"I thought I couldn’t experience the Lake District without being super fit, experienced in survival or being in herds of tourists like ourselves but here you are situated right among it without effort and it’s all to yourselves. From Broughton in Furness the 3 miles to the cottage passes by a river, bracken hillsides, Herdwick sheep camouflaged amongst the crags. Then you see the cottage down the track surrounded by numerous crags, over the babbling beck - it’s heartwarming. Rain it might but the large Arga and stove keep the house cosy, a good book or game day and the internet is better than expected. Bring food initially and then Broughton has a top notch butchers for that slow roast in your oven and a grocers next door. Pub meals are good in Broughton. Theres a pretty garden at the back so you know where the kids/dogs are or they can play being in the land of Mordor, with sheep, it’s not unlike it. Recommend sensible slippers for the wooden staircase but there is rails and a stair gate at the top. The owners ensured our bed was the height of comfort by fitting a new mattress topper after I raised a concern from a previous review. Bath and shower great and downstairs loo so there’s no banging on the door. If you are uncertain about this holiday home don’t be, if you appreciate the peace and the real world formed by nature, this is it, it’s a door to explore Eskdale and further with sense, sometimes you can be reminded the elements are in charge here, prepare navigation well, we combined good old paper maps with mobile apps!"

"Stayed In haverigg many times but this was the first time in this cottage.i know no one had been in the cottage for a few weeks prior to our stay so was very disappointed when we arrived to a very cold cottage after a long drive. We couldn’t work out the heating system so rang the caretaker who told us how to put it on. She said she couldn’t make it to the cottage that morning and had asked someone else to do it which obviously they hadn’t. The beds were clean but that was about it no where had really been cleaned which to me it should have been spotless as no one had been in before us, we had to buy a new dish cloth as the one left was filthy and smelt. This was the first cottage we’ve stayed in with no welcome pack, to be fair just a small bottle of milk in the fridge would have been gratefully received to make a drink their was coffee tea and sugar( not sure how long it had been their sugar was rock hard) I no these are probably small picky things but a clean welcoming cottage makes your holiday. This cottage could make a lovely holiday cottage if it is looked after properly and maintained. The area is lovely not much to do in the village but for us it’s perfect, beach right on the door which was a great hit for the dog, a chippy close by and a small shop. It’s also a great base to travel round the lakes with great opportunities to see the views"

"Great farmhouse conversion into a 'farm' cottage with comfortable and good-sized bedrooms. Number of en-suites and separate bathroom great for families. Very well designed and equipped kitchen and living area with large and comfortable dining area attached. Location fine for us near to coast and short drives to Coniston and up to Ravenglass area - no more than 45 minutes. Set in midst of sheep farming area but with dog on the lead at all times able to walk some interesting paths close to the cottage. Stone walls and effective gates meant dogs secure at the cottage too. Would suggest looking at re-cycling information - only seemed possible to recycle glass with tins etc and paper going into same general waste bin. No details about what should have gone into several light grey bins which always seemed to be empty ? Apart from this minor point a great cottage for a good number of adults and children to stay together. A large hot tub was cleaned and serviced every day."

"We stayed here as part of a family holiday & having both cottages worked brilliantly. Especially having the golf course. They only reason I marked lower for comfort is because I found the double bed in Yew Tree cottage too firm for me and therefore uncomfortable. However I have rheumatoid arthritis so it is a very presonal thing to every individuals preference. Others will find it comfortable I'm sure. It wouldn't prevent us from returning to the cottage. I would simply sleep in a different bed. It is a lovely well equipped cottage. Lots of character. Great shower. Great bath. Lots of room. Lovely surroundings and plenty to do. Our weather was a bit challenging so we didn't allow us to walk or cycle as much as we'd have liked. Brilliant secure storage for bikes. All in all a lovely spot."

"Fabulous old cottage steeped in history with period furnishing, tons of character and with lots of room to relax. A great location to explore the lakes and West Cumbria.Only a couple of minor issues; Mobile signal is non existent within the thick cottage walls, although we were able to make calls from the upstairs front window seat, however the BT WiFi was great for messenger calls. The log fire in the lounge, although lovely & warming emits some smoke into the lounge, even with doors/windows open to create draft. The grate does not sit fully into the redesigned fireplace which is most likely the cause. These did not spoil our enjoyment and the family had a wonderful time in this lovely cottage."
