"We had the most wonderful time at the Cosy Cakery. The owner was very friendly and showed us around - everything was ready for us.The welcome pack of scones, jam and clotted cream along with some scrumpy and milk in the fridge was lovely. The cottage was spotless and we had everything we could want and more - even tea bags and coffee were already there. The beds were comfy and the shower refreshing. There was plenty of room for four of us and the conservatory was a lovely place to sit in the morning or evening. Our children loved the big garden with plenty of room to play badminton and it had easy access to the drive to take bodyboards and wetsuits straight into the garden to dry. While the location was in the countryside and felt quiet, it was still not far to get into Bude town centre or to Morrisons for some groceries. We recommend a walk along the cycle track or canal towpath into Bude in the evening. It was only a mile each way and helped work off a meal or drink in the pub. I also used it as a short circuit for running. We loved Crooklets Beach and Widemouth Bay (best for bodyboarding) and both were an easy drive from the Cosy Cakery. We had very high hopes for the Cosy Cakery and these were surpassed. We had a fabulous week there and would definitely return to the Cosy Cakery when we holiday in Bude again."

"The pool wasn’t well laid out with where the step was to get in very awkward, was smaller than expected, nowhere to shower after getting out without having to go through the house and upstairs to the showers, wet room was like a hospital bathroom,so clinical no character or homelyness in it whatsoever, the other shower was good apart from the fact there was only a shower curtain instead of door for shower, curtain constantly gets stuck on you and also the floor ended up like a pool from this, bedrooms again lacked any homely feel, all felt a bit old people’s home on the upper floor, downstairs was much better however living room area is nowhere near large enough for the 6 people the house holds, the kitchen was great, a great size with all the mid cons and utensils you could wish for to be able to cook, the pool table was great to have, the dart board had no darts so couldn’t use, we did find the property a little child unfriendly because of things that could be touched or opened with wires etc, the whole place was a little tired and in need of some tlc, the property is quite overlooked too, and unfortunately we wouldn’t return to this property again. The owner left a fabulous welcome hamper which we were completely taken aback by and was hugely thankful for it was a wonderful thought and greatly received"

"The house is wheelchair friendly, not disabled friendly. Back twin bedroom is very noisy due to pool circulating pump vibrating and humming 24/7 we didn't use it in 2 weeks. Be careful when sitting on beds as they move immediately due to castors/flooring. Swimming pool has no handholds for anyone entering from the steps end (very, very close to wall) you must have good balance. There is no moveable garden furniture only a picnic style benches/table (fixed). Unfortunately, the sitting room furniture is one settee and small if six people using and not particularly comfort and low for disabled persons. TV has be rather loud to overcome the noise of the poor circulating pump. The swimming pool hoist is wonderful and the pool temperature is lovely and warm and the kitchen set up is great. Martyn the owner is great and could not be more helpful. We understand the pool pump is to be replaced sometime this year.We had a reasonable two weeks which could have been better especially without annoying constant pool pump noise/vibration. Remember to take the front door key with you, because if there is a power cut you can't regain access to the house without it (electronic door entry system) ."

"Another fantastic week at The Shippen! This was about the fifteenth year that we’ve been going there and it never fails to completely delight! It’s beautiful accommodation in a wonderfully peaceful countryside location but only a short but beautiful drive from the glorious 5own of Bude. The hosts, Pam and Andrew can’t do enough to make your stay a perfect one and the cream tea that they provide soon after arrival is a great way to start to relax. Each year they seem to have done yet more things to continually improve the accommodation. With games, books and satellite and a log burning fire if you need it tv there is everything there to help you enjoy the evenings after wonderful walks in the countryside or along the cliff tops. We can’t wait to return for another visit later this year!"

"it would have been nice to have a washing machine in the cottage and not have to work around a few machines shared with others and a suspected laundry business, the oven seal has gone making cooking difficult , a number of other issues that were annoying but we could not keep complaining and waiting in for someone to come and sort them. The play area looks good in the photo but had seen better days and was in desperate need of a refurbish, the carpets were very stained when we arrived but this was expected having light coloured carpets in a dog friendly cottage with the british weather. The cottage lacked something that made it cosy or it could have just been a snowball of little issues with the dark cloud of the weather, we will not be rushing back."
