What our customers say about their holidays

    • Yvonne - Verified booking

We know what to expect with Sykes and we got exactly what we had expected, a cottage of the highest standard.

The cottage was spotless, possibly one of the cleanest we have ever been to with an abundance of materials to keep it so. It is full of almost everything you would need with a lot of extras which was useful. One of the best things for us was the double bed was so comfortable . There were a couple of things we could have done with but leaving a note for the owner is always best as everyone is different. The cottage is in a quiet location but close to the amenities of a supermarket and post office in the next village and Scarborough itself. The parking was good, we have a large car and that fitted perfectly. The small courtyard garden was perfect for our dog and as advertised it isn't enclosed and it is very dark at night. There is a great outside table and an abundance of chairs. The attention to the overall detail in this classic cottage is perfect and almost anyone could have a great stay. If I have one observation it would be that the Chesterfield sofas look great but in reality we found them uncomfortable BUT this is just our opinion . This cottage makes a great get a away and bolt hole for anyone and in current times knowing that great care has been taking in its cleanliness.

We have enjoyed many holidays in the Dales and Lakes over the past 10 years or more.

We found Londesborough Cottage to be the best equpped and most comfortable cottage we have visited so far and don't hesitate to recommend it to anyone wanting a quiet 'away from it all' break but within easy reach of many of Yorkshire's fine towns and villages. This is not your average dog friendly cottage, this is a well appointed home that has been well maintained. The cottage is ideal for a couple or small family (we were a party of 2 adults, 1 child and 1 dog) and we were surprised at how quiet and peaceful it was at night. We have probably never slept better whilst on holiday. The owner provided useful information in advance to make sure we got the most from the week and we were lucky in having hot sunny weather for most of the time. Sykes were as efficient as ever from the initial booking through to making sure we had all the information we needed. Needless to say, we will be booking Londesborough Cottage again next year.

Had the most amazing week at Londesborough Cottage.

From the moment we arrived we felt relaxed and at home and couldn't have asked for a more beautiful place to call home. An eclectic mix of furniture, tasteful decor and lovely artwork and accessories makes for a warm and cosy retreat to really get away from it all and unwind. Great location - close enough to amenities and attractions to visit but more importantly conveniently situated to enjoy the peace and quiet. We spent our days out and about but enjoyed our evenings cooking dinner in the fully equipped kitchen and then relaxing with a drink or two. Slept longer than usual in the warm, comfy beds too. Would highly recommend this beautiful cottage to anyone and everyone (but not before we've rebooked for ourselves!) Thank you to Bob and Claire and everyone else for a perfect week......and the wine and cake x

      This cottage is wonderful.

Felt so homely . just what we needed . we wanted relaxation and that's what we got . they've thought of everything .it's a very charming place with equistive attention to detail, the books , the art the original features high ceilings etc all add to the charm. The need was comfy. The shutters were bliss to catch up on some sleep. We will be back. Only issue was the washer wasn't working when we arrived which had a note on it.. I'm a lighter traveller clothes wise and tend to use the washer in a cottage .it was not a big deal in the scheme of things. The area is quite .pubs shops etc are a 10 min walk away. Dog walking is good .it's near many attractions to visit. Would highly recommend it.

We left our feedback with the owners who provide a review book to fill in at your discretion.

It was as described and whilst dog friendly did not smell of dogs like we have found at previous cottages.Books galore on the shelves and an eclectic mix of what some may call clutter. The decor was beginning to look a little tired in places.Lots of electric appliances in the kitchen with just a small freezer compartment in the fridge and very little room to store your shopping(Several noted the same in the cottage reviews) If it were not for having a dog I would stay at a Premier Inn or similar as it costs less. We would stay again though with our dog and would definitely recommend the cottage but explain the caveats mentioned earlier
