What our customers say about their holidays

    • Amelia - Verified booking

We had a great week at Barnsley House.

The accommodation was clean and comfortable and the top floor, which has obviously been recently renovated, was beautifully appointed - some of the bedrooms have stunning sea views. The pool and garden were a real treat - it felt incredibly secluded and private. Cooking facilities not bad for a holiday cottage, though we were surprised there was no coffee maker - not even a cafetière! Although the downstairs decor could do with some updating, this is a wonderfully characterful house with all the activities of Teignmouth and the beach just a few minutes away. It was very well suited to our big family group - the kids spent all their time either round the pool or playing tennis on the (free) courts on the sea front. Great place to holiday and would heartily recommend.

A lovely property with everything you would want for a comfortable stay.

The property is spotlessly clean, the beds are extremely comfortable and the living accommodation modern and comfortable. The location is great for the town centre a short walk away. We used public transport to get around to other resorts so no driving was required. Parking can be a slight problem in the evening but we took advantage of the garage which is across the road from the property and cost £25 per week arranged directly with Christine, the owner, through Sykes cottage. There are lots of places to eat in Teignmouth and our favourites were The Crab Shack, The Jolly Sailor and the L’Invidia Italian restaurant. Remember to book as these places are very popular. We do not hesitate to recommend Sunvale, a lovely stay in a lovely home.

My family and I had a lovely relaxing holiday in this beautiful house.

All the bedrooms and bathrooms are of a high standard and beautifully clean . The kitchen/breakfast room is great for all the family to get together, large light and has plenty of equipment for every type of cooking. The hall/sitting room is unusual and had just enough sofas for us all to sit together just . The garden was warm and secluded and great fun for the children to play in with the swimming pool fenced off. The pool was a little cold for me but the children loved it . The walk to the town is only about 15 minutes so you can carry your buckets and spades to the beach easily. Great position. The owners were very helpful with any information needed . We would recommend this property.

Lovely cosy cottage and location. Beds were very comfy and felt like home from home with all the facilities available. Even Netflix on the TV! Even though parking is not available, we didn't find it too much of a problem, if you cannot get a space in Salty Lane, we found some cheeky little spaces if you turn right out of the cottage, then right along the main road and the next right, there is a no parking sign, however there are no restrictions in place. Also there are 2 little benches overlooking the water and boats which is lovely to sit on an evening with a glass of wine. All in all very nice but I will say the cottage can do with a refresh of paint.

We loved the cottage and the location was perfect BUT the cottage suffers from a serious damp issue (highlighted by a previous review in June).

The kitchen cupboards smelt damp and musty and we had to move all the plates and dishes and wash them before use and then leave them out which cluttered the small kitchen. Also we came down every morning to find snail/slug trails all over the floor and worktops so again a clean up was required before we could start our day. Another issue we had was whilst we were out on the Tuesday the owner took it upon herself to go into the property without informing us first to put the rubbish bins out for the following day, we were going to do this as per instructions. Apart from the above issues we would have been happy to book this cottage again in the future.
