What our customers say about their holidays

    • Jess - Verified booking

We loved our stay at Hartswood farm!

I was quite skeptic to book the place as there were not many reviews published and none recently, but the place was lovely! Exactly as pictured and described, and we were welcomed with fresh eggs, milk and cake which was very sweet and generous. The pool was a beautiful and relaxing addition, and the goats also deserve a shout out. The hosts were responsive to any queries and we tried 2 pubs in the area that were recommended in the handbook and they were lovely and both dog friendly. Our only criticisms and things to note is that the stairs up to the apartment can get quite tiring after a while, especially for our elderly dog and they can be quite slippery in the rain so probably not best for anyone with mobility issues, but they are well advertised in the property listing so this is merely just an observation! The TV is rather old and quite grainy, and the remote was terribly temperamental so an update would be beneficial but the dvd player and selection of movies available to borrow downstairs is a lovely touch. Sofas were also a bit hard and positioned a little strange for the TV so were quite uncomfortable. Bedding was also quite large for the quilts which was a little irritating as they were either tucked under the mattress or super long and hitting the floor. Finally, and this may just be me, but I did find the bedrooms rather eerie, especially the twin room with the large alcove space to the right side of the beds. Perhaps a lighter, brighter colour may improve the atmosphere of those two rooms. Overall though, our stay was lovely, relaxing, clean and dog friendly and we would happily come back. We’ve already recommended the place to our friends and family

The lodge was very comfortable and well equipped, although the patio furniture is now looking a little worn.

The main reason we booked this lodge over others is that the photos showed it to be in a nice, private and secluded spot next to a line of trees providing shade, only to find on arrival that it had been moved to a less-private and hilly spot. Not happy at all and Sykes have been extremely dismissive about this, saying that they sent me an email in April - 4 months prior to notify me of the move (it's now August). I did not receive any such email. Further to this, Sykes are still advertising the lodge as though it is in its former tree-lined location! They will no doubt come back and say the previous location easily became flooded, but in a hot August this was not an issue for us. Then there was a problem with the wifi connection to my laptop. The wifi itself worked well as we connected all 3 phones, and an ipad with no problem, but I needed the owner's permission to speak with the wifi company to set up my laptop, only for Sykes to reply that the owner had stated that no-one else had had this problem, basically saying 'Tough - get on with it!' Not what I was expecting to hear. As I could not connect in order to attend to some urgent work we had to come home a day early. Overall not happy and feeling let down.

Had a lovely stay at the Nail Shed celebrating our wedding anniversary.

We were impressed with the facilities. The underfloor heating throughout was lovely. The kitchen was well stocked and the cottage is beautifully furnished. The owners were welcoming and we enjoyed our welcome drinks in the Anvil Inn adjacent to the property. We ate there on both nights of our stay and have to say the fillet steaks were delicious and cooked to perfection. The pub has a cosy feel to it with wood burning stoves in each room. We travelled with our dog and the owner was helpful in suggesting local walks. We visited Cayton Bay which was a beautiful unspoilt stretch of sand for him to run around on. If I was to provide any constructive criticism it would be that the hanging area in the wardrobes could do with being a little higher and I also think the listing could be expanded to include things like hairdryer, tea, coffee provided as these were things I packed unnecessarily as I couldn’t be sure from the listing. I also think as it’s a pet friendly cottage, the provision of dog bowls for food and water might be welcome (I forgot to pack these but have found them provided previously!). Very minor niggles but all in all a wonderful stay.

Finch 59 is a lovely lodge with quality fixtures & fittings.

It is on a nice pitch over looking an attractive central grassed area. This lodge was previously on pitch 15 across the road next to the trees & is now on a raised pitch 59 - hopefully this resolves other guests confusion. There isn't a number on the lodge but can be easily found by following the numbers on adjacent lodges plus its grey not white. Finch 59 is on your right. Finch 15 is on the left. During our stay I reported a few maintenence issue that were not detrimental to our stay but if not reported the lodge will deteriate. 1. Washing machine comes on but does not fill with water assume door not activating machine due to being integrated. 2. Living room door, twin bedroom door & patio door need adjusting. 3. Key box difficult to close & catches your fingers. 4. Some gutters leaking. Flooding - Pitch 15 & surrounding lodges under water due to severe weather - so yes it does flood in this area. All issues reported to Sykes via telephone & Whatsapps. However this is not a complaint as the lodge is lovely & the park has many facilities. Would stay again in the future.

Parking literally just outside the enclosed back patio perfect for our furboy met by Julia owner who went through need to know basics welcome gift basket of tea coffee milk and biscuits and fresh flowers a very nice touch. Upstairs 2 very large bedrooms and bathroom also separate toilet downstairs which was perfect for us oldies. Beds are super comfy best I’ve slept on beautiful decor throughout with gorgeous soft furnishings very cozy. Luxurious m&s towels sheets and top quality pots pans cutlery lots of books games and Netflix the area is perfect for touring Scarborough Whitby Pickering and beautiful villages May cottage is just stunningly beautiful credit to Julia and Michael if we had one comment it would be the settees are a little low down for us oldies but don’t take that away from everything else and thank you so much for letting us stay in your fabulous cottage we will definitely return. Booking through Sykes always a pleasure.
