We recently stayed at the cottage at the end of September for a week.

It was the perfect retreat for me, my husband and our small dog. The cottage was very well equipped and has everything you need for a self catering stay. The owners left wine, milk, crisps & biscuits for our arrival which I thought was a really nice touch and very appreciated. There was a limited amount of wood for the wood burner but after a text to the owners, a box of wood was delivered straight away. The owners live on the property and are always just a phone call away if you need anything. The cottage was very clean and there is also cleaning products & equipment as well as a washing machine which was handy as we were there for a week. The cottage is situated perfectly if you are wishing to visit tourist attractions of the Peak District. Everything is within a short distance from the cottage. There are supermarkets 10-15 minutes away. Good local pubs include The Tickled Trout in Barlow and the Royal Oak at Millthorpe. The area is perfect for walks. The cottage has amazing views over the countryside. The cottage sits on the road and at times the traffic came past at high speeds. Not a negative comment towards the cottage as this is obviously out of the owners hands but just something to keep in mind if you are taking small children or pets. There is parking on the grass next to the cottage for one vehicle which was perfect for us and made loading / unloading a lot easier! The cottage sleeps four but there was only two of us plus our dog so I can’t comment on how suitable it would be for four people, but for us it was ideal. The only very small negative I had was the sofas are a tad uncomfortable to sit on for any length of time. It wasn’t a huge issue for us for the most part as we were out for most of the days exploring however we had one rainy day where we decided to stay in. Overall the cottage was fantastic and in a great location. I would highly recommend to anyone wishing to visit the Peaks! We will definitely be back.

The listing states that the beds in the second bedroom can be zipped together to become a super king size bed and that such request needs to be made at least 48 hours in advance.

We made the request on the Monday before our Friday arrival (4 days notice) to receive a response from the owner as follows: “Unfortunately the cottage has already been done and is ready for you. But you could just push the two single beds together.” We were certainly rather unhappy with such a response and asked again for the beds to be zipped up as just pushing them together would not be comfortable - and this time, the owner responded to say that this would be done. The original response obviously did not make us feel welcome before our arrival. Anyone looking at booking this cottage should note that it sits on a rather noisy road - it’s not a very busy road but vehicles tend to pass at high speed, especially in the middle of the night and this unfortunately affected our sleep- and to make matters worse, the cottage also faces another house in close proximity and the woman living in it was coughing every single night all through the nights, which kept us awake! We would have loved to close the windows due to all the noise (vehicles and coughing) but the weather was far too hot to allow it, so we did not have a comfortable stay. Also, although a washing machine is provided, it is only 1,000 spin and therefore, the clothes need to be hung to dry BUT there is absolutely nowhere to do this as there is no garden and no facility is provided for this. Lastly, we note that other guests have mentioned this as well, which the owners have taken no notice of - it is utterly incredulous to provide the smallest tv imaginable for guests! Don’t think we have stayed in any holiday cottage that has provided such a measly sized tv for guests - it was just not worth switching it on!

We had a lovely stay fantastic view from the kitchen and court yard.

We did note the water when running in kitchen was I believe to have an air lock as it bumbled throughout the Barn when water used, bedrooms very clean as well as the beds, the first bedroom was very tight for space and would be better to have a single bed. The en suite toilet seat was loose, bathroom could do with de- moulding around shower door and tiles on bath. There were a lot of cobweb webs which have been there a long while in dining area toward kitchen on beam and on stair well window I do have photos if required, Candles look alike need to have new batteries and on outside fairy lights. The Barn information sheet should be left in the Barn as not many people will print off a hard copy ( I left mine for the next group). The most noticeable problem was the access to the Barn I appreciate this is the nature of the build but instead of building a new patio area I feel a new parking area closer to the office (old diary) would be more practicable as it is a long steep hill back and forth with luggage, you are defiantly fit after the stay!! While a few highlighted mentions I would go back and thank you for the welcome pack it was most appreciated and a lovely gesture.

As previously described by another guest, we were fully aware that the pub opposite received early deliveries and we shouldn't expect to sleep in.

.. Not really an issue for us, as we're early risers. This is outside of the operators control, but perhaps is worth noting for some. The property is lovely and comfortable, and it's great to have off road parking. The beds are firm, but we found them comfortable and we had a great nights sleep . Kitchen pretty much has everything you need, however I would recommend that more crockery is provided, i.e. dining plates and even tea plates, although I appreciate they're not standard these days, but a biscuit really does look lost on those big plates. It's clear from the feedback made already that they take the comments seriously and they are proactive to remedy issues raised, apologies, I didn't have time to fill in the visitors book! Literally pub on your door step and around the corner a lovely cafe with fresh made pies and cakes and a great breakfast too, wished we'd discovered it earlier in our stay. Good information pack available, however I would suggest a few tweaks and to the advertising descriptions, happy to expand on this if the owner/operator wants to get in touch direct.

      Absolutely fantastic place to stay.

Cottage had everything you could possibly need. The cottage was spotless with a fully equipped kitchen that had everything from a teaspoon to a first aid kit. The lounge had really good quality furniture that was very comfortable, really strong Wi-Fi (which you will need as internet service isn’t the best in the area ) and a smart tv on the wall. There is a separate room that houses the asking machine under the stairs. We only used the double bed as there was only 2 of us. OMG it was so comfortable. Good quality furniture and bedding makes all the difference. The bathroom had a walk in shower that had plenty of constant hot water. The heated towel rail warmed the room up lovely. The window blinds throughout the house were really thick so blocked out the light for a good nights sleep. The only thing I would maybe suggest would be a blind on the front door to block out the light from the pub across the road. This is only for spoilt dogs like ours that are used to sleeping in the dark
