What our customers say about their holidays

    • David - Verified booking

Wonderful, the cottage is superb, quiet, comfy and incredibly well equipped ( especially in the kitchen) even has fibre WI-FI and a smart TV!

The most dog friendly environment. We went to explore and advise you get out and about - you will be incredibly rewarded, even out of the door. Walks we did and recommend ( do some research) Penbont to Kier Mill river walk, Tynron ( park in village hall car park) to Tynron Doon ( Iron Age settlement) well worth the slog- its beautiful. Rockcliffe on the Solway coast - beautiful coastal walk and drive to Steamboat inn at Carsethorne for a yummy lunch, lovely friendly pub with a stunning local real ale! Our favourite though was a drive through the Delveen Pass to the Gray Mares tail and waterfalls ( spectacular) then drive north about 1/2 way along St Mary’s reservoir and take the road to Tweedsmuir along Meggit and Talla reservoirs - about 18 miles of complete beauty and we passed 1 car and a cyclist! There is a walk just at the bottom of the hill with a board and a gate- park up and take the path up and view the river and scenic waterfalls- STUNNING, you will not want to stop going on! then drive on to lovely Moffat , we visited the distillery and bought a few bottles. On top of that you have Drumlanrig castle and it’s beautiful walks ( blue is best) on your doorstep. The hosts Pauline and Derek are lovely, unobtrusive and helpful when and if needed. We ( and the 2 Labradors) had an epic time.

      Lovely cottage.

You’re made to feel welcome as soon as you arrive. Fresh eggs from the farm were delicious. The kitchen is really equipped for cooking a meal. The garden was perfect for our two boxers dogs. There was sheep and lamb in the field right next to us so we got to watch the lambs playing around most mornings. The beds were comfortable and the whole cottage was clean/spotless. We all felt right at home. The weather wasn’t the best but we made the most of it and hopefully can return in the summer. If not for the rain I would have been in the garden most of the time. We went to the Thornhill inn for dinner one night which was great pub grub food. Not far from the cottage only about 15/20 mins. We also drove to Sandyhills beach one day with was about an hour away. But worth the drive even if it did rain. The beach was lovely and the dogs had a blast. We went for dinner to the birchtree hotel when we left sandyhills and the meal was amazing. Must visit if your heading down there. We will defo visit again soon. Thanks to Pauline and Derek for being amazing hosts. Kelly Kev Charley & The Girls Tilly Billie xx

Absolutely loved our stay at Larch Cottage .

The cottage was so warm and cosy. We actually switched off all of the radiators as was warm enough without heating on. Loved the walk in shower and underfloor heating downstairs. 2 lovely big comfy sofas in living room, one each. The views from all of the windows are priceless, stunning colours on the trees in autumn. Open the velux and you can hear all of the birds and at night you can hear the hoot of owls all around . We took our little dog and she loved it, so many walks on the doorstep. Walked into Aberfeldy town, walked the riverside, along to Castle Menzies to name a few. Drove to Kenmore, along Loch Tummel and the scenery is spectacular & breathtaking, especially in Autumn. There are walks for all abilities, gentle to full on hiking into the hills and forests. We brought all of our own food as the cottage is well equipped for cooking, but there are supermarkets in Aberfeldy if needed. It was just such a tonic, the cottage, the scenery, I didn't want to go home.

Good location for exploring the local area from with lots of walks that didn't require getting in the car first.

Good communication from the hosts around check in process. Disappointed with the cleanliness, lots of cobwebs throughout the property (some which had large families of spiders living in them) and dishes required to be washed prior to use. We understood the property was dog friendly prior to booking and brought our own dog with us but didn't expect to find as much dog hair everywhere upon check in. The living area clearly hadn't been hoovered, we found pieces of copper metal on the floor which were a danger to our dog. The bed linen was clean and comfortable. However I would recommend future guests bring their own towels as the ones provided were very small and had seen better days. The bathroom was surface clean but again would benefit from a scrub.Feel the property overall is in need of a deeper clean between guests in order to make a stay here more enjoyable.

A beautifully maintained and spotless cottage.

From the bowl of free range eggs to the jar of delicious chocolate cakes and biscuits to the basket of dog toys in the cupboard, not a single thought had been forgotten to make us feel truly welcome. The hosts, Pauline and Derek were so friendly, even to Derek kindly coming to find us in the local village when we had got ourselves well and truly lost in deepest, darkest Dumfries-shire and leading us right to the cottage. The bedrooms were spacious and the beds/pillows very comfortable. Our two large Golden Retrievers slept with us on their vet bed in the twin bedroom and there was stacks of room. The dogs loved the totally secure garden. I would gladly give more than 5 stars if I could! We've rented quite a few cottages over the years and this was undoubtedly the best of the bunch. We'll be back!
