"We stayed here the second week in September and it was a perfect place for a chilled out holiday. We were a group of 7, 6 humans (adults) and a dog, and we all loved it. The cottage is very spacious (having an en-suite, a bathroom and a shower room meant not having to schedule bathroom usage), well decorated and clean, the bedding and towels were super fresh. Although the house is old it is also very well equipped with all mod cons. Wifi is available and worked well in most parts of the house. There is a big range oven and hob, dishwasher, washing machine, a tumble dryer, a microwave, a bean to cup coffee machine (which will also take ground coffee), a couple of cafetières and plenty of crockery and cutlery and even dog bowls were provided. It's in a lovely secluded spot, with a bubbling beck which can be heard from the cottage and a great outdoor space with a barbecue and a chiminea so you can make the most of the milder nights even coming into autumn. We did 2 walks straight from the house which were super, we didn't meet a soul on either of these walks and the views were fabulous. We also drove out to Conniston, Ulverston and Ravenglass none of which were far away.Ruth was always on hand if we had any questions and had left us a welcome pack with bread, milk and biscuits and there was also kindling and firewood for the wood burners (there are two rooms with working wood burners). We had a Tesco delivery (they were the only ones who delivered there in Sept. 2019) ordered for an hour after we arrived and this turned up promptly and saved us carting too much stuff with us.At the risk of stating the obvious - the whole of our party would highly recommend this cottage! We didn't want to leave it and we will definitely be back :-)"

"We liked the cottage very much. It was very well equiped and comfortable. We booked very last minute after minimal research, so with hind-sight, we would have booked a place with a fire/stove, in early January. We were told it was near St Bees, when actually it is next to Sellafield, which might bother some people. We took our 2 small dogs, and if there is a down-side to the cottage, it is that the living space is very small. [The bedroom is ample]. With 2 dog beds in the living room there wasn't much room to move about! The space in the cottage has been very cleverly used, so there isn't a solution to this! The directions to find the place would have been very annoying if we had followed them from Kirkby Stephen. If you are coming from the north or north-east, it is surely better to follow the A66 to Cockermouth, and then go south down the west coast. Sorry not to fill in all the rest, but I can't do the photo thing and as a Welcome Cottage owner myself , I find it difficult to score things out of 10! I find I can't submit without an overall score. Please attach no significance to this number as it depends on what you think of as 'excellent', and for whom."

"Great holiday cottage and location. The beach is 10 min walk away and is pebbles at the top, then sand after 20+ meters. We walked for a good hour and only saw 4 other people during that time. We tried the pub (1 min walk) a couple of nights and had a good meal, would eat there again. All roads were quiet and it was easy to get around the Lakes. Highly recommend a visit to Eskdale and Wast Water - much quieter than the usual tourist hot spots further away.Comfort and equipmentThe mattress was truly dreadful; probably the worst I've slept on during my 49 years of life. It was so bad, we had to come home a night early so we could get some sleep. If the mattress were replaced, I'd definitely score a "9".Local amenitiesThere are no shops or any facilities in Silecroft apart from the 1 pub. Nearest shops we could find were in Bootle (shuts at 5.30pm) and Millom.Overall, I'd recommend this cottage if the mattress is replaced."

"It was in a beautiful rural location, very peaceful and quiet, it was a very relaxing stay. We loved the wood burner, some of the logs were a bit big, which needed to be cut down in order to fit into the stove. There wasn't any kindling, so my husband had to chop kindling from the firewood. It would also have been handy if there was more toilet paper. Overall, it was a great stay, it is very rustic and it is in a rural location, so you will need to take some food items with you, so you have some supplies, as the nearest shop with minimal supplies is in Ulpha (Post Office) which is about a 15 minute drive. Be aware that there are 4 gates to open and close before you get to the cottage, this was ok for us, but may not appeal to others. Be aware the water is supplied from the local fells and it is filtered, but does come out in a yellowish colour, which could be off-putting for some, especially when using it for bathing."

"A very comfortable cottage with a large pretty garden. Plenty of room for two couples with one toddler and a dog. Great position for the southern lakes with plenty of dog friendly pubs and shops around, though not in walking distance. The cottage is well appointed and clean. The only thing to be aware of is an un-fenced river at the bottom of the garden and no fence between the cottage garden and Sunny Beck’s next door. This in no way spoiled the holiday but did mean constant chasing after the toddler and dog. With this in mind it’s probably better for adults as there is also currently no cot or high chair available which whilst not really a problem, does mean packing two additional bulky items.Having said all that, I would highly recommend Riverside Cottage because for us, the positives heavily outweigh the minor inconveniences."
