"The cottage was clean & tidy on our arrival. However, the cottage could do with some refurbishment and I for one would be prepared to pay more for that privilege. The bathroom was a huge waste of valuable bedroom space and could be made en-suite very easily. The shower over the bath could disappear and a proper shower cubicle could easily fit in the bathroom. The furniture in all the bedrooms was basic and in need of renewal. Not sure what you could do about it but the stairs to the top floor were difficult and dangerous. There is a need for a downstairs W.C. The property is meant for 7 people so this is not an unreasonable expectation. Lounge was adequate but the kitchen could do with a total refurbishment. The cooker top does its own thing (being electric) and the oven is untameable. I have got used to much better quality accommodation and was disappointed with this cottage. Myself and my family will not be back here until it has been refurbished. I'm sorry if this sounds offensive, - it is not meant to be but I believe that it is better to be honest. A lick of more inviting colour on the outside window and door frames would do much to lift the kerb appeal. The photographs on line flatter the property. Location is good and this would encourage a return stay if/when the property is refurbished. Housekeeping could be more diligent as we found three broken glasses hidden in the utility room - on a window ledge which is below counter height, beneath pile of tea towels. We were lucky not to injure ourselves on these. Fortunately, the beauty of the area was undiminished by the sub standard accomodation."

"We visit the lakes 2-3 times a year and have stayed in quite a few places so we believe this is a balanced and fair review. Comfort and equipment: apartment was spacious, bed was comfortable, shower was good. However the people above the apartment were very heavy footed and woke us up early every morning and once in the middle of the night. Towels were provided but they were stained. Basic cooking equipment provided, nice to have dishwasher tablets and washing up liquid provided.Location: really good, very close to town centre and really suited our requirements. Keep in mind it is on a hill though. Bonus of this is great views when walking back. Cleanliness: Disappointing, bathroom sink was hairy, found cable tie under sheets, very dusty throughout. Overall: A very nice looking apartment in a great location. Needs some t.l.c and general maintenance (putting kitchen doors on, replacing blown lightbulbs, new batteries for torch, thorough clean etc). However even then noise from upstairs will probably spoil your stay :("

"We had a wonderful stay at Glenmore. It was extremely clean and comfortable. The layout is fantastic with the dining table close to the kitchen and the washing machine in the basement so it couldn’t be heard in the main living space. The kitchen is well stocked, our only very small criticism is that a couple more baking trays would have been useful but everything else we needed was available. The table tennis table in the basement was a big hit with our 3 and 6 year olds, and us! There is also a very well stocked board games cupboard, the contents of which provided us with lots of fun. There are loads of books for adults and children on the book shelves - also a big hit with the kids. There’s lots of DVDs to watch and free access to Netflix on the tv. The bedrooms were really comfortable with plenty of storage space for clothes and cases. There is a small front garden with a lawn which our boys enjoyed playing football on.We can’t wait to return to Glenmore for another holiday in the Lake District."

"The cottage scores very well for location with Ambleside and all its lovely shops only a minutes walk away. We really liked the fact there was WiFi, Netflix, a good table tennis table and private parking.Things to improve the cottage would be provision of towels, more thorough cleaning, particularly in the kitchen, which needed a deep clean. The step leading from the dining room to kitchen needs addressing as it is not very visible and my husband nearly broke his toe on it-perhaps a rubber slope would be appropriate. The cottage needs some general attention, examples such as The toilet needs fixing as it is constantly trying to refill itself and the door handle is broken. Some local walking guides would have been useful. Overall we had a lovely week, but the attention to detail was lacking compared with other cottages we have stayed in. We hope this feedback is constructive. Many thanks"

"West View and Ambleside was a good choice as a base for our holiday in the Lake District. The property is well kept, has everything you need and is presented really well. Ambleside has almost everything you need with exception of a large supermarket. This isn't much of a problem as Windermere (15 minutes drive) has a Booths supermarket or you can shop online and have it delivered the day you arrive as we did.Bus routes to most locations and connections in the Lake District are just a 2 minute walk up the road which is really handy for the days you don't want to use the car. You also have walks that start from Ambleside or very close by which was also useful.Only negative was the narrow access to parking. Not a problem as such if you know the size of your car and once you've figured out angles for reversing out of the space it's not a problem, just a word of warning!"
