    • Jeff - Verified booking

The access to the cottage was down a rough road followed by an unbelievably rough lane.

We made sure we were home before dark as I would not have taken my car along it in the dark. Had I been aware of this access I would certainly not have booked this cottage. It was very remote and had few local amenities. Although the facilities on the whole were good and the overall cleanliness was of a high standard the sofa in the living area was well past it's sell by date and very uncomfortable. The outside seating needs replaced as it would not have enticed you to relax outdoors. The Owners were unfriendly, unhelpful, barely spoke to us on arrival and ignored us for the rest of our stay. This is the first time after numerous stays in cottages that we have had any complaint about the owners. Would we return to The Byre ....NO. Would we recommend anyone to book The Byre ...Only if they were driving a four by four and staying for only a couple of nights.

Beautiful barn with yoga studio downstairs .

Magnificent country views. Log wood burner , reclining settees and large dining table so we could all sit together at mealtimes . Uncluttered property with lots of good basics like towels , hairdryers , washing up liquid, coffee etc. There are 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms with options for a bath or walk in shower . The beds were especially comfortable ( and large) and outside there is a nice seating area that catches the sun. Well placed for country walks and a couple of nice country pubs . Just a short drive to Shrewsbury. We had a really wonderful time with great communication from the owner Iona who has clearly put a lot o.f thought into the conversion of this barn .. Perfect for large families or groups of friends wanting a relaxing getaway . Table tennis and games available for the kids . Thoroughly recommend and hope to return .

My experience of the area may be a little different from others as I was there to recuperate after surgery.

However, the cottage was very well equipped, clean, quiet and with lovely views. It was easily accessible for me, and the time I spent in the cottage was absolutely what I needed. Information was left that enabled me to do what was required and to use everything the cottage had. The cottage had towels, tea towels, all the kitchen equipment I needed; the bed was comfy and the place was warm enough. It was very cosy, so quiet and such a lovely place. Had I been able to venture out more, I could see so many places accessible that seemed lovely. As it was, I did go as far as the forest on foot, and I saw this had views over to Wales, Snowdonia and Cheshire and Liverpool - it was lovely. In the area of the village and forest, I saw no more than a few people!

Acorn Cottage is situated in a beautiful village Petton.

The surroundings are so tranquil for a restful and quiet break. The cottage is well equipped with all the mod cons and is squeaky clean. The kitchen has all the amenities along with a dishwasher and washing machine which made our stay very comfortable. The bedrooms are spacious and so are the bathrooms. Acorn Cottage has everything we could ask for. Barbara and Robert gave us a very warm welcome to Acorn Cottage. They are extremely friendly and provided us with lots of information about sightseeing as well as gourmet pubs to get good food. The church in Petton is gorgeous and definitely worth a visit. The chicken and ducks that Robert keeps are an absolute delight. To sum up Acorn cottage is a wonderful cottage and the hosts are amazing.

Property was immaculate with welcome gifts of bubbles and cake.

The interior had obviously been professionally interior designed and exuded a very warm and cosy feel. The property is finished to a very high standard, furnishings, bedding etc are top spec. The top floor bedroom is quite something, so much so that we didn't sleep in it, for fear of spoiling it's magnificence. Maybe next time? As we will rebook. I should point out that this property is within walking distance of a town I would happily relocate to! Happy friendly locals and excellent shops and restaurants. We took our small dog - which in itself is great to see properties of this standard accepting our best friends. To recap, a great place to decompress, luxurious, quiet, easy to find and parking (almost) outside the door.
