What our customers say about their holidays

    • Julie - Verified booking

We enjoyed our stay at the Shippen very much.

Its in a lovley scenic location, away from everything with countryside views but close enough for visits to Seaton,Budleigh Salterton,Exmouth,Sidmouth etc so it provided an ideal base for us. The owners Sue & Simon are available for advice if needed & left us fresh eggs, milk, apple juice & lovley cake. Our cottage was well equipped with a homely feel to it. We had a 4 berth cottage all ground floor & there are 2 more holiday lets there too (not single storey) so a larger family group could go together. Although we didn’t use it,except to borrow dvds, the large gamesroom provided, table football, ping pong table, games, books, dvds & there were sofas to sit on too,it must be a great bonus for parents in wet weather! There are facilities for laundry in a nearby shared utility room,& good recycling boxes in the barn housing the bins, all clearly labelled so no guesswork! Outside there are ducks, chickens ,a crowing cockerel & some cows so any doggy visitors need to be on their leads! The Shippen has a patio with chairs & table for use on warmer days and there’s a nice grassed orchard garden to the rear of the cottages available for guests to use. It’s perfect for countryside lovers who want to get away from it all.

We spent such a relaxing week at Woodstock Cottage.

Debbie the host was lovely & showed us around and the house has everything you need. We were impressed that even items like dishwasher tablets and shower gel were provided alongside all of the usual things. It was absolutely spotless & didn’t smell at all. The beds were comfortable and the living area was also comfortable with a good size TV, books, brochures for the local area & games. It was so quiet, especially at night and even outside in the beautiful garden where we would spend time in the garden at breakfast and dinner, which was v.relaxing! We also appreciated that the main house was an eco home and there were lots of environmentally friendly features at the cottage. The house is v.close to lots of great beaches, towns and attractions. We really recommend staying.

When we arrived Debbie was waiting and was so very helpful.

Inside we did not expect a mini hamper of wine, biscuits, milk and coffee/tea. It was really thoughtful. The indoor layout, the decking and garden were perfect for us and we felt instantly at home. When we sat on the decking the views were amazing and the garden had a wonderful assortment of plants which attracted a variety of different birds. The kitchen had everything we needed and more, the beds were very comfortable and beautifully furnished and the bathroom floor was lovely and warm and the shower of spa standard. Overall we found the cottage charming and we had a fantastic time exploring the beaches and historical sites near by. We will be back because we have only just scratched the surface as many other places we would like to have visited.

Had a lovely stay at the cottage- it is so peaceful and quiet there.

A great place to stay if you want a break away from the city. There are some roadworks going on there at the moment which was a little frustrating but in general it is a nice location if you want to drive to places like sidmouth, Lyme Regis, Exeter- best places we visited was darts farm in Exeter and the anchor inn in seatown. Only downside was my mum did not find it as comfortable as she was in what I thought would be the “proper” bedroom- downstairs with a door leading onto the patio as opposed to the upstairs room which is out in the open- but it was too cold for her and even though it was set up as a double it had two single duvets on it. But overall this isn’t enough to knock it down a star and we still had a great stay, thanks Debbie :)

Lovely peaceful cottage, beautifully decorated and furnished, and in a great location - so much to see and do within 30-40 min drive.

There are local country walks from the cottage itself. This is the second time we have stayed at Woodstock Cottage this year - last time was in winter when the wood burning stove was so welcoming! This time we sat on the patio for breakfast most mornings, and relaxed in the seating area in the garden, which catches the sun most of the day, especially in the late afternoon and evening. We enjoyed shopping at the local farm shops which have stock of everything you could need. The cottage owner is nearby and is really helpful should you need anything, though she has tried to think of everything to make for a comfortable stay. We has a thoroughly lovely stay once again, and we will certainly be back for another visit when we can.
