We chose your property because of the pictures on the site.
Picture 1 of a beautiful looking bungalow, with a sunken garden. What we got was a tired looking property garden completely overgrown with pot plants and weeds making access to the sunken garden dangerous. Picture 2 table nicely set up to "unspoilt views of the beach" . What we got was a row of 10ft hedges blocking out the view. The table is rotting away. The porch and balcony dirty with cobwebs even the porch ceiling. Teenagers smoking pot made leaving windows open (as you requested) impossible. Picture 3 of sitting room a bright airy room with crisp white curtains. What we got were dull thick curtains a dirty rug, room crammed with sad unloved furniture. The kitchen looked very sad. Cupboards full of every pot and pan, utensils you could wish for but no larder or room to put supplies. No extra purple bin bags. Broken washing up bowl and dust pan and brush. Cutlery and sharp knives in cupboard under sink accessable to young children as no child lock. Bedroom window sills need filling in. Cupboards rammed with linens, leaving little space for clothes or suitcases. No room to hang a dress. No full length mirror. The bathroom - wet room. Not ideal showering and having to mop up after each person otherwise flooding occurs. Who wants to do that at 9.30 at night before bed on first night. Water runs behind the toilet. Its not practical. I see previous people have mentioned the tiredness of the property and furniture before but it doesn't look like any notice has been taken. Hopefully the 2 days after us when there are no bookings someone sorts our findings out. This property could be absolutely wonderful. I have pictures and video if you need evidence

The reason I chose this cottage even after reading negative reviews: Location of this little cottage is 10/10.
Short walk to crabbing on the pier, fossil hunting on Monmouth beach and a small walk into the main town/pubs/restaurants. Kids loved the location as did I. The only negative to the location being lack of parking space (Try to use the house just at the bottom of the garden, lovely owners with a small amount of parking spaces for £13 a day in high season). Lovely old cottage that has potential to be much nicer and would benefit from some TLC specifically on the outside. Some negatives: The garden and specifically around the side is a mess. As mentioned in a previous review, sinks, ladders etc just piled outside the kitchen window. My two kids called me outside when they were playing as they had seen a couple of rats hanging around. Wifi would definitely be a bonus here as I had little phone signal too. Tv reception is basic yes but not worthy of a negative review in my opinion as I do not book stays in a beach cottage to watch tv! The beds are not the most comfortable. Would I stay here again? Yes I would. Could it be better Yes ..the cottage has a lot of potential. At the moment in high season ( my visit was late Aug bank holiday ) it was expensive and probably could find nicer for the money.

Positives - amazing location and stunning views.
- lovely balcony. -fully enclosed garden for the dog. Negatives -we spent 45 mins looking for the car parking space at 9pm at night - really terrible directions on the welcome email. Asked many local who also didn't know where undercliff carpark was...should be made clear it is not the 2 public car parks. we called the Sykes cottages emergency voicemail line and no one returned our call despite getting a text from them. - the house is not signposted from the road and when I did finally find it using the what 3 words it was pitch black and overgrown and needed a torch to get into the keysafe. Really not a stress free way to start the holiday. - the property felt quite dirty and run down, with cobwebs/spiders and dust covering the bed frame, the glasses needed re-washing before use. - was unable to shut the washing machine door..therefore unable to wash anything. - I agree that this is not the owners fault but other holiday makers should know that the park situated next to the property is used by the locals to smoke weed on a summer's night, so on 2 occasions we were woken by the youths (who sit right below the balcony) and the bedroom was filled with fumes, so we had to shut the windows.

We enjoyed our stay.
Positives: -great location, close to town/ seafront, very quiet, residential, affluent area -house is spacious and well equipped -downstairs loo a big plus, as it wasnât mentioned in the listing , therefore we didnât at first even consider this property for 5 people, as one bathroom listed only -welcome pack was a nice touch - sitting room comfortable for a few people to enjoy an evening, lovely sofas Negatives: - bins outside were almost full with previous visitors rubbish still there, the welcome pack bag was still there - food leftovers in the freezer and other places - cleanliness wasnât great - the steps leading to tiny outside seating area were very dangerous, extremely slippery and covered in green moss, making a serious accident likely to happen . - shower wasnât great , especially for 3 bedroom property! Shower screen flimsy and hardly protecting from splashing , shower head came off every time we showered - upstairs area needs better, more comfortable furniture to sit and relax. Overall we enjoyed the stay, mainly for the location and comfortable space the house provided. Thank you.

Dear Sykes, We stayed last week, and were astonished to find a cleaner had opened the front door and was standing across the street.
There was a timid dog inside, which could have runaway. The reason she was there a day early was because on your website, it states bookings are for one week. However, it appears that you had only booked us for six nights! Do you even offer that as an option? Even if I had made an error in this, why did no one get in touch to check? Very poor service. The house was okay, although there was no booklet of instructions for oven bins etc. Again, annoying. There was a broken blind and a light bulb in the down stairs bedroom, and the garden was a bit of a mess. To add insult to injury you actually charged me an extra £260 for one night, although one nice gentleman said it would be £20. I am shocked to have to pay that much as you donât rent out your cottages for one night only, so you would not have been renting it out on Thursday anyway! This is disgraceful profiteering, and I think a compromise could I have been reached. I am asking you to reconsider and refund me the £260, less the £20 I was told. Your current good name will not last if you treat your guests so harshly, Your sincerely, Stephanie Groves
