Pippin Cottage in St Ives, Cornwall, is frequently described as a cosy and charming property with a well-maintained garden, ideal for dogs. Its location is praised for being quiet and convenient, with easy access to beaches, walks, and local amenities including a friendly pub. The cottage is well-equipped and often noted for its comfortable bed and homely touches.
Cleanliness reviews are mixed, with several guests finding the cottage spotless and well-kept, while others noted issues with dust, cobwebs, and floors. The inconsistency in cleaning standards has led to some dissatisfaction, although recent comments suggest improvements may have been made.
The location is highly regarded, with guests appreciating the quiet setting, proximity to fabulous beaches, walks, and the convenience of nearby transport links for exploring the area. The local pub and friendly neighbours are also frequently mentioned positives.
Comfort is generally well-received, with the bed and cosy atmosphere being highlights. However, some guests found the furniture and bed uncomfortable, and the living space cramped for more than two people, which slightly lowers the overall comfort score.
Facilities are mostly commended for being well-equipped and practical, especially the kitchen. However, there are remarks about maintenance issues such as light bulbs and the towel rail not working, and some confusion over check-in times. The garden is consistently praised.
While some guests mentioned receiving a welcome pack with scones, cream, and jam, others did not reference any gifts. As such, it's not possible to accurately assess the consistency of thoughtfulness across all stays, and guests should not expect gifts as a guarantee.
The Pippin is a charming, cosy granite terraced house in Lelant. With beautiful beaches on the doorstep, pretty villages around and St Ives just minutes away, it is a perfectly positioned holiday home. This cosy cottage is in the heart of the peaceful village that is bound by the Hayle Estuary to the east and the sweep of St Ives Bay to the north. The white stretch of Porth Kidney Sands is just 10 minutes walk away, this little known beach is stunning and lined with incredible sand dunes.
The two storey cottage has characterful accommodation with a lovely inglenook fireplace with wood burning stove in the living room for a warm welcome as soon as you walk in through the front door. The kitchen and shower room are also on the ground floor and upstairs are the two bedrooms one double and one single, both beautifully appointed. There is an enclosed sunny garden to the rear which has a barbecue and is perfect for relaxing in the warmer months with a good book. Lelant itself has a basic provisions store and good food is served at the Badger Inn. Golfers are welcomed at the nearby club and are sure to enjoy the 18 hole links course which has great sea views. The branch line to St Ives is just down the hill - hop aboard for this short train ride - on arrival, the much painted pretty harbour will need no introduction - enjoy an ice cream whilst taking in the view. The Pippin is a lovely home for a small family or group of friends and is an ideal base for exploring Cornwall at any time of year - book soon!
The village of Lelant sits on the mouth of the Hayle estuary, with a large sandy beach to one side and a narrow strip of sandy coves accompanying the estuary water inland. Ideally placed for sightseeing, where you can jump on the branch line to St Ives for a day trip or drive across to the magical St Michael's Mount in Marazion. With beaches on both coasts easily accessible you will never be stuck for trips to the beach. The closest is Porthkidney Sands which can be reached on foot along the estuary which winds its way through sand dunes to where the River Hayle joins the Atlantic Ocean. Lelant has two pubs, a deli and restaurant and a golf course with outstanding views.

The cottage is well appointed, comfortable, practical and well maintained. Dogs are well catered for and the local beach is wonderful - in all weathers!

Firstly the information leaflet was not up to date with confusing instructions, eg how to use the TV system as there was no additional file on the shelf above the TV as suggested in the info file. Secondly, on our arrival it was rather chilly and we thought to light the wood burner but no logs in the scuttle! As for comfort. Please try the very soft mattress. NOT comfortable. Otherwise a very pleasant stay. Thank you

Friends described the pictures as looking like the Caribbean! Only needed the car once in the whole week for a trip to the supermarket as the nearest shops just a bit too far to walk with shopping on a hot day but managed on foot for the bulk of the time. A train trip to St Ives only taking 8 mins and costing less than parking. Dog friendly accommodation near a dog beach is surprisingly hard to find and one this good is like gold.
