What our customers say about their holidays

    • Gary - Verified booking

Thimble Cottage is a wonderful little place for a getaway.

Easy to get to and the sat nav takes you right to the door. The whole property looks bright and fresh and the lovely big garden and outside areas are 100% secure for your dogs. Even the most accomplished 4 legged escape artist would have to go some to get out. We had a Great Dane and a Chocolate Labrador and they loved the freedom to be able to wander around and bask in the sun. There a nice welcome pack for both your dogs and yourselves and this was a nice touch. The kitchen has everything that you could wish for and it’s unlikely that you’ll find yourself wanting for any utensil, pan or crockery. Dishwasher and washing machine both have tablets and capsules to suit the length of the stay. It has a smart TV with more than enough channels to keep you entertained. WiFi is good and allows communication to the rest of the world. (The mobile phone signal in a great deal of the surrounding area is a bit patchy.) The property sits just off the road through the village, but you do not get disturbed by what little traffic comes through. It’s in a great location to explore the local area and 30-40 minutes gets you to an abundance of sights. Would thoroughly recommend Thimble Cottage for your next getaway. Parking for one large car and an EV charging point if required.

Overall it is a very nice cottage in a good location.

Having an enclosed garden was important to us as we have a dog so that was a bonus. The sitting room is a good size as is the main bedroom & the bed was very comfortable, however, the kitchen area is tiny, as is the bathroom. The second bedroom might be okay for kids but certainly not adults and the only wardrobe space is in the second bedroom, half of which is taken up with vacuum cleaner, brooms etc. We had one car and whilst two might fit on the drive, it would be tight & turning in or out would become a major issue - there is no alternative parking anywhere nearby! The state of cleanliness, unfortunately, was poor with dust and mould in many places. The kitchen surfaces had clearly not been attended to very thoroughly and we felt the need to wash utensils and plates prior to use. As regards location, it is a short walk along a pleasant path to Dorchester and a very short walk to the Sun Inn, which is excellent. It is right on a busy road as other reviewers have noted so road noise might be an issue for some. We didn't sit outside due to the weather and time of year (late October). Finally, I did try to contact the owner at the end of our stay but got no response, luckily it was a trivial matter. Others have commented on the lack of response so I would echo that.

We have never ever experienced what we went through over the last week.

The Cottage started to build up a strong smell of fermented poo untold flushing didn’t sort it had to open windows to vent . Called House Keeper no reply Owner no reply handy man turned up didn’t know nothing came back to cut grass . Had to take drastic measures poured 6 kettles of boiling water down toilet pan maybe do something can only wait .went Lidls bought 2 bottles of bleach and 2 no toilet hangers of blue flush after 50 flushes still smell through out cottage .thought about it how can I get this better so holiday not spoilt and keep family happy . Found where smell was coming from very dry cesspit methane coming back up waste pipe. Now lifted access panel to gully to find what I can only say fermented poo and paper going wrong way. Drastic measures now needed found a twisted up hose but got this up and running hosed the gully till running the right way I thought but got rid off that bit of waste I thought the following morning wake to real bad smells through cottage . Repeated with hose and heavy flushed toilet again and again poured down remaining of bleach must have done something by now . The only way I can get the message to you people is the photos I’ve taken you could not make this up if there’s anyway I can get them up on here I will

We chose Cowdea Cottage for the location and were not disappointed.

Not only is it in a beautiful part of the world but access to many other places is easy and close by. The cottage is spacious and well equipped, with good wifi and phone access. We found the furnishings a bit dated - not our style - but this was easy to overlook, sitting in the sunroom or the garden, looking across the meadow, hearing the birds. We did not find any walks in the immediate vicinity and the road was busy with locals and farm vehicles, so not easy to walk. But a short drive away in Bettiscombe you could park at the Community Centre and follow the trails. The owners were friendly and helpful and despite living in the adjoining farmhouse, kept their distance and gave us our privacy. A wonderful tranquil and restful spot.

The property looks cute from the outside.

When entering it smelt musty and felt damp . Not very welcoming it was very drab and outdated. The furniture was ok but too low for my disabled mother. So I got her a garden chair to sit on . The cooker wasn’t very clean. So we just had sandwiches. I did email the company to ask to be moved on Sunday but nobody got back to me . So disappointed with this property! We both was looking forward to our holiday because I have just finished cancer treatment. So we made the decision to go home, because mum has asthma and it was a damp cottage . And having mum sit on a garden chair was not acceptable mum was really upset
