What our customers say about their holidays

    • Rachel - Verified booking

On the day of check in I received a call about 2pm saying they were expecting a plumber to the property as there was a number if issues that needed to be dealt with.

I said we were 3 hours away so that would not be a problem. He said there was a problem with the radiator. The sink and the shower. When we arrived at the property there were 2 dirty bags of linen at the front door making it very difficult to drop off our luggage with it all in the way. On Thursday the housekeep called to ask if the linen was left and could she call to collect it.so this was in our way for whole time we were there. This really was not a good 1st impression. The radiator in the top floor bathroom was absolutely pouring with water when we went upstairs, we had to hand tighten it to stop the flow and leave a bowl under it for the rest of the week. The shower in the same bathroom switched off half way through and would not come back on again. The issues with the water in the top bathroom caused water to to come through the ceiling in the twin bedroom. The shower in in the middle front bedroom leaks from the corner. The radiator at the front door does not work and it is very cold in living room. And the sink in the kitchen sprays out causing you to get soaked every time you use it. I reported these problems and the fact plumber had not been to sykes in Saturday morning. Louis assured me he would get this sorted and someone would be out.. He rang me later that day to ask if anyone had been out which they hadn't. I then insultingly received a email on Wednesday asking me if my case had been sorted and to rate my experience. Noting had been done and the issues are still very much a problem. which is a shame because the property is lovely but it really does need these issues sorting before you start to charge 3 times as much in the summer months..I had read a few reviews previously stating some of the issues which means they have not been addressed which is not very good to say how much we spent to come for a weeks holiday. I await your reply

We had a lovely stay at Marchbourne overall, sadly encountered some issues on our first night however after a couple of days Skyes got this sorted for us & remained in contact with progress reports the entire time.

The home is beautiful, & in an ideal location however the kitchen was poorly equipped, comparing it to other stays with Classic Cottages this was more like a 4* rather than 5. We struggled with the lack of kitchen appliances such as large enough pans & not enough utensils to serve food (7 of us stayed so large volumes of food to be cooked), & the crockery was very chipped, the cutlery we found was dirty & our bed linen was still wet when we arrived. There was still sand throughout the floors of the property & lots of marks on the walls of what could only be described as splatters of insects being killed, there are marks on a lot of the upholstery which we understand is bound to happen due to the volume of stays this beautiful property has. The owners were very reasonable & offered us a refund for the inconvenience which is greatly appreciated & despite some hiccups Skyes Cottages were fantastic, namely Cameron who went above & beyond out of his working hours to ensure that we were ok & issues were resolved as quick as possible. There was also no welcome book or information about how to work appliances, or information about what there is to do locally etc, this was requested from Skyes Cottages & although a very basic guide was sent the information appeared to be old & didn’t include anything about the local area. I think if the cleanliness was to a much higher standard & things such as perhaps an information guide was shared it would’ve been nicer.

"I think we were the first guests at Pentreath and I have to compliment both yourselves and the owners for making this a great base for our Easter holiday.

The cleaning was exceptional and the property beautifully prepared for our arrival, all the furnishing has been carefully thought out by the owner and provides a lovely holiday feel. We entertained our grandchildren for some of the time so the games and toys for indoor and outdoor use were appreciated. It was a pleasure to return to the property after long days out exploring the area. We would strongly recommend Paradise Park, managing to amuse the kids for over 5 hours, the beach is of course just a short walk away from Pentreath so that provided daily free entertainment. We had a takeaway from Becks, had a lovely brunch at Godrevy Cafe with a refreshing walk on the beach afterwards, what stunning views to Godrevy Lighthouse. Another trip to recommend was to the Seal Sanctuary at Gweek, again this kept the kids amused for a long time - educational as well! All in all, it was great holiday and Pentreath suited us as an ideal base to look around the area, loved the rear garden, quite a sun trap great for a bbq." A. Straw

"We had a fantastic holiday and although we have been to Cornwall many times, the little extras Carbis Bay Holidays provided, made it a bit more special!

It was a very long journey and to be welcomed with a cream tea was a lovely surprise. The house was amazing and very clean, and everything you could possibly need was provided. Our favourite walk was to pick up fish and chips at St Ives harbour, then walk through the back streets until we came to the little church perched on top of The Island. It’s such a breathtaking place to sit and have a picnic, we really didn’t want to leave. We loved the little shops in the High Street especially the one that sells the most amazing curry sauces and pickles. The shopkeepers were extremely friendly and urged us to think about coming back for the New Year. (Something we hadn’t considered before). This is the first time in many years that everyone in the family wanted to stay longer. The house had a lovely feel to it and is very well placed near the train station and for walking to the shops. We really can’t wait to come back and would definitely recommend ‘Carbis Bay Holidays’ and ‘Pentreath’." N. Fettah
