What our customers say about their holidays

    • Amanda - Verified booking

      Nice big property with amenities.

Everything we needed, including lovely linen and towels. I was very glad to see these are now provided. Good location and nice to have a garden. Parking difficult on driveway due to raised kerb and driveway ledge - when we tried to park on this to keep the cul-de-sac clear, the car grounded on the driveway and so had to park on the road. Neighbours were very understanding and accepting thankfully. There is confusion with regard to information for this property - Sykes Cottages give different details to the John Bray holiday let company, who also appear to look after the property e.g. whether there is linen/ towels available and the time of departure on the final day i.e. Sykes state 9.30am and information in the Cottage from Bray states 9.00am. Information needs to be made consistent to avoid worry and confusion; I was worried the time prior to our holiday and journey down as to whether we would arrive and there would be no linen provided due to the confused information. We would also comment that we had felt the Sykes 9.30 departure was early and so even more suprised to see the Bray information stating a 9.00am departure. This is a very early departure for the final day; we rent holiday accommodation frequently and the departure time is usually a far more reasonable 10.00am. The information states this is to meet Covid regulations, but we do feel this is no longer a valid reasoning. Pre-covid procedures for cleaning should have been at a standard where a 10.00 am departure and 4.00pm arrival is adequate time for property preparation.

Unfortunately, we felt very disappointed with the stay and left after 5 nights in the property, having paid for 7.

We drove 7hours to get to the property and having stayed in many local self-catering homes within Port Issac, found it a shame that a welcome package was not offered, as all of the other properties we had stayed in offered one, that were also self-catering. On arrival, we were shocked to find that the cul-de-sac, the property dwelled within, was not as aesthetically pleasing, as we'd been led to believe and realised now, this is why you cannot see pictures of the front of the property. For us, it felt like a set of caravan esc homes than many other homes listed within the area. For the extremely high cost to rent the property for a week (July), we were not informed that this particular cul-de-sac housed a large collection of seagulls, which are protected animals. Thus realising during our stay that they housed themselves on the roof of the property. The noise of the constant squawk (day and night) along with the movement on the roof meant we managed very little sleep and therefore decided to vacate the property earlier than we had planned. Not forgetting, your car will be destroyed by the seagulls excrement. Positives for this property are that it has been done up well inside by the owner and was mostly clean throughout. The car parking space was small and directly outside the property, meaning that you saw your car outside the front windows but this did not bother us as much as the seagulls did. We therefore would not recommend this property and would not stay ourselves in this property again.

The cottage is very well fitted out and has good facilities - especially if it is for two people visiting.

It is decorated to a very high standard. Its position makes access to the centre of Port Isaac very easy. Parking is not that easy unless you have a very small car. Some thoughts for improvements: a recycling bin in the kitchen - There is only one bin, which means that everything goes into it. Whilst there is a recycling bin outside, it makes life too difficult to separate and keep piles of rubbish in the kitchen ; Despite there being comments on the listing previously about the lack of information with regards the heating and water heating, there is still no information available. When we were on our break, it was cold and we needed to turn heating on and up. This proved very frustrating. Also, the hot water tank is quite small, especially if there were four people staying in the cottage ; No Cafetière - This would be a useful addition ; The time of access and departure does make it quite frustrating. Only being allowed into the cottage at 4 o’clock on the day of booking means that you cannot make best use of the facilities and area. And having to leave at 9 am makes it a very rushed departure. Given that these conditions were probably brought in during Covid, as a holiday management team, you should look at these timings. We would not book a cottage again with such restrictive access. Thank you.

We were extremely disappointed when we arrived at the property, it was filthy.

There were old cobwebs all around the doorframe and key safe, upon entering the property we were greeted with a musty smell and we were disgusted to find trodden in crisps still in the carpet of the twin bedroom, dust in the kitchen and chewing gum stuck on the bunk beds. After spending an hour cleaning it, we were able to unpack and settle in. This is when we discovered the broken shower. The property is advertised as having a shower over the bath, however this is a shower head attached to the tap, with a broken holder. You are not able to stand to take a shower or use it due to it being broken. The property is in some dire neeed of modernization and general upkeep. The kitchen does however have a good stock of equipment and the washing machine is very handy. After reporting these issues to Sykes, I was called by an agent who offered to send a cleaner which would have been useless as I had already cleaned up the mess. I was also asked if I would have been happy for the shower to be fixed to which we agreed, however this did not materialize due to waiting for a part. This problem could have easily been fixed by a trip to Screwfix!! The location of this property is it's saving grace. It is a short walk down into Port Isaac and is a good base for exploring the surrounding area.
