What our customers say about their holidays

    • Ruth - Verified booking

I had my 75th birthday here with hubby, two daughters, one son-in-law and five teenage grandchildren.

The location is superb for surfing beaches a short drive away, King Arthur’s castle ruins and amazing new bridge. Etc. The house exceeded our expectations in many ways but in a couple of others didn’t. However the owner, who lives next door was always on hand to answer queries and more than ready to take on board our suggestions. We were only his second guests since he took it on and so was keen to hear any slight quibbles and to put them right for future guests. The info from Sykes about the house was a bit misleading with the Covid instructions. They said there would be no cushions on the sofas and that there would be no games, maps, books etc. All these things were there so we needn’t have brought our own. It also states that there is a beach 200 metres away! No there isn’t! The sea might be but not a useable beach. Also we assumed, wrongly, that as it is a big house it would have a reasonable size garden. So we brought a gazebo but there was nowhere to put it up. The outdoor space is tiny with the hot tub taking up half and a BBQ and two benches with small table the rest. So if you have a BBQ meal you really need a table and chairs to eat it at outside. The hot tub is a luxury but we felt a garden dining set would be more useful. Also there is nowhere outdoors to dry wet swimmers, towels or washing although an electric drier and clothes horse indoors is provided inside. A rack for wetsuits is outside the front with a hose which is handy. The house itself is very well appointed and tastefully decorated with no lack of seafaring themed ornaments and wall pictures. The kitchen fantastic for catering for large numbers and a very comfy lounge. All bathrooms are great with endless hot water for those after beach showers, even all going at once! The bed I was in did sag in the middle rather and gave me a backache for the first half an hour each morning but maybe my age had something to do with it. Matt the owner was so friendly and helpful that I don’t want to upset him but felt that these comments might help those people thinking of booking up at Trevena Lodge. Oh and the view from sitting on the loo in my en-suite was the best I have ever experienced! We managed to avoid the crowds to avoid the Covid and altogether we had a super holiday and I had a memorable birthday!

      Good location to Tintagel itself.

Walking time 10 to 15 minutes to shops/ pubs/castle. Garden apartment in a very quiet area with off road free parking. The apartment itself was a good base. Warm with a wood burner and some wood provided, central heating good(we visited in October so wet and cold outside) Bed soft (husband did have an aching back at times) and unusually low. Bathroom lovely with over the shower bath with good hot water. The only criticism was a blind/curtains needed at the window/door in the bathroom instead of a net curtain. I did feel a little exposed so had to stand bags on the chest of draws in front of the window. Also a blind in the kitchen rather than nets for same reason, we were there in winter so darker nights, lights on! Otherwise a pretty, functional apartment. Good price, good area. Easy access to local amenities. Good walking, lots of lovely(steep) coves. Bossiney cove a gem..

The garden apartment was situated right beside the south west coast path.

I only drove my car once in a week. Easy walk to Tintagel village, beautiful tea rooms 3 mins from apartment. St Nectans glen was just 3 /4 min drive . Perfect place for walking. Peaceful, quiet area in bossiney. Very friendly people. Absolutely wonderful apartment, everything you would need. Lovely patio garden for my dog. Tons of wood for wood burner. Everything was done to perfection. Make sure you get all your food as Bude was the nearest supermarket. We took a couple of extra towels to put on bathroom window and kitchen window for night time , as there is a passage way behind the apartment. Do not let that put you off, it was everything it said, beautiful and peaceful. Plenty of parking and amazing views. Definitely going to book again. The owners thought of everything. Amazing holiday. Thank you so much

We have just returned from the fabulous Trevena Lodge.

What a great house for getting together with the family. Ages ranged from 8 months to 62 years! Plenty of room for us all to spread out and good comfortable areas for us all to be together. The kitchen is very well equipped and big enough to take several chefs and helpers! Great utility and storage room available as well as a games room. Two fridges and a freezer and an oven big enough to cater for us all. We loved the hot tub after a day at the beach or walking along the cliffs. Matt the owner was on hand to help with any problems but on this occasion there were none. Plenty of games, maps and books of local interest available in the house. A short walk into Tintagel where there are local shops and a great chippy!

      What a stay!

Chilowan is absolutely gorgeous and just what we needed and hoped for as a relaxing peaceful getaway. The welcome was so lovely with little surprises to make us feel at home. Ed and Jude even went the extra mile for us as it was leading up to Christmas! The house was spotless, the big bath is amazing, the underfloor heating really luxurious, and the bed was so comfy with lovely linens and towels - they had thought of everything! So much so we're going back soon!! Great location to explore Tintagel and the coast path. Lovely to be tucked away here too if you just want to rest/hibernate. Literally the best hosts ever. Thank you for creating this gorgeous retreat <3
