The Shippen in Devon is highly praised for its cleanliness, welcoming hosts, and peaceful rural setting. Guests appreciate the well-equipped cottage, the thoughtful welcome gifts, and the property's suitability for dogs. The games room is a hit among families, and the local scenery is perfect for walks. Some guests mention the narrow lanes as a charming but challenging feature.
Guests consistently note the property's exceptional cleanliness, often describing it as the cleanest cottage they've stayed in, which reflects meticulous maintenance and attention to detail.
The location is appreciated for its picturesque and peaceful countryside, ideal for a quiet break and dog walking. However, some guests find the narrow lanes challenging and the distance from beaches and towns a slight inconvenience.
The cottage is frequently described as comfortable, warm, and well-suited for families and pets. The presence of a wood burner and the spaciousness add to the overall comfort.
Facilities like the games room, well-equipped kitchen, and on-site animals are highlights for guests. Some minor feedback on specific amenities suggests room for improvement, but overall satisfaction is high.
The hosts' thoughtfulness is evident in the welcome gifts of fresh eggs, cake, and apple juice, which are frequently mentioned and appreciated. While these gifts are warmly received, they are a kind gesture and may vary with each stay.
4 miles from Colyton, deep in thick, lush hedgerow lanes in the Coly Valley, is the sleepy hamlet of Northleigh, 5 to 7 miles from the lovely coastal villages of Beer, Sidmouth and Branscombe. On the edge of Northleigh, three cottages converted from traditional Devon barns with extensive views over surrounding farmland. The Shippen opens from the courtyard into an open plan living space with seating area with cosy wood burning stove, dining area, kitchen and glass door to a patio with table and chairs and wonderful views across fields. On the same level are the two comfortable bedrooms sharing a big family bathroom. This is a lovely peaceful base for relaxing and enjoying country freedom. This property can be booked with The Linney (976057) and Battens (976059) and together they sleep 14.
Beer is a small picturesque fishing village on the south Devon coast near Seaton. The shingle beach is very sheltered, backed by limestone cliffs and was once fertile smuggling territory, plus contraband was hidden in nearby caves, which are now a popular tourist attraction
