What our customers say about their holidays

    • Danielle - Verified booking

Sykes Staff have been nothing but friendly and accommodating, they were not to fault for our unsatisfactory stay.

The property however had dust webs left in corners (despite cleaners) and offered no QR code/Covid guidelines, no antibacterial hand wash or sanitiser (good job we took our own). We were greeted by a wasps nest by the front door obviously using the property’s roof. The door with its large double glass windows offered no privacy from passers by using the shared drive and communal laundry room given the fact the shower and toilet were right behind it which resulted in us having to hang a towel over the door. The pictures of the garden were misleading. It clearly shows a grass area which had been cordoned off and belonged to another property which only left the stoned area you see in the pictures which would have been fantastic if it weren’t for the fact they are not friendly to the paws of our fury friends which meant our pet friendly get away wasn’t in fact so pet friendly at all and his off lead play time went out the window. The directions to the property are not clear, even using ‘what four words’ we had difficulty. In the end we were forced to contact Sykes which then had to contact the owners who added another couple of steps to the directions. Frankly if it weren’t for the fact we had to rely on a family member for travel and our signal was so spotty we never would have stayed.

I think we were possibly the first to book this property. We were not disappointed. A lovely property with quality fittings and some really nice features. Very comfy beds and excellent bathrooms in all three bedrooms. Small patio outside which seemed to get the sun for most of the day (well it was there whenever we went out). Gated location (make sure you have the code ready) and private parking. Only one space but there are at least a couple of visitor spaces. The house/cottage is in a perfect location literally 1 minute walk from the market square and all the great cafes, pubs and restaurants. And then there are the beautiful walks from Helmsley. We will definitely try and come back and explore more of the area.

Only reasons we didn’t give top marks were : there wasnt enough comfortable seating for 5 adults in living area, could do with removing the sideboard/drawer unit & putting a bigger sofa in that space instead, TV quite high up on wall neck aching after a while, No kettle, not all of us confident in using the Quooker tap, boiling hot. Couldn’t operate the heating in the loft/master suite, not a major problem as ithe weather was kind to us whilst staying there, ,no TV in there either, could do with a small shelf in the bathroom to put toothbrush & toothpaste on. as sink is very close to the toilet . Other than that the property was fabulous, location perfect & we all enjoyed our stay there.

What a lovely, clean and well equipped cottage! Whilst we already expected the property to be small, the layout, high ceilings and decor make it deceptively spacious, yet very homely. Perfectly addressed our needs for a short break with our dog, who loved it as much as us. A fantastic, high quality and sympathetic renovation on an old masons workshop, in a lovely village with two very good pubs. Well appointed with everything we needed and more, with a bonus hamper of goodies and essentials. If we are in the area again, we wouldn't hesitate to stay again and would highly recommend for an all year get away.

Lovely cottage and restored my faith in Rural Retreats’ properties after our last holiday. Nice location with everything within easy access and gorgeous food at the pub. Lovely and clean inside and the comfiest bed I think I’ve ever slept in; wish I could have taken it home. It is definitely only for two people but it’s nice and cosy. We managed but there’s no real hanging space for clothes, just 4 coat hangers and some wall hooks but to be fair, there isn’t room for anything else; just don’t take lots of stuff that won’t keep in your case/bag or the smallish draws. Highly recommended.
