What our customers say about their holidays

    • Ms Mortimer - Verified booking

Firstly, the parking information from OC needs to be updated. Someone commented on this in Oct 2022 and it’s still hasn’t been done. If OC gave out the info that’s in the information guide in the cottage, neighbours wouldn’t be disturbed by guests arriving and trying to understand where they can and cannot park. OC are great at keeping you informed and it’s a shame that this hasn’t been sorted out. The cottage is warm and very comfortable. The welcome pack of goodies and the kitchen / bathroom packs are a nice touch. The one log in the basket by the fire hardly constitutes as a basket of logs and there wasn’t any kindling so we had to use the papers that were left. We had seen comments re this prior to our holiday so took logs etc with us. There wasn’t an oven glove which made pulling stuff out of the oven a bit dangerous but the rest of the kitchen equipment was good. Nice to have some nice sharp knives for a change in a holiday let. Overall the cottage was clean, this has obviously been rectified after recent comments made by guests. Some TLC required downstairs. The location is great. We know the area very well so know that there’s not much in Craster apart from The Jolly Fisherman, which is fantastic and Robsons Smokehouse. As long as you know that beforehand you can ensure you have all you need with you. It’s a fantastic base for coastal and country walks and visiting other places up and down the Northumbrian Coast. I’d say this property is great for 4 people (adults) but any more, unless they were children you might struggle a bit with bathroom facilities. Overall we had a great week and we enjoyed our stay at Pegasus Cottage, would we return….probably not as there are so many other properties to choose from.

We’ve had a lovely stay at High Tide House.

It’s in a fabulous location in Craster, just a 2 minute walk to the harbour and Jolly Fisherman pub (who also do takeaway fish & chips too). It’s around a 30 min walk to Dustanburgh Castle too. The house itself is lovely, with more than enough space for everyone and has most things you’d need for a holiday. There were just a couple of small things though that we noticed when we got to the house. Some of the kitchen utensils were dirty, the baking trays especially - they hadn’t been washed from previous guests. Also, there were a couple of chips on some bowls and a glass was cracked in the cupboard too. The BBQ hadn’t been cleaned either, with loads of ash at the bottom and tonnes of grease on the grill part - there were also no utensils for it which was a real shame. We were hoping to have a BBQ whilst we were here but this put decided not to in the end. Also, it would be useful to have some hooks on the back of doors, especially in the bathrooms so we have somewhere to hang towels/clothes etc. there’s nothing in the bedrooms either. Finally, although this doesn’t affect your stay and it’s no one’s fault, if you are a light sleeper and have early risers in your party, be prepared to be woken up from movement upstairs (as it’s an upstairs house). The en-suite bedroom in particular is directly under the kitchen and you can hear everything. Not sure what it’s like in the other bedrooms but we were often woken up very early because of this. Just something to mention. But overall we had a fab time. We probably wouldn’t come back only because and upside down house isn’t for us (first time we’ve stayed in one) but 100% would stay again if it was the usual bedrooms upstairs and living downstairs.

The house is well designed and very comfortable.

The kitchen was well equipped with good oven and large fridge freezer and plenty of crockery, glasses etc. The bedrooms and bathrooms were very clean. Sadly what let it down was the disappointment re cleanliness in the kitchen/sitting room on our arrival especially given the emphasis on this in the description and in the instructions to us both before and as a firm reminder before leaving. We had to vacuum the rug due to a lot of crumbs, the dark sofa and arm of another sofa were covered in dog hair and numerous articles in the kitchen cupboards needed washing before we could use them including baking trays, cutlery, egg cups, some crockery, plastic plates. I know that people, are not allowed to have their dogs on the furniture but if they do let them it's not for the next people to deal with. As someone else has suggested the pans and baking trays, are very tired. Such a shame as a lovely house. We spent over an hour cleaning thoroughly to make sure that the next people wouldn't have the same experience. Good to have parking and a garden. Craster a delight as always. We had excellent walks to Dunstanburgh, beach day at Bamburgh and a lovely walk and tea at Hawick Hall Gardens. We couldn't use the coast bus due to my husbands need to isolate but it is a fabulous service whuch means you can leave your car at the house. A good meal at the Jolly Fisherman, prebooking well worth it but the fish and chips from the van there were disappointing. Excellent shop at the smokery worth supporting including milk, bread, teabags etc as well as lovely fish.

The location of this property is its selling point with views straight out over the sea.

There are so many lovely walks straight from the doorstep and it's also just a short drive to larger towns. The cottage is very tastefully decorated, immaculately clean, tidy and the beds are extremely comfortable. I agree with others that whilst the living room furniture looks great, the sofas are very uncomfortable and not great for relaxing on a rainy day. It all feels a little bit corporate and lacking a few personal touches. For example, not a single book to read, no games - not even a pack of cards...which we've found in every other cottage we've stayed in. The small welcome pack included a thimble full of washing up liquid & no hand soap etc...again, maybe we've just been lucky in other cottages but a few homely touches wouldn't go amiss given the price of the property. The heating wouldn't turn on one evening and we had a job to get through to the Sykes online chat (which had almost closed for the night) as there's no phone signal at the property. When we did get through they were quick to come and connect another gas cylinder but warned us that it only had a bit of gas left in it and may run out again that evening. They offered us portable heaters for the night and whilst the gas didn't run out again, I feel that this is something that should have been checked before we rented the cottage. All in all a great few days, and a few things that would have enhanced our stay even more.

We have just spent a lovely week in creel cottage.

The Location was perfect, tranquil and directly opposite the harbour. We enjoyed walks with our dog up to Dunstanburgh castle which was stunning. The local pub was excellent and well worth a visit but you do need to book. The bedrooms were of a good size and our bed was very comfortable. The only down side was the bathroom being down stairs and also a trot through the kitchen is required! The kitchen was well equipped but little storage is available for food and drink. The seating area in the back garden is good but needs a bit of TLC around the seating area. The seating area across the (quiet) road was lovely and looking out over the harbour and sea was wonderful. There were a few areas for improvement however, the sofas in lounge were terribly uncomfortable and looked a little tired. On arrival at the cottage the bathroom had a strong smell of bleach which we realised after a day masked a damp smell. The parking area is ok if you have a small to medium car but anything bigger you will struggle like us as the large bush needs a trim back in order for your car to get in. The gate also needs some repair as the bolt securing it is hanging off - this is an easy area to be improved as parking at the front is difficult. Despite these issues we did have a nice time.
