    Holiday cottages in Kirkbymoorside

If you’re into art or antiques, the market town of Kirkbymoorside may already be on your radar – but if not, it should be. Nestled on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, Kirkbymoorside has a population of just 3,000 but attracts tourists from all over the world to visit its galleries, showrooms, and workshops.

Holiday cottages in Kirkbymoorside are popular with visitors attending the town’s fortnightly antique auctions and contemporary exhibitions. Every day you can watch and learn from some of the UK’s most promising craftspeople in disciplines such as glasswork, woodwork, ironmongering, and even confectionery. For centuries Kirkbymoorside has been a meeting place for those in the area. You’ll even find an exhibition celebrating this legacy in the nearby Ryedale Folk Museum, which documents some 4,000 years of rural life in the town.

What our customers say about their holidays

I stayed in Brookleigh last week and I was absolutely disgusted at what I saw.

The house was very very dirty and Dusty in every room. The bedroom room furniture in one double room was appalling, it was old dirty and smelly, the bed was so old with thick dust under it, the rug was old and like a rag. The bathroom was disgusting, bath scratched, dirty and smelly. Windows through out the house were filthy. The hoover full of dirt to the top, hair all wrapped around the brush head, that hadn't been used for months. My husband had to clean it all out so we could use it to clean the place up. The back garden was awful , very dangerous and boxes of rubbish laying about that hadn't been put out for the dustbin collection for weeks, wheelie bins outside were full when we arrived and smelt really bad. I have stayed in hundreds off cottages but none in this condition before. I personally think it needs one hell of a deep clean. Where the cottage is situated is brilliant and looks lovely until you walk through the door. We couldn't open any of the windows because they had been painted over so you couldn't open them. I hope that this will be looked into and that you will get back to me. I know that people had complained about the cottage as we were told my people in the actual village. We paid good money to stay there and we were so disappointed.

Hutton le Hole was again the perfect venue for our holiday.

Beautiful village, lovely people. Brookleigh cottage however didn't offer such a good experience. On our sixth stay there issues arose again which have been mentioned in previous feedback. On arrival we were unable to park at the cottage and had to wait for people to return to their vehicles before we could unpack our cars. This happened on several occasions during the week. Maybe better signage would help. The cottage is still very tired and in need of upgrading. The covers on the sofas are badly stained and we were pleased we brought our own throws to cover them. The bath and shower curtain are particularly grubby and off putting. Most concerning were the two occasions when the electricity supply to the cottage failed and we were unable to locate the fault on the fuse box. Calls to the emergency numbers went to voicemail and attempts to call us back failed as the village has no mobile coverage. Could a landline not be available for emergencies? Less important things that we have mentioned before about beds being uncomfortable and bedding being torn have not changed. Sadly our ideal holiday cottage turned out to be a bit of a nightmare this time.

The cottage was really cosy and comfortable.

It was very clean and had all the equipment needed for a self-catering stay. The view from the lounge window and bedroom was beautiful. The surrounding farm land was well looked after and the cottage was located in a very quiet area which made for a peaceful and relaxing stay. There is a lovely river running through the farm and is easily accessible through the fields. A lovely walk and friendly inquisitive sheep and goats on the way. The owners of the farm were very friendly and always stopped for a chat and asked how our day has been. Janet even went out of her way before we arrived to find out if anyone locally was selling eggs. She rang me back to let me know. Unfortunately due to coronavirus there were no eggs for sale but normally a neighbour would be selling them. The cottage is in easy driving distance for many of the local attractions. We really enjoyed our stay and even though times are difficult and uncertain at the moment we felt safe and had a relaxing and enjoyable break. We would recommend Meadow Cottage or any of the other cottages on Cowldyke farm.

Brookleigh is a lovely cottage in a fabulous location.

There are a few comments I would like to make: 1. It is listed as having two bathrooms but in fact the second is just a downstairs WC. 2. The dining room lighting is insufficient. 3. The cottage was only just warm enough, even with leaving the electric heaters on. 4. There was no vacuum cleaner or broom and we were worried about not being able to clean. 5. There was a lot of condensation in the bedrooms, making the curtains wet and no extractor fan in the bathroom. 6. We had to make small repairs to a bed frame, coat hook and a chair and a bedside lamp didn't work. A small stock of lightbulbs would be an advantage, particularly as there is no local shop. None of the above would prevent us from either recommending or returning - for us, no phone signal was an added bonus and What'sApp still worked!! Hopefully the owners can use the constructive feedback to make small improvements.

The village of Hutton is hole is beautiful and has great attractions, Having stayed there many times the people are so welcoming it feels like coming home.

However after staying at Brookleigh cottage for several years it's now in dire need of attention. Of particular concern are the electrics. When an appliance is turned on other appliances flicker or go off, The downstairs kitchen cold tap splashes every were soaking whoever turns it on. The upstairs basin hot tap turns a full 90' degree when turned on meaning the whole tap points towards the door. The living room curtains remain too long covering the convector heater constituting a fire hazard. The paving in the back garden remains uneven and incredibly slippery with a warning sign on the back door that can't be read. Smaller issues are no replacement light bulbs for the four lamps that don't work, torn and badly fitting cover covers, uncomfortable mattress, lack of basics like hairdryer. This cottage has been our favourite for many years now, but is sad to see the decline in standards.
