"This is the second time we have stayed at Lookin How and have had another wonderful holiday. If you are looking to completely wind down in idyllic surroundings with fantastic walks directly from the cottage and with great food and drink at the bottom of the road at the Royal Hotel then this is the venue! There are so many things to do locally it is not possible to name them all but consider the walks to Aira Force, Douthwaite Head and Gowbarrow Summit. Take a trip on the boat across Ullswater from Glenridding to Pooley Bridge. From the cottage conservatory we saw Red Squirrels on 3 occasions and watched a family of 6 chaffinches on the patio. Visit Keswick especially on Thursday (market day) for local produce and tearooms. Penrith for the larger supermarkets - Aldi, Morrisons, Sainsbury's and the wonderful Booth's. Don't miss the amazing fudge from the Toffee Shop in Penrith. I could go on and on but don't just take my word for it come and see for yourself - you won't be disappointed! Do remember though, the Lakes are there because it can rain - sometimes!!"

"Nice cottage, good location, comfortably furnished. However I wish to make five points:1. We arrived quite late (about 8.30pm) after a very long and difficult journey. On arrival the house was cold.2. In fact the central heating arrangements were not satisfactory. The boiler was timed to go off for much of the middle of the day. Cumbria can be cold in October, and you should not assume that all visitors are jolly hikers and out all day. We were pushing the advance button on the boiler more often than we would have liked to keep the house warm.3. We hunted high and low, but nowhere could we find matches to light the fire!4. The blind in the left-hand window in the kitchen was broken.5. No matter how we positioned the shower screen (upstairs bathroom) there was always a pool of water on the floor when we had had a shower.Despite these points we enjoyed our stay at Lookin How."

"Cottage is ideal for two or a small family, comfortable and fairly well equipped. Sky TV is the basic package, books, games, DVD player and DVDs provided if the weather isn't too good. Location of cottage is excellent, easy walks to Aria Force and Ullswater surroundings, the Helvellyn area is also within reach if you prefer a longer walk. Keswick and Penrith both about 20 minutes by car. Pub nearby, about 50 yards from the cottage, good food the evening we had a meal - excellent home made pies. Cottage lost a star from the overall rating due to some aspects needing attention, e.g. shower floor and other areas of the bathroom need new grout. Hopefully these will be resolved in the near future."

"Lookin How is very deceptive in reference to size when looking at this photograph,it is actually a very spacious cottage. If you are looking for a peaceful holiday you couldn't choose a better cottage and location. The only sound we heard during our stay was that of the Beck which runs at the side of the cottage. The view from the conservatory and kitchen is so beautiful, the Beck, trees and hills so relaxing. The kitchen is well equipped and looks out onto a patio area. The bedrooms are spacious with very comfortable beds which have very warm quilts to keep you cozy at night. The lounge is light and airy with four windows and decorated with relaxing colours.I would highly recommend this cottage."

"Third visit to 'Lowther' as it suits me very well. Great location for central, northern and eastern areas of Lakes, proximity to A66 is very useful. Kitchen very good , though a bit more crockery would help. First-floor living room is really spacious and has great views. Lots of stairs which might cause some people trouble. Central heating very good but timings a mystery, as there's no control within the house - but room heaters help out . Very good value if you can do without internet or phone reception ( Orange/EE available at the foot of the access road ) . Walks straight from door, and pets allowed."
