We arrived to the cottage just after 3.
00pm Sunday afternoon. When passing through the rear gate we were confronted by a strong smell, it was apparent it was coming from the various waste bins. On entering the property we immediately read the information booklet which stated that the bins required leaving at the rear gate, and collection day was Monday. With this in mind I went to move the bins to the gate for collection the next day. As I moved the large black waste bag/sack a rat ran out from underneath and scurried under the shed, also I was covered in all types of flies. It was clear the bins hadn't been emptied in weeks. Not the way I envisaged to start my holiday. Being unable to contact the owners, I contacted Sykes but got no adequate response. In order to try and resolve the issue i read through the information booklet. There were six 'bins' in total no information as to which bins should be put out and on what date. However, on speaking with the lady living in the adjoining property she advised of what bins were due for collection that week and that collection day was in fact Tuesdays. She also said the bins would not be collected from the rear gate and we were to place them at the end of the drive. Thus explaining why none had been emptied for a number of weeks. The main problem was the general waste bin and sack. The bin was already overflowing on our arrival so we were unable to use that. Reluctantly on our last day we placed our black rubbish bag in the black sack, this being the sack the rat had gnawed into. I have to say the inside of the property was lovely and very clean. The outdoor space could also do with some maintenance. The patio and paths were full of weeds. The length of the grass at the top of the garden was also very long which was not helpful when trying to locate the area where our dog had done her business.

Copper Bal Cottage was very clean and tidy, with stylish modern furnishings and tasteful artwork. It has an off-road parking space ideal for a medium-sized car or an on-road parking for a larger car. The garden is really pretty with a patio and a grass lawn, flowers and trees and a choice of seating options. We enjoyed meals on the patio and sitting under the awning to read and relax. We cooked in the kitchen which is well-equipped with a full-sized cooker, fridge-freezer and washing machine. The dining area is bright and comfortable. The lounge is cosy with a TV and streaming services. We didn't need the log burner but this would have been a treat on a cold or wet week. Upstairs the beds are comfortable with white linens and the shower is excellent. It is ideal for a couple of friends - like all older properties the ceilings are low in several of the downstairs rooms and on the stairs but we were aware of this when we booked and it is no problem for someone under 6 feet tall. The village is most practical with the village stores across the road, a post office and a few pubs; it is on a bus route and there are proper roads! There is such a lot to do nearby, magical coastline such as Prussia Cove, gardens such as Trengwainton and Godolphin, the Minack Theatre and St Michael's Mount. It is easy to shop, with Penzance so close by. And don't forget the superb jumpers at Tam O'Shanter in Penzance. You could go on a day trip to the Isles of Scilly from the Penzance Heliport or stay here before going onto Scilly for longer. The owner had gone to a lot of effort to make you feel at home and the letting company provided welcome packs on arrival.

I would absolutely stay at this cottage again and generally things were a very high standard, however there are some minor things which could be improved.
Firstly, although I donât expect a âwelcome packâ when I stay away, it does seem odd to have a coffee pod machine without even one pod to get you started (or indicate the type of pod required!) Similarly, there were very nice tea, coffee and sugar canisters⦠all empty. In fact all that was in the kitchen was salt and pepper. It is standard to have at least cooking oil available. In addition, they had premium bakeware, but I discovered when going to remove it from the oven that there were no oven gloves. (Incidentally in the very comprehensive book of instruction manuals the oven is the only one not included). Also strangely the sky box had a parental lock on it. We couldnât remove this as it didnât seem to be noted anywhere. I would also suggest mentioning that the property isnât suitable if you have any accessibility issues - the stairs are very steep and only have a rail on one side. Thereâs also a very small and not very visible step to the living room which we kept stumbling on. (Not the cottages fault!) The listing states that there is space for two cars on the gravel driveway, however when we stayed there was a large van parked on the gravel most of the time. This made manoeuvring back out onto the road tricky at times. These are minor details as the standard was generally very high and we enjoyed our stay.

Victory View is a stunning holiday cottage, with incredible views out towards the sea.
It was lovely being able to open the bi fold doors upstairs in the living room and just watch the boats! The cottage has everything you need for a great holiday. The welcome biscuits, Cornish tea, Cornish butter and Cornish milk. The hot tub was brilliant and the garden completely secure for our children and our dog, very private also. The house has been renovated and you can tell how much love and effort has been given to the building, it really is stunning inside and out. All the appliances are top quality. The beds were very comfortable. Great bath and shower also. Racquel and Darren also recommended places to eat, The Queens Arms locally, was one of the best pub/restaurant dining experiences we have ever had, so good we went back a second time! We also really enjoyed The North Inn. Local places such as St Just are simply stunning and well worth a visit. Would recommend Victory View to anyone and would love to return at some point. Thanks to Racquel and Darren for allowing us to let it for a week, we had a fantastic holiday!

After hours of driving we were surprised to find biscuits, tea, coffee and a small bottle of milk on arrival - a very welcome treat for tired travellers! This was by far the cleanest pet friendly cottage we’ve stayed at. It had a no pets upstairs rule which suited us as our 15 year old dog sleeps downstairs at home anyway and it kept the upstairs area clean and hair free. The mesh stair gate was great as we popped it on the front door so she could lie and watch everyone walk past with the doors open to keep the cottage cool. The beds and sofas were comfortable and the cottage itself was maintained to a high standard and situated in a quiet area within the park. The park was small and peaceful which we really enjoyed. The parks location is out of the main busy areas but still within a few minutes of the popular areas and beaches - it was lovely to come back to a quiet area after a busy day. We have already recommended the Finches to our friends and will return for another visit in future!
