simple hand rail would make this so much safer. Saying that the host was lovely and helpful, beds and bedding where lovely, lots of fresh towels and bits for the beach to use over your stay. I recommend this but maybe not with anyone who has little children or is a bit unsteady under foot.

"We really enjoyed our week in Carbis Bay.

Chy Lowen was beautiful, home from home and had everything we could wish for. We liked the open plan living area and the fact that all the bedrooms had a bathroom. It was in a lovely location with wonderful sea views. Very convenient to join the coastal path and walk the very scenic route in to St Ives or down to Carbis Bay beach. The nearest footpath to do this is just down the road in Parc Owles. All the beaches around here are lovely, Porthkidney is just round from Carbis Bay Beach where dogs can go all year round, although they can go on Carbis Bay beach before 8 a.m. and after 7 p.m. Lots of nice restaurants but we would highly recommend having a meal at Porthminster Beach Cafe and we also had a nice meal at The Captain’s Table which is upstairs in The Sloop Inn. It’s a nice walk in to St Ives in the evening and easy to get a taxi back to the house if too late to walk back. We had a wonderful week with lots of walking and look forward to coming back again soon." J. Davies

Chy Lowen is a wonderful property to stay in, so much that we would like to stay again in 2024.

Some points that we noted were: 1. We found the sofa too soft. It's ok once you're in, but it's not too easy to get out of! (A minor point). 2. Ground floor bathroom. If the window was kept shut for more than a couple of days, then the smell of damp would occur. As we didn't use this bathroom very much, it wasn't an issue for us. Perhaps it would be an issue for larger parties. 3. Oven trays need replacing. 4. Corner unit to access kitchen equipment is not user friendly. 5. A large picture would be nice above the fire. 6. The lamps in the lounge are cheap and nasty. 7. Outside BBQ grill needs to be cleaned / replaced. 8. The 3 steps going up to the lawn made me nervous when wet - slippy. I'm not elderly, I'm 52. A rail may be helpful. The above are minor points and there are many positive things about the property that makes us want to stay again next year.
