What our customers say about their holidays

    • George - Verified booking

In general I felt that the property was very well equipped and I enjoyed my stay here.

Pros: - Nice little detached property, very quiet at night and peaceful, perfect for someone on their own or a couple. - Bedding and bed were fantastic and super comfortable, I slept like a log for my entire stay. - Lovely treats etc. when arriving - wine, snacks etc. were all very welcome! - Hot tub was great, very warm, private and great after a day out of walking. - Location is really good and close to Shrewsbury as well as lots of good walks in the Shropshire Hills. - House is very eco friendly and lots of thought has been given to making the property kind to the environment. - Owners were friendly, welcoming and easy to contact if there were any issues during the stay. - Easily accessible walks directly from the property. - Good takeaway and food options nearby. Lea Cross Tandoori (5m drive) and Little Efes at Minsterley (15m) were both excellent. Cons: - Sofas smelt a little damp - not a huge issue at all, probably a bit of Febreze would sort them out right away. - Parking felt a bit stretched - owners have 2-3 cars on the same drive which made turning around quite tight for a longer car, a small hatch would be easy but I struggled in a saloon. I think the owners said in a previous review they are creating more parking which would resolve the issue.

Another memorable stay at Bank House Barn.

Cosy, warm and very comfortable, we made good use of the wood burner and hot tub in the evenings. Chris and Sonya made us welcome and made sure we had everything we could possibly need. The weather was extremely kind to us during our stay so we had days out visiting Shrewsbury, wandering the picturesque streets and visiting the outdoor Market. A great place to eat is CSONS on Milk Street, the food was delicious and the young people who work there were lovely. We enjoyed visiting Tipples just long the road from Bank House Barn. A small business selling locally made spirits, wines, beers etc, plus local cheeses and all manor of delicious treats to tempt everyone who visits. Every morning we would walk along the river bank with the two dogs who live at Bank House. But first we took great delight in giving the four friendly teddy bear sheep a Rich Tea biscuit. Another fabulous stay at Bank House Barn, looking forward to the next time. I highly recommend staying at Bank House Barn, it's a wonderful place. Thank you, Chris and Sonja xx

Chris and Sonia were great, very friendly and helpful.

The property was clean and comfortable, there were just a few minor ‘nice touches’ that were missing: - complimentary toiletries in the bathroom - the price we paid was comparable with a boutique hotel where toiletries would have been provided. That said I appreciate that Covid guidelines may have prevented the provision of toiletries and luckily we brought our own anyway. So just an observation rather than a complaint. - The shower was very chintzy but not overly practical for ladies with long hair that does not need to be washed every day. It was difficult to shower effectively without hair getting wet. A separate shower wand which could be used instead of the overhead shower would be useful. Failing that, the provision of disposable shower caps would be a nice touch. Again just an idea, I managed for the few days I was there. -The bathroom bin did not have a bag/liner in it which I found strange and not overly hygienic so I put my own in.

Bank House Barn was a good place to stay for touring the local area.

We did lots of walks including the Stiperstones Circular which is not to be missed and had a great day out on the Severn Valley Railway Bridgnorth, which we highly recommend! We got the Freedom tickets and hopped on and off, discovering some lovely towns and villages along the Severn. The local pub was unfortunately not a great place to eat but we did find a lovely authentic Italian restaurant, La Laterna in the Vestry in Shrewsbury which we would highly recommend and a lovely old country pub called the Stable Inn near Minsterley which serves delicious home made food from 5pm. As for Bank House Barn we were a little disappointed. It felt unloved and tired round the edges with a lack of attention to detail. The court yard felt a bit neglected which was a shame as it could be such an asset to the property. We could only assume Bank House Barn is a work in progress. The owners gave us fresh eggs from their chicken. This was a lovely touch.

      A really enjoyable stay.

The property was excellent. It had everything you’d need. The welcome from Chris and Sonya was very helpful with the basket of fresh milk, eggs and chocolate treats much appreciated. Visited lots of beautiful places in the Shropshire Hills and surrounding area, including Clun Forest, Bishop’s Castle, Ludlow, The Clee Hills, Bridgnorth, Much Wenlock, Church Stretton, Carding Mill Valley and Stiperstones. Less than 15 minutes from Shrewsbury, I found lots of nice places to eat within a short drive. I’d recommend The Walrus and Osteria restaurants in Shrewsbury centre, and The Haughmond in Upton Magna. After a day exploring, the hot tub, situated in a private courtyard, was an amazing evening treat. The owner’s dogs are very friendly. Don’t forget to explore the grounds and go feed the Teddy Bear Sheep their favourite Rich Tea biscuits. I’d highly recommend a stay at Bank House Barn.
