About this property

The Old Engine House is located in a peaceful smallholding near the tiny hamlet of Tretoil on the edge of Bodmin Moor. Surrounded by reminders of Cornwall’s ancient mining heritage, this comfortable cottage, converted from an old engine house, is ideal for couples. Watch out for Fred, the friendly owners’ soppy dog – the owners live next door and provide home-produced pork! On the ground floor is a cosy living room with wood burning stove, well-equipped kitchen and snug dining room for romantic suppers. Spruce up in the smart ground floor shower room before retiring to the double bedroom on the first floor.

From the kitchen there’s a door to the simple garden with raised decking, ideal for evening sundowners. Explore historic Bodmin with its infamous gaol and interesting shops or hire a bike and visit nearby Lanhydrock House. Fine, sandy beaches are just a short drive away at Carlyon bay and Padstow. A fascinating place for couples who enjoy walking, cycling or golf and ideally placed for exploring the whole of Cornwall.

Bodmin, the one-time County Town of Cornwall with its narrow streets, shops and pubs, is perfectly placed for exploring all that this fabulous holiday area has to offer.

Property full of character, loved the woodburner. Thanks for the provisions left on arrival.

It is a really super little cottage, comfy, well equipped and spotlessly clean. Robin and his dog Fred were very friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble.

It is quiet and secluded and has a fabulous enclosed garden that the dogs could run around (and chase rabbits!) in. Robin and resident dog Fred were both very welcoming and Robin had left us with a supply of tea, coffee, biscuits and milk. There is a gorgeous wood burner that we used most nights and Robin was kind enough to supply us with the kindling when we ran out, the logs are all stacked in log stores ready to use. The location of the property to access dog friendly beaches etc was very good. We will definitely be back in the future
