First let me say we had no problems with the cottage.
Dawn, the caretaker, had done a great job getting it clean and welcoming for our arrival and we were very happy with the facilities in the property. We had great weather and enjoyed sitting and eating in the south facing courtyard. The property was very remote (as described) and the vast majority of the time we could hear and enjoy the silence and beautiful night skies. However, potential renters should be aware just how many people, horses and bikers use the bridleway right in front of the cottage from early in the morning to early in the evening so you really need to keep the gates shut to prevent random dogs and cows joining you in the courtyard! The big (big!) issue was the drive into to the property. We knew it was a track, and that was not a problem in principle as we have a 4 wheel drive, but I would like to warn anyone planning to book the cottage that it it took on average about 15-20 minutes to drive the 2 miles because the road was just so so (so) full of potholes. Even something as simple as getting rid of rubbish bags was a challenge as the bins were at the far end of the drive and we were asked not to leave rubbish bags outside the property overnight. This was particularly a pain when we were clearing up before going home as we either had to pack up the car then find room for 3 bags of rubbish or make a separate trip down the drive (40 mins round trip) before we left just to drop off the rubbish. One of my sons and his family actually decided not to join us for a long weekend during our fortnight we were concerned whether their car would navigate the drive. Such a shame as otherwise it would be a nice little bolthole for a quiet walking break.

The area is not particularly good for dog walkers who are looking for: a.
Long country walks, as the styles are not dog friendly and in some cases were blocked or locked by farmers. b. a local field to let their dog off for ball throwing etc. The only community field in the vicinity calls for dogs to be kept on a lead. If you want to use the restaurant facility for the Farthings Hotel immediately adjacent, then you really need to book. Not because the place is that popular and there will be a lack of room; but because the owner guests stressed out if everything is not planned and lined up to his liking (told us he'd serve us in about half an hour if we wanted to come back, but made us feel most unwelcome - so we voted with our feet). The fish and chip wagon comes along on a Wednesday, but not when they're on holiday. Not sure how you get to know though, as there's nothing mentioned on their website so we were unfortunately wandering the village looking for them and only to be disappointed. Quist Cottage itself is becoming a little tired now and probably due a good spruce up, but to be fair it's got a lovely garden and is exceptionally well equipped. Generally, this is a lovely location and ideal if you're looking for peace and quiet, but still within a short drive to shops and restaurants.

We had such a wonderful holiday and Nicky was really lovely and friendly.
We all love animals and they were everywhere. We often saw horses and cows wandering down the road. My children found this hilarious as we donât see that at home. The cottage was clean and cosy and when we arrived, there was milk in the fridge, a bottle of wine and a delicious banana loaf waiting for us. The beds were incredibly comfortable and we all slept very well. My son loves to look at stars and Iâve never seen so many as we saw here! It was amazing. We got to meet the racehorses, lots of dogs, we swam in the pool and we enjoyed many pub meals. The Royal Oak in Withypool were great and every meal we had was delicious. Everyone we met was friendly and we had a very relaxing stay. None of us wanted to leave. This is a really lovely place to stay. Thank you for having us.

Great Bradley cottage is in a very quiet location.
Itâs ideal if you want to get away from it all and are looking for lots of peach and quiet. Nicky the hosts was very friendly and welcoming and left us fresh farm shop milk, cakes, wine and treats and a ball for our dog. The Cottage was very comfortable and the use of the swimming pool was an added bonus. The only negative thing about the property, that did really did let it down is that it really could do with a good clean. I spent the first day cleaning the kitchen microwave, oven, fridge, sink and basin. I wiped down the sofas, the mat hadnât been hovered and where dirty. I also had to clean the bathroom as underside of the toilet seat was stained yellow and the shower cubicle had not been cleaned. This is something you shouldnât have to do when you arrive on holiday.

We all really enjoyed our stay at the cottage, both humans and dogs.
The cottage is in a great location for exploring Exmoor. There are wonderful walks from the cottage both down to the river Barle and up to the moor. The coast and many interesting villages and towns don't take long to reach by car. There is loads of wildlife to see, red and roe deer, hares, foxes and many kinds of birds. There are great places to eat and drink close by. The cottage itself is cosy and although the garden isn't enclosed the dogs could safely explore with us keeping an eye on them. An added bonus was use of the large heated indoor swimming pool. After a day out exploring it was great to have a relaxing swim whilst looking out over the valley to the moors on the hills. We are looking forward to coming back in the future.
