What our customers say about their holidays

    • Phil - Verified booking

The lodge was very comfortable and well equipped, although the patio furniture is now looking a little worn.

The main reason we booked this lodge over others is that the photos showed it to be in a nice, private and secluded spot next to a line of trees providing shade, only to find on arrival that it had been moved to a less-private and hilly spot. Not happy at all and Sykes have been extremely dismissive about this, saying that they sent me an email in April - 4 months prior to notify me of the move (it's now August). I did not receive any such email. Further to this, Sykes are still advertising the lodge as though it is in its former tree-lined location! They will no doubt come back and say the previous location easily became flooded, but in a hot August this was not an issue for us. Then there was a problem with the wifi connection to my laptop. The wifi itself worked well as we connected all 3 phones, and an ipad with no problem, but I needed the owner's permission to speak with the wifi company to set up my laptop, only for Sykes to reply that the owner had stated that no-one else had had this problem, basically saying 'Tough - get on with it!' Not what I was expecting to hear. As I could not connect in order to attend to some urgent work we had to come home a day early. Overall not happy and feeling let down.

Had a lovely stay at the Nail Shed celebrating our wedding anniversary.

We were impressed with the facilities. The underfloor heating throughout was lovely. The kitchen was well stocked and the cottage is beautifully furnished. The owners were welcoming and we enjoyed our welcome drinks in the Anvil Inn adjacent to the property. We ate there on both nights of our stay and have to say the fillet steaks were delicious and cooked to perfection. The pub has a cosy feel to it with wood burning stoves in each room. We travelled with our dog and the owner was helpful in suggesting local walks. We visited Cayton Bay which was a beautiful unspoilt stretch of sand for him to run around on. If I was to provide any constructive criticism it would be that the hanging area in the wardrobes could do with being a little higher and I also think the listing could be expanded to include things like hairdryer, tea, coffee provided as these were things I packed unnecessarily as I couldn’t be sure from the listing. I also think as it’s a pet friendly cottage, the provision of dog bowls for food and water might be welcome (I forgot to pack these but have found them provided previously!). Very minor niggles but all in all a wonderful stay.

Finch 59 is a lovely lodge with quality fixtures & fittings.

It is on a nice pitch over looking an attractive central grassed area. This lodge was previously on pitch 15 across the road next to the trees & is now on a raised pitch 59 - hopefully this resolves other guests confusion. There isn't a number on the lodge but can be easily found by following the numbers on adjacent lodges plus its grey not white. Finch 59 is on your right. Finch 15 is on the left. During our stay I reported a few maintenence issue that were not detrimental to our stay but if not reported the lodge will deteriate. 1. Washing machine comes on but does not fill with water assume door not activating machine due to being integrated. 2. Living room door, twin bedroom door & patio door need adjusting. 3. Key box difficult to close & catches your fingers. 4. Some gutters leaking. Flooding - Pitch 15 & surrounding lodges under water due to severe weather - so yes it does flood in this area. All issues reported to Sykes via telephone & Whatsapps. However this is not a complaint as the lodge is lovely & the park has many facilities. Would stay again in the future.

We have been trusting our cottage bookings with Sykes for our holidays now for over 8 years.

We had another great stay in Brinkburn Cottage. We spent Christmas in this warm cosy accommodation. The Christmas tree was lovely and the hello hamper including gifts for us all, treats for our fur-kid and chopped fire wood made for a very warm welcome. I prepared Christmas dinner at home and there was more than sufficient kitchen equipment. Burniston has 2 great pubs to the right of the cottage and 2 great pubs to the left both less than 10 minutes walk. The ones to the left have great food tested (excellent pies!) and are very welcoming of dogs in specific areas so book to avoid disappointment. The walk on the cinder path (old railway track) via Station Road 6 minutes walk from the cottage or 2 minutes in the car leads to a beautiful path to walk children, dogs or cycle any time of year and joins villages and/or local interest points along the way. Our wintery welly visits into Scarborough (North Bay from Scalby Mills), Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay will be memorable. Thank you for making our Christmas this year really special.

Finch 59 is a beautiful, very well equiped , super comfortable caravan with excellent facilities.

Everything you need for a fab holiday. It is a perfect base for exploring the East Coast, with great facilities on site too. It is situated in a quiet area of the site, which we loved. Lots of Information left by the owners, and a few essentials, eg wash up liquid and kitchen roll. The caravan was very clean, the only slight niggle id being really picky was the cooker hob hadn't been cleaned properly and there was black dog hair on the front corners of both settees. There was also a damaged cupboard door and one of the fridge shelves had been broken. We would have thought the cleaning company would have picked up on them, and left us a note, saying they were aware. We're sure the owners pay alot of money to have it cleaned. We phoned Sykes to report, and they contacted the owners who arranged to sort the next day. This was excellent service, and didn't cause us a problem. We would highly recommend staying at Finch 59.
