"Nice and clean, rustic old cottage, with a lovely garden out the back which we couldn't use cause of the rain unfortunelty. Also at the time there appeared to be quite a few spiders around the property, as it was the time of year / season for them, which there is nothing you could do about that.Nice pleasant views And the bedroom was a nice size. The bathroom could do with being updated as was looking a bit tatty, but it was fine and most importantly clean. Friendly owners and in a pleasant country side / rural location near the coast. The cottage isn't right in the centre of the Lake District national park, however it was within good driving distance to Keswick about 20 minutes ish and the northern lakes. We like grasmere so drove there a few times took about 50 minutes. It's also about a 10/15 minutes drive to maryport on the coast, not a lot there. Cockermouth town centre seems nice, however we found it difficult to find parking as you need to go in and get a permit from one of the shops I assume? so we didn't really get out and explore. The cottage was dog friendly which was good. We tried to have a meal at the ship pub which is opposite the cottage. However they don't allow dogs in (who doesn't allow dogs in a pub in the lakes!) so had to go and get a takeaway from the Indian restaurant in cockermouth centre, which was very nice. A good stay for the price would recommend."

"We loved staying at the Croft House Barn and generally the accommodation was good. However, there could be simple changes made to make it excellent. For example, the bed linen, quilts and towels were all very tired and worn. A simple upgrade of this would improve the look and feel of the property. Loved the unique set-up of the Barn and it met the needs of our mixed group who all loved it's quirkiness and open-plan living space. The views out the back were also fantastic. A more thorough clean of the property could go a long way. When we arrived a bunch of plates were filthy (and placed on the clean pile). There was damp in the downstairs bathroom floor under the lino and just lots of bits and pieces amiss, which were a bit beyond what you would hope for (even taking into account the age and type of property). Overall, great, good location for a one-off (we'd probably go closer to Keswick next time as we had to use the car every day and couldn't find the river walk to Cockermouth). Some work and modernising could raise this property from good to exceptional."

"A good little cottage with all the basics required for a stay. Some of the eclectic furniture is a little passed its best, but the cottage overall is very clean, tidy, warm and welcoming. Lashings of hot water which is just what you need after a hard day walking. Excellent location just outside Cockermouth - able to access all areas with relative ease. Owners friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Very friendly cat!(I like cats). Overall I really enjoyed my stay, would certainly come back again and recommend to others. Perhaps needs a little TLC now to keep up the standard, some of the furniture is passed its best and just those extra touches would move it into the excellent bracket. March 2011."

"Beautiful cottage with all mod cons and best of all wood burning stove. Plenty of wood for the burning of and decent Wi-Fi too. Quiet area. No local shops but cockermouth is a short drive away. Also maryport. Keswick is best for gift shopping. Workington is good for general shopping and amenities. Carlisle is worth an hours drive as is Windermere. Scafell pike is good for walkers. Loads more towns and villages within an hours drive from the cottage too many to visit in just a week. Love the lakes. Hosts were nice and helpful and live next door. Not intrusive though. When we return to the lakes this will be our first choice cottage. Hopefully it will be available!"

"Our stay at Croft house barn was absolutely fantastic. Well over our expectations based on the online photos beforehand. The place has a huge lounge dining area upstairs with old wooden beams on show and direct access to the large garden area. The views are amazing from the house and the village is small but cosy. We walked into cockermouth which took around 1.5 hours although we found out after the riverside walk is much better than the main road. The taxi back was only 7minutes! I highly recommend this holiday cottage! The place is completely private and has many different areas within the house to spend time away from others."
