"I wouldn't stay in the Borrowdale cabin again or recommend it. We have stayed in some lovely self-catering accommodation, but this was our first stay in a cottage through Cottages 4 U. However, this place needs some serious up date in décor. The carpets and furniture were very old and had not been cleaned in a long time. My young son dropped a Lego figure down between the cushions in the couch and when I retrieved this, I found a mouldy biscuit, dirt and dust. The sheets were old and the poppers on the duvet cover in the double room didn't close. The latch at the top of the window in the double room was broken, the heater in the bathroom didn't work (despite us finding the switch outside the bathroom) and there was a patch of mould on the ceiling in the twin room, which made the room smell of damp. There was no iron or board in the accommodation, which I appreciate was small, but there could have been room for a table ironing board and iron in one of the cupboards. Our main complaint was the metered electricity. I have stayed in over 20 different self-catering places all over the country and none of these were metered. The fact that this accommodation was metered, was mentioned in VERY SMALL print on the second page of our booking confirmation. Once inside the property there was no signage to suggest where the meter was, so we had to hunt for this. Details for our stay and contacts etc were in a very out of date book, hidden away under the television, when I feel that due to their importance they should have been sitting on the kitchen table or work surface. We may have received a reduced rate for this property with my Tesco vouchers, however there is still no excuse for the condition of this property, and it certainly would put me off booking with Cottages 4 you again. Regards Casey Rust "

"Arrived in the snow, the location and outlook was lovely. On first impressions the house was clean, but found it could do with a deep clean - Some surfaces & items felt tacky, and there were areas of dust. You don't expect to have to clean a pan you've just taken out of the cupboard before using it.I'm guessing the house may have been empty the week before, as it was really cold! It took over a day to actually warm the house through, and as it was one of the coldest weeks we made use of the extra blankets in the lounge.Bed was comfy, the views from the front onto the river are great, and once you get a good fire going, its a lovely cosy place. The pub in the village - Eagle & Child - (about a 1.8 mile walk along the river bank) serves a lovely Sunday lunch. The walk itself was a little tricky, if you have any kind of mobility issues you wouldn't want to go this way.Its a dog friendly cottage, however all capets are cream and the tiled kitchen is white! Mud/snow and a rotti dog does not make for a white/cream flooring! We had the mop and hoover out more times than I care to remember. Also asks for dogs not to go upstairs, but no gate or anything available to stop such actions. We would go back to this cottage again, its a lovely place to switch off and relax. No phone signal, but they do have wifi."

"The coach house was a good size for 2 people maybe + 2 children but not 4 adults, it was very clean if a bit dated. It had everything you needed to enjoy a self catering break in a quieting location, the only negative was the curtains allowed too much light into the bedroom at night which meant as we had very good weather the sun was up very early streaming into the room, but apart from this it was comfortable. You could hear the road traffic at night. We were left to our own devices by the Host once he had explained the operation of the cottage which was great even though they lived next door. It is a great base to explore the lake district with all that it has to offer, you have easy access to shops during your stay with a Morrison's & Aldi 1.5 miles down the road, parking was good maybe a bit thought for a car but we were on a mot o recycle tour so no problem. The views were fantastic looking out over the mountains of Scarfel & Helvelyn, there is garden to use with loungers. On the whole a very nice place to stay."

"Oh my word! What a fabulous time we all had at whitefoot lodge. The owners are the most kind welcoming people we ever had the pleasure to meet. They welcomed us into their home, nothing was too much trouble! The lodge is a hidden magical place 10 minutes from Lake Windermere. At the bottom of their land is a little river with amazing views, the kids and dog spent hours playing there and we didn't spend a penny! The lodge is beautiful, clean and relaxing. It has more amenities than my home! We never stay in the same place twice, but we will never stay anywhere else when visiting the Lake District! A wonderful magical place to create memories for my kids! A hidden gem, we are lucky to have found whitefoot lodge. Memories and friends to cherish forever x"

"The cottage is amazing, well equipped, super comfortable and the location is so tranquil right on the Dales way. So you might be wondering why the poor review?Well on Monday of our stay at just before 8am we were awoken by really noisy building works next door.It transpired that next door was undergoing significant renovation works which continued throughout our stay. This encompassed being awoken early, builders back &forth meaning limited pricacy, vans parked obscuring view of lake and blocking driveway.I would fully expect it will be continue until the latter part of 2018 if not longer, so beware if you are looking to book.In the end after quite a bit of disruption to our stay our complaint was handled satisfactorily by the booking agent."
