What our customers say about their holidays

    • Allen - Verified booking

Lovely cottage - the owner said they’d had many holidays there and that was what made a difference I think.

It felt cosy like a real “home” as soon as you walked in. The decor was not the cheap “make do and mend” that you often find - it was really nicely and tastefully done. The cottage was very well equipped and the owners had anticipated most of the needs of visitors. The welcome pack was very welcome. Thank you. The cottage was lovely and clean, very warm and comfortable. It has traditional features (including a few spooky creaks and groans. We swear we heard a young child say “Daddy” just outside the bedroom door one night….. we hid under the duvet) A couple of “even better if’s”: (1) the dishwasher didn’t work properly and after three washes we had to wash the pots by hand as they were not clean at all (2) maybe leave some washing up liquid and a couple of dishwasher tabs for the next visitors (we left dish cloths). (3) The property is very difficult to find. I couldn’t find it on Google Earth so texted for clarification a few days before we went. I did not get a reply. We couldn’t find it where the post code led us, so we scoured the streets - the locals in the pub hadn’t heard of it either. The contact numbers provided were all the same number and not answered (no signal in the village so had to drive a couple of miles out of the village till I could get a signal). At one point, we even considered having to return home or find a Premier Inn for the night. I don’t know if this will help future visitors but I took the “what three words” reference: ///stylist.recorders.signature Somehow, we did spot the cottage on what was our last attempt. Negatives aside, all in all a lovely visit to a lovely cottage in a beautiful village. Our third stay in Staithes and the best cottage so far. We will be back.

The cottage is well located in the old part of Staithes, very close to the harbour and local pub and shops.

It is very comfortably fitted out with all the amenities required for a pleasant, relaxing break. The kitchen is well equipped, sitting room comfortable and well furnished, although could do with having a curtain for the door window. The bathroom is very spacious with separate bath and shower cubicle. The bedrooms are good sizes too. Small negatives are the small bath towels (bath sheets would be great) and lack of wifi (the reason it didn't get top marks for facilities). Some may see this as a benefit though but with mobile phone reception being non-existent in Staithes apart from a limited area (by the harbour or at the top of the hill) it could be an issue. Otherwise a very pleasant cottage and worth another visit.

This is a really delightful cottage: cosy, homely, comfortable, well-equipped, eccentrically but very charmingly decorated with assorted bric-à-brac - not at all your average anonymous holiday property.

It’s in a quiet back lane just off the high street in Loftus: a handsome, friendly little town with good facilities (Co-op, nice cafes, takeaways - though it’s *such* a pity none of the five pubs appears to do food!) that benefits from an amazingly good half-hourly bus service to Saltburn & Middlesbrough in one direction and to Staithes & Whitby in the other: we came without a car and didn’t need one. There is great walking along the spectacular Cleveland coast and up into the North York Moors. The only real downside to the cottage is a lack of sound insulation: the two main bedrooms are separated only by a 1cm plasterboard partition, so that every word said in one can be heard in the other!

An old fashioned quite quirky house.

To my taste, stone flooring, wooden beams and curious ornaments. Although situation is close to the high Street, the house is set back and private, on a country lane. A nice bakery cafe called the ‘willow’ is walking distance and so are the local shops. Although the month is late September, I slept with the bedroom upper roof windows open, which was refreshing. There is a bench outside near the front door, it was nice to sit out with a glass of wine. Lots of near places to visit via car. The house is larger than I had anticipated, hence suitable for families. Two bedrooms near at one side and a other bedroom at the far side of the property. A fine experience and I would love to return.

From the moment we walked up the path till the moment we left, this property was not up to Sykes Cottages spec and we won't be using them again.

Path to cottage uneven and broken, stains all over the outside wall, dirty windows, open the door to hallway and the smell off damp, walls crumbling in lounge, fire not cleaned out, ashes not emptied, cobwebs everywhere, my wife cleaned the fridge, microwave, cooker and all the crockery as it was filthy. Furniture and furnishings are tired and dirty. Upstairs double uncomfortable and again the room smelt damp, bathroom, shower missing it's seal, Emerson heater cord has been broken so many time and knotted back together, toilet seat lose. The place was a lot of money, and did not live up to expectations, Staithes is a lovely place, but this cottage certainly took the shine off our New Year!
