What our customers say about their holidays

    • Clare - Verified booking

We had a lovely stay in Pips Hideaway set in the stunning village of Milton Abbas.

It was perfectly situated for exploring Dorset. It was also so quiet and peaceful and a joy to listen to the relaxing sounds of the birds singing and see lots of varieties of bird feeding on the bird table. We were slightly confused by the directions to the property as we didn’t come via the Blandford way so we had to go through the village of Milton Abbas (which is stunning) and turn around to follow the directions given. There is a very weak mobile/GPRS signal in and around this area so perhaps some directions from the other end of the village would also be helpful. The property is absolutely stunning. So well thought out, so very well decorated and so very clean and tidy. It has pretty much everything you could need in these sort of holiday properties. I didn’t find myself saying very often ‘I wish this had….’ (Although maybe a clothes airer for drying the towels and swimming costumes after days at the beach would be an extra bonus?). We absolutely loved the quirky layout of the house which is something of a trend we like to look for when finding holiday properties to stay in. The owner lives in the beautiful thatched cottage next door and on arrival had prepared lovely scones, jam and clotted cream and later in the week had baked a very tasty Dorset Apple cake and gave us some slices. Whilst she lived next door and we had a shared drive, I did not feel that we were in each others pockets or overlooked. It still felt very private. However, we did feel that if we needed to we could call on her and it was slightly comforting to know she were nearby should there be an issue. From this area you can visit most places in Dorset within 30 minutes to an hour. The closest beach is only 30 mins away. During our time we were able to visit: Dorchester, Monkey World, Dorset Falconry Park, Cerne Abbas (and walk to the giant), Weymouth, Portland Bill, Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, swanage and Corfe Castle all within reasonable travelling distances and all great places to go. This property was ideal for our holiday in Dorset with our family of four and it was also well affordable. I would absolutely recommend it and would stay again if we return to holiday in this area.

      Lovely property with stunning views.

Sadly my stay coincided with lots of heavy rain so I wasn’t able to enjoy sitting out in the lovely garden and listening to the beautiful birdsong, which really struck me on arrival (it was sunny then!) because it’s so quiet and peaceful out there. But it was still a very peaceful and relaxing stay nonetheless. The power shower was wonderful! Spacious cubicle, the water was lovely and hot and the water pressure was superb (I’d wondered about that after reading that negative review and I can confirm that that person was talking absolute rot! In fact I wanted to take the shower home with me!). The pathway to the cottage did get quite muddy because of the rain so I did have to do a bit of tidying up after myself around the front doorway when I was loading up the car on departure, so sorry if I missed anything! (During my stay I just made sure I took my shoes off just inside the front door so I didn’t carry any mud into the property, but during a dry spell I’m sure the pathway wouldn’t be a problem). The TV worked perfectly well and the bed was very comfy, although I couldn’t find a WiFi password - but that didn’t matter as I just used data on my phone (and I had no problem getting service, which I thought I might with the cottage being so remote). All in all I’d definitely book again - hopefully when the weather’s better!

Thimble Cottage is a wonderful little place for a getaway.

Easy to get to and the sat nav takes you right to the door. The whole property looks bright and fresh and the lovely big garden and outside areas are 100% secure for your dogs. Even the most accomplished 4 legged escape artist would have to go some to get out. We had a Great Dane and a Chocolate Labrador and they loved the freedom to be able to wander around and bask in the sun. There a nice welcome pack for both your dogs and yourselves and this was a nice touch. The kitchen has everything that you could wish for and it’s unlikely that you’ll find yourself wanting for any utensil, pan or crockery. Dishwasher and washing machine both have tablets and capsules to suit the length of the stay. It has a smart TV with more than enough channels to keep you entertained. WiFi is good and allows communication to the rest of the world. (The mobile phone signal in a great deal of the surrounding area is a bit patchy.) The property sits just off the road through the village, but you do not get disturbed by what little traffic comes through. It’s in a great location to explore the local area and 30-40 minutes gets you to an abundance of sights. Would thoroughly recommend Thimble Cottage for your next getaway. Parking for one large car and an EV charging point if required.

Generally a nice place in quiet surroundings although a busy yard due to it being on a working livery.

Your private courtyard garden has a lovely hot tub, both could have done with a better clean, on the outside of the hot tub and floor of the courtyard. The stairs have a twist in them and the shower is in the bath. So if you had mobility issues then the place is not for you. The bathroom would have been better with just a walk-in shower. One morning we didn’t have any hot water. This was reported and fixed quickly. We sat there for an hour waiting for someone to fix it. Whatever the problem we was not told it had been fixed. On the day of departure, maintenance people were in the property as we were loading the car. We found this rather rude and should’ve waited until we had left. No fire instructions but we did find a fire blanket and extinguisher in a kitchen cupboard. On the whole we enjoyed our stay, the place being new and a year old. Just those pointers for improvement. We would consider returning.

The cottage when we entered was spotlessly clean and our host Melissa had laid out what can only be described as the most delicious cream tea and chocolate brownies.

Along with her husband Chris they have thought of everything that a guest may require. This cottage is equipped with comfortable beds and quality furniture. it is a working farm with country walks all around you and the bucolic sounds of horse whinnying, hens, rabbits and a variety of sheep, cows and pigs all make their own noises and contributing to the countryside feel. Do avail yourself of breakfast which is served in the farmhouse and is taken with the family who all go out of their way to make you feel welcome and ensure that you have everything that you need. We strongly recommend Little Stables as a base for your Dorset holiday.
