    About this property

Set in the traditional Yorkshire village of Hutton-le-Hole this ground floor converted stable provides homely accommodation just 3½ miles from Kirkbymoorside.
Heather Cottage is one of three cottages which are set in the heart of the picturesque North Yorkshire village of Hutton-le-Hole, famous for its meandering beck, old stone cottages and expanse of common land which is kept well-manicured by the resident sheep. The cottage provides the ideal base for walking, cycling, touring and exploring the moors, coast, vale and dale. It has been sympathetically converted from old farm buildings to offer cosy, home from home accommodation. From the doorstep visitors can enjoy the popular Ryedale Folk Museum, tearooms, craft shops, galleries and the village’s own chocolate factory. The well-established village pub offers a warm welcome and a menu of hearty home-cooked meals. Cyclists are very welcome and there is ample storage for bikes and equipment at the property. There are many cycling trails in Dalby Forest which is just a 20-minute drive away. Walkers are well catered for with fabulous, scenic walking on the doorstep. On-site there is a shared utility room where boots and outdoor clothing can be dried and stored. Visit Pickering (9 miles) and board the famous steam train for a stunning trip through the North York Moors to the fishing port of Whitby. Enjoy the quaint market towns of Kirkbymoorside and Helmsley with their delightful selection of shops, restaurants and inns alongside attractions including the Centre for Birds of Prey and the Walled Garden. The Arts Centre in Helmsley offers a broad range of theatre, music, cinema and exhibitions and throughout the summer months the outdoor swimming pool is popular with children. Historic houses can be found at Castle Howard and Nunnington Hall and there are abbey ruins at Rievaulx and Byland. Family fun can be found at Flamingo Land and Go Ape and there are miles of sandy beaches at the traditional seaside resorts of Scarborough, Whitby and Filey. The ancient city of York is just an hour’s drive. Shop 3½ miles, pub and restaurant 50 yards.
Heather Cottage can be booked together with Byre Cottage (UK2165) and Moorland Cottage (UK2164) to accommodate up to 12 guests.

"Well equipped cottage in a good location. However a couple of items needed maintenance!"

"Had a brilliant holiday. Cottage is lovely. Location is amazing. Used it as a base to discover both the Yorkshire moors, local villages, towns and coast."

"A well equipped comfortable cottage that we would be happy to return to"
    Geoffrey and Olga ‐ 30 Jun 2018
"We had a lovely holiday and enjoyed the cottage very much , however as my husband and myself are elderly and I am disabled we found the lounge furniture rather low and diffiicult to get out of. We appreciated the efforts that had been made in the bathroom - the sink was at a height suitable for use by someone in a wheelchair but we would have benefitted from a walk-in shower as we could not get into the bath to use the shower. The toilet had a support arm at the side and the this was a great help - I did take my own toilet seat to place on the toilet to raise the height. We are not complaining but thought you would appreciate our comments to maybe help others. My son was very impressed with the cottage."

"Really nice cottage in a lovely village. Although very clean and well equipped the toilet bath and shower were situated immediatley off the living room and had a sliding door that did not fit properly. We found this very disconcerting. We enjoyed the village and would recommend the barn tea rooms for lunch and a cuppa."

"A really lovely spot, a warm and well-decorated cottage. The boot room idea was great. The welcome provisions and kitchen setup was very good.My only comments would be1- the shower was rather feeble and it was difficult not to get water on the floor (but it was nice to have a bath)2- the double bed was very comfortable but my husband being very tall found the footboard a bit of a nuisance3- When I was booking, I searched for a place with a woodburner/open fire and hadn't noticed that this cottage had an electric woodburner. Not quite the same thing!"

"This is he best cottage we have stayed in by far and the second time we've been here. It is very peaceful and relaxing and ideal if you have dogs as there is an enclosed paddock to exercise them in. The cottage has everything you need and equipment, bedding, towels etc are very good quality. Everywhere is spotlessly clean, neat and tidy. The village is lovely with a pub, chocolate factory, craft shops ,tea rooms and The Ryedale Folk Museaum which is well worth a visit and is a nice walk to Kirbymoorside. Pickering and Helmsley is a short ride away and Whitby is a 40 minute drive over the lovely moors. Scarborough is also quite nearby and the cottage would be an ideal base if visiting Flamiingo Land. I would not hesitate to recommend this cottage and already some of our friends have booked it. I will be going again but as it's just me and my husband works out a bit expensive but very worth it. Have paid less but had not had such a pleasant experience. It's just great."
