We were very disappointed with the cottage; having stayed at many Sykes cottages this was the worst.
The owner John was very welcoming and helpful but the whole cottage is 'tired' The settee and mattress are saggy and need replacing. The cottage felt damp (john was having trouble with the storage heaters and provided 2 very efficient fan heaters which seemed to warm the air but not the fabric of the building - the situation improved as the week went on as we turned the heating up and opened the windows. The bed linen was fine but the heavy cover on the bed smelt sour. The kitchen was small but well equipped (one small grouse - could an extra 2 mugs be provided?) but to say the cottage had a dining space, while true, is misleading, 2 small chairs and a table not much bigger than a skateboard! The bathroom was tiny, only just big enough to function. The 'courtyard garden' was a narrow space down the side of the cottage which didn't get any sun and was therefore dark and damp, not the open area shown on the photo. Rescorla is not a village, it is a street with houses on it - no pub, no shop, these are in Penwithick, a good mile away. And finally the 'off street parking' was on such a steep slope that we scraped the bottom of the car each time we parked, and judging by the marks on the ground we weren't the first. Thank goodness we had fine, sunny weather and were able to get out each day! We didn't mention most of this to John as a) nothing could be done about most things and b) he was so pleasant we didn't want to upset him about things he couldn't change.

Badgers Sett was exactly as advertised, a comfortable barn conversion cottage with all possible amenities.
Situated on a working farm, it was set in gorgeous moorland countryside and was a welcome peaceful retreat from the busy beaches we visited. The WiFi was good, an essential requirement for my 16 year old daughter, the water supply is from a borehole which, as described in the welcome pack, was some of the best Iâve tasted. The water did have lower water pressure than Iâm used to but there was always hot water for showers and washing up without having to put the immersion heater on. I used the shared laundry as we were on the beach every day and swimming costumes and towels needed washing and drying - the tumble dryer is awesome and dried towels within 45 minutes!! Being on a working farm you will hear the farm animals â¦. The chickens wake early but can only really be heard from the single room at the back of the property. However, as compensation, you are also treated to seeing birds of prey, and as we visited during August, various nesting birds and baby rabbits. Google maps get you straight to the property if you enter âHelman Tor Cottagesâ and itâs in very easy access to the Eden Project and both the north and south Cornish coasts. Jenny, the cottage host, was lovely and accessible if needed. We had a great time and will definitely look to stay here again the next time we are in Cornwall.

Just stayed here for a week.
There was a few problems on arrival: 1: there was cobwebs and spiders in the bedroom, bathroom and living kitchen area 2: ants on the floor in the kitchen area 3: the patio area was very over grown (nothing like the pictures shown) 4: there is a cat which is not mentioned in the description. (Our dog doesn't like cats) When we knocked on the door and mentioned these problems to the owner we were told the patio area is a wildlife one and the weeds are too much to maintain, there shouldn't be cobwebs as she had just spent three hours cleaning the property, the birds like eating the ants and she couldn't do much about the cat other than say he doesn't go in the patio area so wouldn't be a problem. ( The cat does go in the patio area as we found out one morning when we took out dog in luckily on a lead) The owner could tell we wasn't happy and went and got the hoover to suck the cobwebs up, put any powder down outside and starting trimming the over grown patio area. The owner also said over the weekend her husband would mow to make a path for us, it never got done. We couldn't sit outside or let our dog off the lead due to it being so over grown or our dog chasing the cat. One thing about the description that is right is it's in a good location, easy access to crantock beach and fistral beach.

Trailside is a cosy cottage sleeping 4 just off the camel trail. Its in a great location for a 2 mile stroll or bike ride into Padstow, or a longer trek in the other direction to Wadebridge. A nice touch was to be left some cornish team, coffee and buscuits. The cottage has a spiral stair case and you definitely have to mind your head when entering the hobbit sized door into the loft bedroom. If you are an adult, using the upstairs toilet standing up is challenging due to the low ceiling. Even with good lighting and reminders be prepared to bump your head :) So you will need to keep a close eye on small children and I would not recommend it for anyone less mobile. Generally its well kitted out with a respectable Kitchen and downstairs bathroom but some of the fixtures and fittings are a bit tired. Lack of tumble dryer is probably less of an issue in summer months, but don’t forget to bring your own hair dryer as the cottage does not provide one for your use. If you want to go off grid its a good option as the internet is 1.3mbps making browsing the web difficult if not impossible. You can’t stream anything. Again, with children no internet is a problem. (I think the owner is improving this)

Finding the place was a tad tricky, I suggest a better full description on how to find it should be sent to any would be renter .
All in all the place was quiet and remote, with good views ,a good thing! However the experience could have been so much better with a few small considerations. Ok the wifi was not working 75% of the time and it wasnât for the owners fault ,not massive for us but still not as advertised . The eating of meals was awkward due to the breakfast bar height and the stools provided were very uncomfortable and precarious, especially for elderly! We managed but again not ideal for dinner time. Also the bathroom smelled on occasion akin to drainage problems, needs attention, coming from overflow on bath I think. The Velux windows were tricky to open and close, the correct pole would work better . One last groan! The Helmand tor is a beautiful spot only a very short distance from the farm house and cottages but the foot path is a mile and a half walk! Surely a permissive path could be arranged by the owner! It would really make all the difference for walks locally. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay in badgers whatâs it.
