The markets of Oswestry are award-winning. Speciality markets take place throughout the year and the monthly Artisan Market is very popular. On a stroll through town, you’ll also find a great selection of independent shops. History buffs should take in the church, castle or one of the museums. A peaceful town, but with plenty to see and do, Oswestry is a relaxing place to enjoy a holiday.

"This gorgeous farmhouse was the perfect hideaway for a weekend spent celebrating a birthday with family. We especially loved the welcoming kitchen with everything thought of right down to the plastic bowls for the little ones and the baby cham glasses for adults – perfect for our celebratory champagne! Sarah, the caretaker had left a lovely selection of jams along with local welsh cakes and fruit cakes – simply scrummy with a cuppa tea! If you can drag yourself away from the cosiness of the open log fire and comfy couches, or if you’re just a little desperate for some phone signal, then head to nearby Lake Vyrnwy which was very pretty. I would also recommend The Eagles Inn pub, a little further away but right next to Lake Bala, for a dog-friendly pub with the most welcoming and hospitable staff. Try the delicious locally bred homemade steak and ale pie but be aware – huge portions!"

"We absolutely loved going to The Butler's Quarters as our holiday. It had all essentials, and even though it was out in the middle of no-where necessities were close by (supermarket). Upon arrival we thought we had got the wrong place, as it was tremendous in size and so quiet. Everything was explained/shown to us in a guided tour when we first got there, and a folder was provided with welcomes, local information and a bit of history about the property. It was almost like home from home, you felt very welcome. We could not believe our luck, and remained saying so throughout the holiday. When the last day arrived we were sad to be leaving as we had got so accustomed to the friendliness. We loved our whole holiday and cannot wait to return next year!"

"Thank you Oliver’s Travels for such a wonderful find! We have had the best time ever! We hired the farmhouse for my dad's 80th birthday surprise. What an amazing place! Not only for the most exquisite views of the roaring hills of Wales, but for the most well equipped house with every amenity you could wish for. From the beautiful fresh bedding and sumptuous towels to the many board games for everyone's entertainment, I could go on and on! Having no phone coverage or wifi was a blessing as we were all able to enjoy our own company with no distractions. Playing the piano and games were a real treat! I would highly recommend a stay here at this beautiful farmhouse and give a rating of five for the wonderful service at Oliver's Travels."

"We really enjoyed our stay here. The cabin has all you need. Its not very big, but has lovely cotton sheets, its very clean and basics (tea, coffee, sugar and loo roll!), washing-up liquid etc., towels and tea towels are all provided. Great parking. The owners are friendly and Mike is very helpful (I'm sure Val is too but we only met her once). The location is in a very peaceful valley, little traffic (none by the cabin) and spectacular views. The main reason to stay here though is the view from the cabin. Right by the river, we spent hours watching the cows, the sheep and the antics of the lambs and we saw so many birds we had not seen before. (Mike and Val provide a book for identification)."

"Upon arrival we were greeted by Mike & Val who were very friendly, Mike showed us around the property and explained all it's well fitted out equipment. The cottage was very cosy and we felt very comfortable, especially with the fantastic view. Mike & Val couldn’t have been more helpful, top marks. The area and views are fantastic with very friendly locals, the two pubs, that really are two minutes walk were also very friendly with good food and beer. Drives to Bala through the Tanat Valley were magnificent, must get an in car camera to capture it. We will definitely be returning to this lovely spot again, but don’t ell every one we want to keep it secret. Great place and lovely owners."
