Guests say

The Byre is a cosy, well-equipped cottage in a peaceful rural setting, ideal for exploring Shropshire. Guests consistently praise its cleanliness, comfort, and tranquil atmosphere, with many appreciating the thoughtful touches and friendly farm dogs. The location offers easy access to local attractions, though the approach road is bumpy and may not suit all vehicles. While most found the owners helpful and unobtrusive, a few mentioned limited interaction. Overall, The Byre provides a relaxing countryside retreat with excellent amenities, making it a popular choice for couples seeking a quiet getaway.

Cleanliness is frequently highlighted as a strong point, with many guests describing the cottage as very clean, tidy, and well-presented. Only rare minor issues, such as cracked plates or some weeding needed, were mentioned.

The rural location is widely appreciated for its tranquillity and proximity to attractions, walks, and market towns. However, the access road is often described as rough or potholed, which some guests found challenging.

Most guests found the cottage comfortable, warm, and cosy, with good beds and heating. A few noted the living area and bedroom as small or the sofa as uncomfortable, but these were exceptions.

The cottage is praised for being well-equipped, with guests noting the availability of books, games, kitchen essentials, and good heating. Some minor maintenance issues were mentioned, such as worn utensils or low shower pressure, but these did not detract significantly from the overall experience.

Guests often mention thoughtful touches such as tea, coffee, milk, games, books, and even Christmas decorations. While these gestures are appreciated, please note that such gifts or extras are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

A charming, 18th century detached barn conversion, featuring a wealth of oak beams, trusses and wall timbers. The property has a light and airy yet cosy atmosphere, offering all modern facilities. Perfect for a romantic break for two.

The small village of Billingsley is surrounded by beautiful Shropshire countryside and is just seven miles from Bridgnorth. In addition to lots of walking and cycling facilities, the region boasts a wealth of country parks, great houses, museums and picturesque villages. Visitors can enjoy a trip to the nearby town of Bridgnorth - winner of ‘Britain in Bloom' - which is composed of the High Town and the Low Town connected by winding streets and flights of steps. The town's Saturday street market provides an excellent chance to explore the impressive castle ruins or to take a ride on the funicular railway. We had everything we needed, we found out beforehand the duvet & pillows were down, so we took our own (wife has allergies to feathers). It was nice & quiet, only the passing, cow, dog, cat, rabbit disturbed the tranquility oh & the farmer in his little 4x4 but if you don't want farm action don't stay on a farm, it really is that simple. The only negative point was ventilation, there are 3 doors opening onto the courtyard, but only a small window in the lounge. The rooms got hot without the doors being opened & although I'm 100% sure we would be safe it didn't feel right sleeping with the bedroom door opening onto a courtyard, which meant overnight it was quite stuffy in there. But a great place to step off to go exploring the surrounding area, great breakfast at the Bewdley Museum, Bridgenorth, Acton Victorian farm, but best to visit that one when it's open as we got our days wrong. Then there West Midland Safari Park, Severn Valley Railway, the engine shed is free to visit. All in all a wonderful cottage to visit & stay, would we go back, absolutely.

It is situated on a working farm and is also home to a racing stable. As such the approach to it is somewhat bumpy. Perfectly achievable in a standard car but I would hesitate to take a low slung roadster down there. It is in a good area for visiting several NT properties, the Severn Valley Railway and Ironbridge as well as some pretty market towns. There are some lovely walks in the area as well. It's a few miles to the nearest shops so make sure you don't forget anything. The Ship at Highley is in a lovely setting on the side of the river and the food was very nice.

The Byre was comfortable, very clean and well equipped. Everything needed was provided, and everything provided worked. Although located on a working farm you wouldn't know it, as it is a very quiet and rural location. The real question is, would we stay at The Byre again if in the area ? Definitely.
