Original Cottages are hard to contact - their "Chatline" has never been available on any of the several occasions that I have tried to use it. Their phone line is manned, always goes to "please hold" and tells me that they are busy dealing with other holiday queries..... based on our experience the queries will be complaints.... So... to "The Cottage" has good points, but in no particular order, we were very disappointed with : Garden furniture inadequate - more needed and needs cushions. If the BBQ was for our use, it was in appalling unusable rusty condition. A bathroom door lock should be a standard fitting in a cottage for 6. Door to the patio needs a handle & lock to work from outside, not just bolts inside- the gardener cut the grass during our stay, using a mower with no grass box - the grass gets walked everywhere without proper door control. A door mat should be at that second door to protect carpets. The oven was dirty and smoked when we tried to use it. Basic cleaning seemed ok until you looked into corners, shower room trims or behind the kitchen sink- really not great. Snail trails across the lounge carpet are not a good sign! Damp smell in the living room and down to the far double bedroom. Settee seating in the living room is for 4, not six. No information pack was supplied to help with house basics like bin days, gardener turning up unexpectedly ... and helpful local information like vets, doctors, dentist, A&E... and the good stuff like pub/restaurant/takeaway menus. A big bottle of handwash at the kitchen sink would be helpful and hygenic. Car parking for 2 cars statement was obviously aimed at smaller vehicles than ours.... cutting the tree back at the end of the drive would help to get boot access when 2 are squeezed in. "Unlimited WIFI" was a joke - it was limited by the poor maintenance of the system and the lack of boosters to serve the whole cottage. We had an engineer out on our 5th day who boosted speeds from 9.7 to 30mbs by replacing bits that were well out of date.... and had been complained about by previous cottage users. One of our group lost 4 days work due to lack of internet and no reliable phone signal in the cottage. Accordingly, the TV was unable to stream channels. Sound of gnawing rodents through the night from under the floor/in the wall of the king size bedroom disturbed sleep and caused distress to one of our group. Had to get plumbers out to clear a blocked shower trap and kitchen sink outside gully/drain. We have had many cottage holidays over the years - there are always going to be things that each of us might choose to do differently, but when visitor book comments repeat similar concerns about the place, as they did with this cottage, I think it's reasonable for the problems raised to be addressed before rentals continue - We are very disappointed with our choice of holiday home and are even being kept waiting for the promised complaints form! We shall visit the area again in the future, but it is an area blessed with lots of rental choice, and we shall certainly look elsewhere next time. Ash & Polly Buckingham

Premium price, less than premium experience.
It was a good location, and on the surface, looked good. There were maintenance issues including - flashing kitchen lights; flashing /not working rt hand light over bathroom sink; hot tap on bath had to be held to turn on and off - not good when it was hot; button on bathroom sink hot tap detached; grey settee in front lounge - spring gone? - down at one side; general rubbish bin outside - totally full on arrival. Cleanliness - downstairs loo very offputting, even after several flushes with what looked like faecal stains; plenty of cobwebs and dust etc along skirting by bed/back of bedside cabinets, suggesting inadequate cleaning; on arrival - black bits in bath - may be blown in if window had been opened, but as you would have to stand in bath to operate the window, obviously the muck was just left - also on shelf between cistern and toilet bowl. Bad staining on mattress protector on queen bed. Minor points - the kettle is very heavy for anyone who is not super fit in upper body. Kitchen blind over the sink hopeless for anyone under 5'5 to reach and pull up/down. Shower lethal - bath mat would be helpful to be obvious. Those issues are about the cottage. In what was not even a full week with a clear message early booking in was out of the question, it felt like being short changed to receive a message when it was too late to react to say the cottage was available earlier. Never had any of theses issues with Sykes before. Very disappointed.

This was a really special visit for us. The Cottage was practically perfect. There were just one or two things that were a little disappointing, given the weather. The heating system is not adequate at all to heat the main rooms in the cottage. Without the fire, we would have had to leave earlier as my mother needs warm rooms. They do not have to be hot, but the radiators are useless for the size of the large rooms. The information file was missing, so we hoped that we did everything right. Another slight complaint was that the gatepost had been freshly painted and no notice hung there so that some of us got white paint on our clothes. On my daughter's jacket we cannot remove it. Paint would not dry in those freezing temperatures, so a notice would have been helpful. The owners of the property have done their best to make the house feel 'lived in'. It was not like going into impersonal surroundings. There were homely touches everywhere. The beds were very comfortable and the bedding (especially pillows) and towels were of a very high quality. I will certainly book with this organisation again.

Lovely cottage! Beadnell is a fantastic village, 10 mins walk to the beach, a couple of minutes to the 2 local pubs and 5 minutes to the local shop. The cottage itself is beautifully appointed, the garden is huge and completely secure which was brilliant for our 3 dogs! The kitchen and sitting room are bigger than they appear on photos, the bedrooms all comfortable. We noticed there wasn’t a welcome pack or folder which was unusual compared to other properties we have been to. There was leaflets about bin collections but they were out of date. Also a lack of hoover bags and the bag that was already on the hoover was full and not been emptied for some time but we managed to make do but it’s something to perhaps consider taking with you for future residents. Parking is available for 2 cars which was perfect for us. Seahouses is only a few minutes drive up the road and has a large Co-Op store and more bars/restaurants and the cottage is perfectly situated for the castles and other towns like Alnwick. All in all a very enjoyable stay

We spent a wonderful two weeks in Puffin Cottage, it proved just right for us all. The location is fabulous, the option of walking in Seahouses or the beach at St Aidan’s bay for magnificent sunsets towards Bamburgh Castle, fun in the sea and on the sand, boat trips and food shopping. We love this region of the country and enjoyed returning to our favourite places and discovering new ones. Some recommendations would be Ford and Etal Castles (Castles, miniature train trips, cafes, Lady Waterford Hall with its pre Raphaelite walls, mill and the craft shops). We also enjoyed the local walk to the harbour, south to the caravan park which was a pleasant stroll. Bertram’s in Warkworth for food/coffee, the castle, river and beach all all lovely. A favourite of ours is Embleton Bay with views of Dunstanburgh from the North.
